Title: USS Rivendell Mission(s)
Post by: on January 17, 2006, 09:32:57 PM
According to how its gone so far they are seperate from the empire. They want to get what the Kazon want to get and have assisted seperate. I didn't come up with the storyline, and don't know whats going to happen from now forward. I think only Ransom and Garhart know that.

I agree.  We need to also make it something that just can't have an admiral come in and wosh its over as well.
Something for Captain Taurik and Crew to really sink there teeth into and have to shovel themselves out of.

Thats one of my major goals to keep the station and the Rivendell active.

It hasn't really as far as I know.  If it has I am in the Dark as well.  So lets just plan the Kaz/Rom mission in a new topic (I will build it) and leave this topic for all of us to throw out ideas for future missions.  After all the federation is a democracy.

Is there a mission planned for the Rivendell following its mission that has it at Avalon?

It is an offshoot of the Romulan Empire.  They are determined to destroy the federation and have sided with of all people the Kazon.

It would be nice to help out with writing a mission storyline. I don't know if you two are going to restrict it to two in the future or not. Some of the basics are getting stale for missions. Romulans, Kazon, Borg. Expansion has so much interesting original material, like the Na'Jigat, its good stuff. I've done missions by looking in the Databases and Expansion Map.
Then another technique while we're talking, not following a straight line of storyline. Set up a start, certain little points that need to not change, and a general ending. Let people get a bit creative and become the lines that connect those dots. This recent mission with the Rivendell was pretty straight through, we hadn't even really finished on the station and it was just ended with a snap of the fingers.

I cannot say much for station missions myself, experience wise in creating them. This is the first time I've been on a 100% active station. I think I've said it before, but I think its on the top of the list of benefits from this downsizing.

In planning, is that for the mission when the Rivendell returns from Avalon, as in the Kaz/Rom situation? Or what comes after it. Dunno how far the Kaz/Rom has been planned.

Destroying the repair area, or construction one of the Rom/Kazon deal. Probally nothing after that though.

Sounds like the Romulan Coalition. Perhaps they can be the ones allied with the Kazon?

Tom, I like the idea of open missions that make the crew get out of there starfleet shells.  I think we should all assist in planning missions in this forum.  For instance, the next one for the Rivendell is the attack of the Kazon / Romulan base.  We should all have a say at it.

The only ones I really don't want everyone to have a say in are the ones with the station cause almost everyone in the stations senior staff is an admiral and can see into this forum.  Thus taking the fun out of it.

So I beleive for the Rivendell there should be 2 goals.
1.  To give people the fun enviroment they want to come back and post daily
2.  Make it more open ended by giving all of us the opertunity to build the storylines.

Amen,  Now that we know the Modus Operandi shall we get to some mission idea planning.
The only think I don't want to see is the mission end by the snap of the finger.

This isn't the Romulan Empire, is it? Because the Romulans are quickly becoming Federation allies.

I was seeking from Ransom imput on missions i had in mind. Something more removed from the rised number of fleetwide stories. The Ni'gat (sp) has become more of a cliche, but nice and original Maybe a more personal mission for the ship.

Personally, I like the tough missions. It helps shatter the "invincible Starfleet" illusion.

Anyway, those open missions you refer to are good for "posting morale". People keep coming back to post when they know it will make a difference. A fully predefined mission is usually more realistic, but less fun for the whole.

For me i'm mainly making a pile of new and fun missions. Our general 'process' when we did them at Nova was to have some major points or things that have to happen and then let the crew come in and build and improvise. In other words keep it as someone said earlier, more open ended but not all over the place. I myself am not a fan of 100 % scripted missions or roleplay. if it go's in a direction opposite of first intended its fine, let the crew have more control than those creating the mission is what i'm getting to.
