"I am sure they still have the test. I have never taken it myself, spent the two years at the academy as you know, but unlike you, I dropped out, as you also know".

He gave a small laugh.

"I put my time in at the Mallory Enterprises, on a ship just like this. Captain Jonathan Dane, who you wouldn't know, was the commanding officer of the U.S.S. Hurricane. Fine ship itself, not as good as the Paladin though. Not to me, at least. The time from then leading to my direct captaincy is a long story, and there's no use becoming nostalgic".

Lurado looked around the bridge again as the AI was activated. Things were starting great.
He extended his hand as the medical chief came to them.
"Welcome to the Iroquois Lieutenant Travis. I think you will find it easy to locate sickbay, it is one of a size that you should find managable. You may want to start with gathering crew medical records, if they have none, you can give them one".
Having given the doctor something to work on, he resumed his  conversation with the Admiral.
"Is an assignment for us been decided? I have plenty of patience if not, as you said it has been a long while. I am content to sit idle for a spell to soak it all in".

"We do not have the luxury of hiding. Nor are we in any condition to go into combat against more ships. What we need is another way to stop those ships. Get estimated times for our distance from SS Avalon, and the distance of the Heraan ships behind us. When you have done that, come to the conference area".

Lurado went to his side console, and opened the ship wide comm line.
=A=All senior staff, this is Captain Lurado. Report to the conference room on deck two=A=

He nodded to Swift as he began walking to the lift.
"You may join us Ensign, we will need the extra tactical insight".

"That sounds like a good precaution. Leave it offline, and make sure the safe cannons are fully functioning".

Lurado began to work with his own console at the side of his chair, he finished gathering projections the computer assisted in generating, and tapped his comm badge.

"Thank you. I believe this is the first time I have served with a ship with an AI such as yourself. Do you function simular to an android? Or perhaps I am seperating the two to much, and AI and Android is one in the same?".

"We take what Ensign Swift's team has gathered, and destroy the cargo ships. Keep an eye on those incoming ships Lieutenant Nonir. Take us to red alert, all hands at battle ready".

"Thank you Lieutenant, it's good to have you on board. If you would like to hang around, we can go over some preparations in a little while".

He smiled, and shook Nonir's hand. Seeing the Admiral arrive, he stood straight from the command chair.

"Fleet Admiral on deck. Welcome to the Iroquois Admiral Karelia".

"That would be right. Either we destroy those vessels with this chance, or we lose this battle. I do not think this crew is a losing crew".

"If they're under attack now, they might not be alive when we get to them. Helm, Mr. Nonir, engage the course at maximum warp".
He took a seat in his command chair.
"Ensign Swift, Commander Lollock, your both in the tactical department on this ship, we had some slight troubles with a phase variance I think? Make sure our tactical systems are top notch, and our security is ready for possible boarding parties. I want this ship battle ready within the hour".

=A=Bridge to Sickbay, prepare for medical emergencies, we are heading to a possible attack=A=

"Everyone knows what to do in a possible combat situation, report to me, or to Commander Lollock every fifteen minutes, I want to know how every part of this ship is going to fare if we get into ship to ship fire. Pull up everything we know about the Heraan".

"I look forward to it, and seeing what this thing can do. I don't suppose this class of ship has changed a lot since my days on the Sphinx and Paladin".
He turned again as the science chief came on board.
"Welcome Commander Cook, it is great to have you on board. A highly decorated science officer so I hear. Along with your science duties, perhaps you can fill the position of my second officer. But only in a crunch, this ship won't need any grand command staff".

=A= Agreed Commander, prepare for transport =A=

The small transporter section fo the Defiant class ship recieved word to transport Teranis, and he was energized back to the Iroquois within minutes.

Captain Fred Lurado took his first step onto the decks of the new Defiant class starship. Not many decks, nothing overly majestic, to some. To him, it was home. A full circle travel from the MEV Paladin, his first command, a Defiant civillian ship. He took a look around. 'Humble' he thought, and he pictured the movement of his equally humble number of crew. He took the turbolift to the bridge, a short ride, and opened a communication to the station.

Lurado sat silent untill the last of the senior staff entered the conference room. He began as they took their seats.
"I think most of you are aware of the persuit we have. The Heraan vessels sent to assist their fellows whom we destroyed are following us, and have our trail to follow all of the way to SS Avalon, and Dantor. Regardless of the capabilities of the starbase, I do not think it responsible of us to lead any amount of danger to those at the base and planet. The freighter is destroyed, therefore we are the only targets of reach for the Heraan. We can be assured they will not surrender to us, or end their persuit. It had been suggested that we made the freighter a trap for them. Though it likely would have only killed the Heraan away team that were to be sent to it. The margin of error for a plan of that sort, small or large, was unacceptable. And so in destroying it, we are the target.

I called you here for options of either disabling, or destroying our persuing ships. Weapons are for the most part offline, I believe. We cannot hope for efficient fire fight between fresh ships, that have not been in heavy combat as we have. It is prudent to devise something of creativity, but time is short. Are there any ideas?". He finished, looking around the table.

"Can we get further confirmation that the freighters are still there and intact? Unfortunately, I find it very hard to believe that in the time they had between the distress signal and our arrival, that they wouldn't destroy those ships. Unless they only intended to lure us here".

"Welcome to the Iroquois Lieutenant Starchaser. The CMO is Lieutenant Travis, he should be around the sickbay, I am sure he could use your help there".
