Post by: Thomas Stiegler on October 04, 2002, 04:07:13 PM
Lieut. Mannion, please report at my office later.

We need to talk about your personal file; there are some details missing concerning your family. Perhaps you will be able to help me filling the gaps?

"We are guiding you to our homeworld which has been peaceful for centuries, because it is hidden and it is our choice who is allowed to find it and who not.
Now, whether you ordered to fire upon us or not, how do we know you will not bring war to our empire?  And maybe if it's not you, it may be one of your officers!

As for now, our ship is heavily damaged and the engines are down, because we had no shields activated, thinking you were not an enemy! We can't continue travelling so we go to full stop and start repairs, and since we have many wounded as well, we are not sufficiently manned and repairs will go slow."

Pax looks confused...

"A warp core?  And how can it support us power for the whole planet?  But we are not as technologically advanced as you, captain, I have no idea what it is and how to create it.  We are desperate, so we are willing to accept any help we can get..."

"I think you are insane to destroy our one chance to become mighty in the whole galaxy!  But it's too late now... you destroyed it!  And now we have the Skytoucher on our heels so we have to get the #### out of here!  We can still continue this discussion later."

He pushes some buttons on some panels on the Yzakian ship's bridge.

"I'm moving the ship away from the planet, deeper into the Van'Gu cluster, so the Skytoucher is at a safe distance away from us.  Do you know the secret frequencies to contact the Dragon to call them for assistance?  Tell them to be cloaked when they get here, and to hurry before this captain Goransson catches us!"

Sir, this is Mr. Svensson from engineering.  I noticed something was going wrong in the computer system and I sent Mannion a directive command that could only be inserted from the bridge, to prevent anything wrong from happening.  But apparently I was too late and it happened anyway.  Sorry for not telling before, but there was no time to explain.

"It is our believe that violence can only create more violence.
And as long as species all over the universe keep distrusting each other, going around with weapons for in case the other would attack them, they can't expect the others to put down their weapons either.  Peace starts in your own heart, counselor, and captain. Only if you lay down your weapons first, you can ask others to do the same. Otherwise it would seem like a 'let us have peace' conversation while still having a weapon pointed at each other.
Our goal is to have a Universal Peace, so that all species in the universe lay down their weapons, respect each other and no longer live in violence toward each other.  Even just carrying a weapon, is already enough to create the basic of violence."

I agree with Mr. Harper in so far that this thing was searching for something...

But, Mr. Harper, what you call 'technology' seemed to me to be some kind of this thing's natural ability. I perceived a number of emotions from it... anger... fear...

Captain, this thing is not only a crowd of technology. Indeed it seems to be an intelligent lifeform...

Peter Svensson slips off to the science departments and places himself behind a console and accesses the sensor reading reports.

"Computer, is the Van'Gu cluster within sensor range?"

Computer: The Van'Gu cluster is within range of the maximum long range sensors.

"Computer, how precise are the readings?"

Computer: sensors indicate fluctuations within the Van'Gu cluster.  Readings may be inconclusive.

"Good.  Scan for all unknown and classified substances within the cluster."

Computer: this task will require approximately 45 minutes and 32 seconds.

"Computer, send the report to my room, clarification Svensson Alpha 452."

Svensson leaves the science department again and returns to engineering.

"Our Prime Directive says that we shouldnt interfere with the development of other species, and that is a great rule - to some degree.  But in this case, it will be our own destruction if we let your development continue.  Economists, you say?  What makes you think that those same economists wouldnt grab the control over the Validum, and use it against other powers in the Galaxy, such as Starfleet?  We have no other choice but to take it from you, and it's exactly what we'll do now!"

He looks at Mannion.

"Ignore the incoming calls of the USS Skytoucher.  By the time they figured out what all this was about, we have long accomplished our goal and are safely back on some of the hidden bases of Section 31 or the FSS.
What do you say, Zack?  We could take the validum easily...  We simply beam the Yzakians off this ship to their homeworld, so no harm is done to them, we beam the validum in the storage space of this ship, we use our secret access codes to disable the Skytoucher's shields on remote... we attack them so that their weapons and engines are offline for long enough that we can escape on warp speed with this ship.
By the time the Skytoucher has repaired their engines, and figured out what is going on, we are long gone and there will be no trace of where we went to...
Shall we take the validum, now at this only chance we have, Zack? Shall we give Section 31 and the FSS the once in a century opportunity to make the Federation and Starfleet safe against all enemies forever?"

"Good thinking, Zack!" he says with a smile.  He pushes aside Kyzox from his panel, and pushes some buttons to access the system.

Then, he fires the Yzakian ship's weapons at the USS Skytoucher, carefully aiming at the engines and weapon systems.
The USS Skytoucher shudders under impact... and Svensson opens fire again.

Whateevr it was, it was big fast and the Technology is far more Advanced then we have seen anywhere.  It obviously percieved as as non-thrreatening and also seems to appear to be looking ro searching for something.

My Inital scans are inconclusive to what of anything it has or how it operates, but i can tell you that id advise to stay out of it's way.

"I think I found out what I was picking up... some sort of residue of validium... not the stuff itself but its footprints and bodysmell, so you could say...  Though it seems that the Yzakians are not aware of it, perhaps they dont even know they have something to do with validium.  But my guess is that we'll find what we are looking for in the middle of the Van'Gu Cluster."

Mr. Svensson, I'm the Operations Officer here on USS Skytoucher. Well I believe not all the ships work like that and though that thing that stole the Borg cube seemed to be harmless to us.. I still have a weird feeling, something happened to the ship. Have you talked to any crew members on the Engeering deck? I believe  he had an assistant. Let me check the computer.. ah.. no he didn't have. The place is vacant. Maybe we could use the commutator to get reports from all the decks of the ship?

But  Svensson did not let him finish and hit him in the stomach with his fist, so that Pax fell down.  Others on the bridge got up to prevent it, but Zack Mannion kept his weapon sharply aimed at them so they didn't dare to move.

Then, Svensson looked at Zack.

"This is the only chance we'll get to destroy the validum, Zack.  All we have to do is aim the weapons of this ship at that space container, and the validum is blown out of existance and the universe is saved..."

There are a few moments of silence before he continues...

"But imagine what we could do if we did not destroy the Validum... but keep it for ourselves.  We would not only save the universe once, by taking this destructive power source from the Yzakians so they cant do harm with it, but we could use it to save the universe multiple times... we could use it to destroy the Borg for once and for all!  We could destroy the Dominion and the Jem'Hadar!  We could destroy all those foes that could pose a threath to Starfleet, and the Federation, and none in the universe would dare to attack us ever again, none will dare to be our enemy!"

What you see there, is indeed a powerful energy source.  We discovered it a few years ago, when our planet was at the edge of destruction after ages of industry polluting our planet.  Nature was about to die, our people needed oxygen masks if they came outside, in some of the larger cities, there was no more clean water and the animals were almost all dead.
And our last hope was to find a solution in the depths of space, and so we built ships that could travel at warp speed and went to-"

What did you say, Mannion?
Title: USS Skytoucher - Mission 2: The Van'Gu Cluster
Post by: Peter Svensson on November 07, 2002, 04:34:16 PM
And so Svensson started his explanation...

"Until about a year ago, I was stationed on the USS Excalibur.  It was in the middle of peace negotiations with a race called the Molakians, who were considering to join the Federation as a member.  Negotiations went well, until the USS Excalibur suddenly opened fire on the Malokian ship.
But the captain never ordered to open fire.
The Malokians were outraged, as you can imagine, and what was supposed to be a peaceful negotiation and a new membership for the Federation, nearly turned out in a full scale war between Starfleet and the Malokians.

I had never seen my captain so angry as back then, and he ordered a full investigation on who had fired weapons without approval.  He wanted these people in the brig and court martialled, and if he could, their heads on a plate.
And so I assisted the chief engineer and chief security in an investigation on the whole ship.  We questioned every crewmember, went through every log the ship's computer had, and yet we couldn't come up with a name.

Until I discovered what had caused the ship to fire weapons.  It wasn't at anyone's command but the computer itself!
There was a substance floating in space, very rare in origin and almost unable to trace with scanners.  This substance sends out subspace waves, invisible to the eye, not harming to any living being, almost unable to trace with refined sensors even, but when it comes in contact with computer systems that have an artificial intelligence, it interferes with the computer's normal functions.  In other words, it drove the computer insane and irrational.  And so the computer fired without any orders to it.

*Before Svensson can react, mannion are at the weapon console and fires a photon torpedo at the container. When it hits it, it comes a huge blast that makes both Skytoucher and the Yzakian ship shiver and are throwned back a bit by the shockwave, the two men on the Yzakian ship are throwned to the floow, and when they stands up, Svensson are not happy by Mannions action.*

And this is exactly the thing that happened here again, despite my actions to try and prevent it.

I was doing some detailed scans on this unique Van'Gu cluster, when I suddenly noticed the similar subspace waves.  I remembered them from a year ago on the USS Excalibur, and I knew what would happen.
But I noticed them too late.  Too late to contact you, captain, and explain you the danger of them.  And surely, general ship's sensors wouldn't even notice them.
The only option I had left to prevent a disaster, was to shut down the ship computer's artificial intelligence. That way, there was no danger for interference with the subspace waves.  Though, I could not do that from my panel in engineering, and it could only be done at the bridge.  And so I contacted Mannion and gave him a directive to input that would shut down the artificial intelligence of the computer.

But, as you can see, not even my quick actions were quick enough, because I couldn't prevent it after all.
I'm sorry for not explaining it to you, but I had to take my chances to prevent this, though they were in vain.

"This ship is now under my direction! We have control over all the systems, and you will do exactly as we say, do you understand that?"

He points for a moment at the viewscreen, still displaying the panel and a small space station in orbit around it.

"We know what you got inside that space-container there!  One of the most powerful substances in the universe!  You could destroy galaxies with this immense concentrated power, and so we can't allow you to have it!"

The second officer of the ship can't believe what the readouts are telling him.
"This must be a malfunction on my panel!" he said, as he ran to another panel on the bridge.
"What is a malfunction?" Pax asked. "Tell me, Kyzox!"
But Kyzox didn't answer right away, he focussed his mind on the readouts of another panel.  And a few moments later, to yet another panel.  Until he had checked nearly every panel.
"This... this can't be true!" Kyzox said.  "We are betrayed!"
"Betrayed?" Pax asked.  "By who?"
"The USS Skytoucher!"

Silence falls on the bridge, except for the alert sirens that keep blazing...

"I have checked and checked again, it was the USS Skytoucher who fired a torpedo at us...  It was fired directly at the midst of our ship...  We welcome them with open arms and in peace, and they attack us at the weakest moment..."

Regarding your new orders.

The ship is ordered to investigate the Van'Gu Cluster.  Check the Stellar Map to find its location and set course.  It is a simple scientific investigation, no dangers are expected.

Due to the fact that the USS Skytoucher's crew is not as active as it should be, two new officers are assigned:

Lieutenant Zack Mannion, tactical officer
Lieutenant Peter Svensson, engineer

They will report in momentarily.
Once they have reported in, you are free for departure.

The Yzakian ship was travelling deeper into the Van'Gu cluster, carefully going its way toward their destination, not too fast so the USS Skytoucher would be able to follow.

Suddenly, the Yzakian ship shudders heavily. A cracking sound can be heard everywhere, panels explode, half the bridge is on fire and filling with smoke.  Alarm sirens are crying.

Prime Officer Pax: "What is that?  What happened to the ship?  Did we hit something?"
The officers all look stunned, not understanding what is going on. Immediately, they all push buttons on the panels that still work, to find out what is going on.  But when they find out what is going on, they look even more stunned...

I did some calculations and all of them pointed at you two! There is something you are hiding, Svensson and Mannion. And I am about to find out what. I will grant Mannion permission to board the Yzakian ship, but not you, Lt. Svensson. You will be under close surveilance the whole time Mannion are on the Yzakian ship. And if something indicates on a computer override without my knowledge or authorization, your head WILL get on a plate, Lieutenant Svensson. And you, Lieutenant Mannion, will not contact him either wothout my knowledge. Post by: Peter Svensson on November 07, 2002, 04:41:48 PM
But one thing I would like to add... I think that this substance I talked about, is probably anywhere near our location.  The Van'Gu cluster is not easy to scan (which is why I had refined the sensors so well that they could even track the subspace waves!) and I don't know where this substance could be.  For all we know, it could be on the Yzakian ship even, and perhaps not even they know it is there.

Captain, may I volunteer to board the Yzakian ship (if they agree) and assist them in their repairs?  It will be a good note for us, proving we really didn't intend to do them harm, and since I know better than anyone on this ship what truly happened, I can go and explain them.  Though Starfleet likes to keep these things secret so the whole crew shouldn't know about this.
The only other person who knows about it, is Mannion, because he was there too aboard the Excalibur when it happened.

I shouldn't even be telling this to you, captain, Starfleet could have my head for this, but I think you deserve an explanation.
I hope you allow me and Zack to help the Yzakians with their repairs."

"Compare how big the Yzakians are... see how easy it is for us to take it from them now! It's a piece of cake!  If two man can do it, its all the easier for a few Borg cubes to do it...
But Starfleet is much stronger, and we know what power this validum contains... we know that we shouldnt simply contain it in orbit around some planet, but keep it safely hidden... the Borg wont even know that we have validum in our possession!  And before they ever get their assimilated hands on it, we'll have destroyed them with that very validum!  And the same goes for the Dominion and  Species 8472!
If all of them mount an attack on us, the Federation is history... and then the validum may be our only hope!"

Think, Zack, think! What if the Borg invents some more destructive technology, which is at their rate of development not unlikely at all, and we will, with our technology, be nothing compared to them?

Everything is set as agreed.  According to my scans, the validum is concentrated in some sort of small space station in orbit around the planet Yzakia.  We have no choice but to take over the Yzakian ship and do what we came here to do... to destroy the Validum.  I have set input codes on all the computer panels of this ship I could access, so a takeover of the ship should be easy.
Lets get started..."

*He pushes a few buttons, and suddenly an alarm siren resounds through the whole ship.  Everyone is suddenly confused, as they try to access their computer panels but the panels have shut them out.  They look at Svensson and Mannion, who have already disappeared into a turbolift...*

'That sounds very interesting, Mr. Kyzox - although I'm not sure, if it is really the weapon that creates violence. I think violence begins in people's minds, and it's everyone's obligation to control his own aggressions. But as not everybody will be able - or willing - to do so, those who are peaceful have to defend themselves against the others' violence. And even if there were no more weapons all over the universe, the violent people would create new weapons again and again - to avoid this, there had to be someone who still has weapons to force the violent people not to build new weapons...

Your theory is really fascinating, but I'm not sure about its feasibility, Mr. Kyzox...'

Post by: Pax on December 23, 2002, 04:02:52 PM
Pax was on the Yzakian ship's bridge, looking at his homeworld on the viewscreen and about to contact the USS Skytoucher, as suddenly an alarm siren went off.

He looks at his officer, Kyzox.

"What is this?  Why are the sirens going of?"

Title: USS Skytoucher - Mission 2: The Van'Gu Cluster
Post by: Pax on December 27, 2002, 04:24:04 PM
... Meanwhile, the Yzakian crew of the Yzakian ship, including Pax and Kyzox, had been beamed down to their planet.  It took them awhile to return to their Main Palace, where they had the technology available on backup power (since the main power source had been blown into nonexistance now) to make subspace contact.
And at last, the USS Skytoucher, busy repairing their engines and weapon systems but their communication systems still fully operational, receives an incoming transmission...

"This is Pax!  What have you done to us?  You have destroyed something we have worked on for many years!  Your officers on our ship had taken over our ship and removed us from it!  And then they destroyed our main energy source!  The whole planet is falling without power reserves and our whole world is turning into chaos as we speak!  This will mean the end of the Yzakian civilisation... we have no other energy source to turn to, besides the ones that nearly destroyed our planet because of pollution!  And chaos is making things worse!  Now that we are powerless, what will you do?  Destroy us completely?  Why have you done this?"

Title: USS Skytoucher - Mission 2: The Van'Gu Cluster
Post by: Kyzox on December 27, 2002, 08:30:06 PM
Some minutes later, Kyzox materializes in the transporter room of the USS Skytoucher.  He looks around, still not really used to how a transporter works and how come he can be so fast at another place so far away.  After a few seconds, he gets off the platform.

"I am Kyzox, assistant of Mr. Pax.  All I ask is a small chamber for myself to perform my daily meditation, and I will do my best to negotiate peace for my people."

Title: USS Skytoucher - Mission 2: The Van'Gu Cluster
Post by: Kyzox on January 04, 2003, 12:36:15 PM
"There is a point there, but do you see the vicious circle in your own words?
People create weapons.  Other people create weapons against these people.  These people create stronger weapons.  Other people have to create yet stronger weapons. And so on and so on.
And in the end, you have still not evolved one bit closer toward peace, not even among your own race, let alone the whole universe.
Can you be sure that people will try to create weapons again, when children grow up without even learning the word 'weapon'?  How can a child not think of making weapons, when it grows up in a society where weapons are created and used for whatever reason, even defense?
But if everyone puts down their weapons, and children grow up in an evironment of peace, they will not even know what the word 'weapon' means.  Weapons will be forgotten in the long term and peace will have a chance to last forever. Because violence, as well as peace, begins in one's mind and heart indeed, councelor, and so children should grow up in an environment of peace, not surrounded by weapons, so peace is in their hearts, and not violence."

No, no Mr. Stiegler. Thank you but I'm alright. I believe some other crew members might need help and medical assistance. I'll go check the torpedo tubes.
Doc, the lift failure was before during or after the accident? I can take the technician's team and fix the lifts.. Of course if the captain doesn't have any other orders for me right now..

Yea, you´r probably right.

Yellow allert. Don´t raise shields or activate weapons. But be prepared to do so in any indication of danger.

I don´t know how to tell you this: I don´t trust you. And I do not trust Mannion either. The reason that I do not let you go too is that you two might make more trubble then now. I will send you, unarmed and with no trickorders. You will go in a half hour if they want to get you. Dissmiss!

"This is Kyzox, my second in command, he will assist you with the repairs and tell you where you can find everything."

Pax bows by way of respect.

"Thank you, captain.  Mr. Kyzox is ready to be beamed over to your ship now.  He will send us a report every now and then to keep us informed about the negotiations.  Stay in harmony, always, captain."

And he signed off.

OFF: may I suggest you actually arrive at the Van'Gu cluster now?  The storyline is getting dready and uninteresting because you've been on your way so long and nothing is happening now.
The arrival inside the Van'Gu cluster will go together with a new First Contact, by the way.

I found a trail of Z.D.Y. particles... on that Yzakian ship.  But I can't tell for sure if we can find anything there or not. I suggest you carry out directice Alpha-85314 because I can't do that from an engineering panel.  Svensson out.
