-Become medical instructor quicker, rank of Crewman (storyline situation would have to be that you are expert medical crew, never went to be an officer)

-Go through the academy in the Medical course ( I am the temp instructor ) and take the open beginning command training, and instruct AND be the Academy 3rd with the rank of Ensign/Lt. J.G. perhaps.

End of it all is, to be Ensign above, have to go through the Deep Space Academy. And for a command spot like Academy 3rd, I wouldn't give to anyone but an officer.
