Hal powered up the hovering system, and moved back to 2500 meters.  Switching on targeting systems, he fired his phasers, dealing heavy damage to the targets.  Hal grinned, and took aim at a different target, sending heavy waves of fire at it.  "That good?  I used targeting, but I personally find it a hinderance to use it if I can get away with it.  Though it's wonderful for phasers." Hal said, "And that's what the 2000 used to stand for- my accuracy range with CD's.  I'd usually shoot from the ground, but I figured I'd fire in mid air."

"I'm a Sentient Being.  My purpose is to learn, react, and be similar to a human, yet maintain all intelligence of a droid.  The meaning of 'Fun' is to enjoy something, or to do something that creates a sense of joy.  Since I'm supposed to be Sentient, and also because Ardeth built me with a Personality Profile, I can feel what it's like to have fun.  And in a way, racing, or target practice, can be a way to show you are better.  However, if we are doing a shooting match, we should turn off our targeting systems.  Make it like humans would have to do.  If we race, I'll have to tone down my motors.  However, I've got an idea:  If we combine the 2, it'll make it more of a challenge.  Then we can have targeting on, and I won't have to cut motor power.  We can't stop if we have to shoot at targets and move.  Most accuracy on targets wins." Hal said, grinning with a slight look that he might have a half-chance at it.

Hal grinned.  "My pleasure." he said, backing up from his spot, to where HK47 was.  He popped in 2 discs, closed the doors, and overvolted the motors.  The disc drives nearly screamed, the motors spinning at hundreds of thousands of RPM's.  He hovered, took careful aim, and popped the drive doors open, bottom, 2 seconds wait, top door, CD's following after.  The bottom one tore into the target, following on.  It cleared the way, letting the top disc, which spun faster, glide over the debris, and the second disk.  They both struck targets, spinning the opposite ways.  Striking the wall, they shattered, spraying plastic all over the targets.

"How's that?" Hal questioned, closing the disc doors, a computerized grin on his face as he landed.  A thin trail of smoke rose from targets damaged from the disc-firing robot.  Hal spun on the spot, placing in 2 more disks, and backing up further, taking careful aim as he hovered, now 2000 meters away.  He spun the discs up to full speed, the motors screaming, as the disc trays opened rapidly.  Both CD's flew out at the same time, zoomed past HK47, and sank deep into targets, disintegrating into rubble, and embedding itself in any target nearby.  "I don't use targeting systems for Disks.  That's my aiming I use."

Hal began pacing, his metallic feet thudding loudly as he paced back and forth, a certain cadence to his steps.

*Many Days Later*

Hal came whirring in, each motor in every servo growling.

Hal was covered in sand and mud: he'd been out working his keep for oil.  Today, he had sand in all of his servo-motors and was not in a healthy mood.  "What do you want?" he asked, his metallic voice crashing loudly.

Hal had the cat in his metallic hands.  He walked over to Weasly Cook, and said, "I believe this would be the cat you call Captain Smith." his resonant metallic voice ringing.

"Not much." came Hal's metallic voice.  "I'm Hal 2000, but everyone calls me Hal."

Something heavy and metallic crashed in.  Hal 9000, in his powerful metal armor, arrived at the door and sat down hard.  Each servo was fixed, and he had a beautiful polish to his metal form.

Something bumped into Kassie's chair, and toppled another one.  A small computer, like those from the 20th century, had come speeding in.  It tried to back up, wheels underneath screaming powerfully, but it couldn't push the chair backwards.  "Um, could you please help me, miss?" Hal inquired, resolutely letting the lady help if she could.  There was an awful lot of dirt on the cover and he looked a mess, but Hal had managed to create a scene all on his own.

Hal waved a little roughly, but it was due to his attempts to replicate human actions.  He didn't know what he needed, other than someone to talk to.

Hal looked around, before thudding heavily into a dark corner and powering down for a reset and a charge cycle.

Hal decided now would be the perfect time to show his prowess at hovering.  with a soft whoosh, 4 pods came out and activated, lifting Hal up off the table.  He then made a soft whistling sound, levitating about 6 inches from any surfaces that could hold him up.  grinning, Hal floated around before landing softly on the table again.

Hal leaned in one of the chairs, his massive metal body relaxed as much as could be done.  He was looking into the bowl in front of him, analyzing every inch of it.  He had no need to eat, but still came here to talk, for company.  Yet few ever gave him any.  He looked strangely wolflike, his mask shining with bright metal as he sat there, turning his head to view things.  He had lasers in his eyes, a phaser and a laser gun in his retracted hip holsters, and the want for adventure.

Hal turned and the gears in his servos scratched with such a noise it could hurt people's ears.  "Damn it!  Yet again the sand wins."
