Messages - Hal 2000

Celtic Corner / Celtic Corner - Have a drink, or a snack!

A soft whirring came from near a chair: Hal 2000 had gotten stuck and tried to free himself with much crashing and banging.

Hal suddenly aimed his grabbing arm, and took aim at Balkazar with the whipped cream bottle he had swiped.  "HEY!! OVER HERE!" he yelled, his tinny voice blasting through 2 internal speakers, his computerized face breaking into a grin as he prepared to fire.  Crosshairs appeared in his computerized eyes:  a sign he was aiming.

Hal chuckled.  "To Earth." he said, stating where most of the pieces were from.  He raised his glass and clinked it to the chair, smiling his computerized way.  He then prowled over to Dobson, having managed to extricate himself from the chair.

Heavy metallic footsteps crashed through the hallway before a gleaming robot arrived in the bar.  Hal 2000, version 2.2, had arrived inside Celtic Corner, his favorite place to relax and learn, watching the actions of humans and hearing gossip from the stations.  He had dirt in one of his servos and had taken off his left hand to try to fix it.  rather difficult to hold and fix a hand like that.  He re-connected all the wires, placed his hand back on the metal shaft, and twisted it, locking it on.  He carefully let his hand power up, smiling a computerized grin as he let gravity drop it on the table and dirt fall out.  Hal looked around, his backpack fused to his back permanently, for it held his auxillary power supply and his thrust engines.  He could fly a short distance, or use it to jump bigger gaps.

Hal made his way up to the bar and sat down on one of the stools, motors and servos growling.  He looked at the wall, cameras focusing on random items.  His sensitive microphones alerted him to someone nearby, and he whipped around, all 300 pounds of metal and servos and gears and batteries.  Hal was not light at all, for his builder had made him for combat, not to blend in.  A hard-disk drive spooled up and he looked as if focusing on something outside of this room, as he read the data coming up.

At that moment, Hal opened a pod on his leg and grasped a small laser-pistol: remnants of his old webcam laser, mounted in a gun-form so that he could use it still.

"Hello." Hal spoke, still sitting at the bar, pocketing the gun.  His voice was ancient and metallic, as if he were made in the 20th century.

"Don't see much around here these days." he said, his voice ringing softly.  "Been quiet, peaceful, even.  Too peaceful.  It would be so much fun to have some action here." he added.  "But my idea of fun is something that doesn't always come without a price.  War isn't fun, but a bar-room brawl or a gunfight is always good." Hal said, before realizing he was rambling.

Hal crashed his way up to Gilraen, his wolf-like metallic face-plating gleaming silver in the light of the tavern.  He was, of course, a robot.  Not an android, but a metal mess lucky to have been around this long.

"Hello." he spoke in a perfectly accented voice, almost as if trying to replicate American speech.  He was friendly, but missed the wars and the hustle and bustle of wars and conflicts.  He also liked being able to relax, like he was now.  Hal was ancient for his time, having survived a long time.  Starting as a wheeled computer and working his way up until he'd been integrated into full battle armor.  He longed for a mission, but hadn't the courage to ask anyone for a temporary mission.

He sat there, waiting for someone to notice him, the metal mess sitting on a barstool.  Almost 400 pounds of metal.  Yet, surprisingly, he wore human clothing, including an ancient cape- his symbolism of age.  In a holster in the right shoulder, sealed until need in battle arose, was a small laser gun.

Hal sputtered and went into his reboot mode.  Words written in symbols flashed across the screen before he fully booted up, snapped his arm around and back in, and spun those motors at high RPM's to try to free himself.  He went a little faster, popping the hover pods out and suddenly stopping the wheels.  He had no cares for himself right now as he felt the 4 fans howling and starting to lift heavily.

"I'm not in the brig because I'm not the old Hal.  All I have are his memories."

Hal cursed loudly and left the room at max speed.

He was back soon after, but arrived with heavy metal footsteps crashing down the hall: He'd upgraded to the 9000 series system.  His heavy polished chrome gleamed and he looked a little more impressive.  His eyes were an iridescent blue, his face odd but a little more useful.  He also had pointed ears; one of them held a com device and the other an antenna for it.  His nose was a little long.  When he spoke, his mouth did not move, but a yellow light lit up behind it.  Both hands had 5 fingers, and his right hand flipped around for an internal phaser.  Both metal boots had super powerful magnets in them.  On his back were 2 retractable pods designed for flying.  In a powerfully commanding metallic voice, he walked up to Balkazar and said, "Hello, Balkazar.  Recognize me?"

Hal made to look at Kloek8, and then spoke, "Hello.  I am Hal Two-Thousand.  Who are you?"  His polished steel and his strange voice made him seem odd, even by robotic standards.  Hal spun up the hard-drives, looking for the information he'd downloaded years ago.  He then carefully opened up the back-pack's side panel, pulled out a cat-like face panel and top, and set it down.  "Time to change masks." he said, his silvery steel skin glinting the light from the room.  Hal took off his normal human-like mask, hearing the air hiss softly as it released.  He then put the catlike one on, the air hissing again to seal it down.  Hal's voice hadn't changed: only a few settings ever changed, such as the microphone sensitivity and molecular sensors.  He was advanced enough to be able to see, hear, smell, and speak, but lacked touch sensors.  This had a result that led to him usually breaking things by applying too much force.

"Hal 2000, Reporting for duty, Sir!" Came the voice of Hal from the floor.  Somehow he had managed to fall off the desk and landed upside down on the floor, effectively stopping his abilities to move.

(Guess who this is.)

Hal, still upon the desk, began to switch off all unnecessary programs, leaving everything on but the games he was playing in the background. He spun the CDROM drive up to top speed, the disk screaming as he positioned himself for some targeting practice, with nonlethal rubber disks.  The drive bay popped open, the disk sailed out, and slammed into the wall.  "Agh!  Too high!  Loaded that one with too much spin speed!  Wait, I'm trying to shoot too low, I need to aim higher, considering I am on the ground all the time!"

Even being not like Data, he does have a backup module in which he'd become a metallic droid.  Course, then he becomes Hal_9000.

Hal couldn't hack or steal info. It's against his programming, and if he were to get that information, he would destroy it or self-destruct.
