"WHY! didnt you tell me you signed as my XO?, Rena." Rajnus said from behind his desk.
"You know that our past relationship can't interfere with our duties now. I broke up with you because of this and now your serving as my XO!. If your here to try and rekindle our relationship it must not happen, it CANT! happen. Im a Captain now and how do you think it would look to those under my command that if they knew of our past relationship?" Rajnus said seriously from behind his desk showing no emotions at all.

"The Captain wanted me to accompany you and your marines to the planet surface to gather information on the planetary defense cannon," answered Dolan as he finished suiting up, "such as what type of weapon it is, how it works, etc." Dolan then picked out a phaser rifle before he added, "He also wanted me to help you as much as possible after."

"It seems we're got their attention," Angel said, bobbing and weaving her Pyro around midair plasma detonations. "All units, switch phasers to independent-fire mode."
The seven Pyros rocketed toward their ground-based attackers, and each fighter's four phaser cannons, which normally fired in unison, now fired one after the other. This allowed the fighters to keep a continual stream of fire as opposed to four-shot salvoes. The Starfleet pilots raced toward the front lines, peppering the enemy gun emplacements with pulsed phaser fire.
Suddenly, a shrill tone filled Angel's cockpit, and she saw the flash of three plasma missiles launched from the surface. "Break!" she screamed, and pulled hard back and to the left on her flight stick. Two other Pyros did the same. The missile passed so close to Angel's cockpit canopy that she could see the striations in it's casing. One other fighter dodged as well, but the third was hit hard. "Mayday, mayday," cried the pilot. Deveraux identified the voice immediately as that of Lieutenant Alyssa Rawlings.
"Ali!" Deveraux called, using the pilot's nickname. "Bail out, that's an order!" Vertigo Three began to fall as the anti-grav generators gave out. "Transporter pod is shot, Angel! I can't keep this tug steady!"
The stricken craft made a desperate attempt at leveling out, but was unable to maintain altitude. It wavered and crashed, several hundred meters from the lines, unfortunately on the Heraani side.
Having stabilized the rest of her team just outside missile range, Angel looked helplessly at the distant crash site. She wanted more than anything to fly down there and rescue Alyssa, but it wasn't even certain she was still alive, and it would take precious time that the ground teams needed. She had a hard choice to make, between her friend and comrade, or the dozens of marines on the surface, most of whom she'd never even met.
"Orders, ma'am?" came Hunter's somber inquiry. "Continue with the offensive," Deveraux replied. "Alyssa will have to fend for herself."
Angel punched up the command vehicle on NAVCOM, and opened a two-way channel. "Colonel Balkazar, this is Vertigo One. I need you to send a unit to the coordinates of that crash. One of my best pilots might still be down there, and I'll be damned if the Heraan are going to take her without a fight."

(OFF: Actually, it's not. The naval rank of Major was ill-conceived and was removed several years ago.)
Raszagal entered the barracks, but the Colonel did not appear to be ready to address his marines yet. Therefore, Raszagal made her way to the gym at the far end of the barracks, jumped up onto one of the pull-up bars, and began a set of one-handed pull-ups.
As soon as she noticed the Colonel was wrapping up in his last-minute affairs, the lithe-bodied Gallifreyan dropped from the bar, and wiping the lone bead of sweat from her brow, began to make her way to the assembly of soldiers.

<Making sure he put on everything he had a nearby private help him tripple check everything. Helmet, body armor, personal shield, grenades, phase rifle, hand phaser, combat knives, everything was set as all the marines were checking to make sure they had the same gear, while the medics made sure they had the same gear plus their medical supplies>

Dar'Nas was preparing to send repair teams once they were in warp, as to avoid interfering the mission. He also made sure that the emergency force fields were functioning so any weapons fire taken while the shields were down could be dealt with immediately.

"This thing is a marvel of engineering, despite its origins," commented Dolan, "My guess would that it fires kinetic projectiles - the speeds and power that are required to exit orbit are enormous. A single projectile from the cannon would probably destroy or at least severally cripple any Alpha or Beta Quadrant vessel I can think of. From what I can tell from our scans so far, the emplacement is structurally sound, without so much as a misplaced screw, and also possesses formidable fortifications. Getting inside is going to be tough but taking it apart is going to be a nightmare."

"That is clear, Colonel. I believed a note of caution would have been benefitial to the air squadrons and since you seemed quite occupied coordinating the attack, I gave it. I did not give any orders out nor was I trying to override your authority," Dolan replied calmly.
The command vehicle suddenly shook violently, knocking several people off their feet.
"We've entered weapons range of the Heraan and their anti-vehicle turrets," said Dolan. "The air squadrons also seem to have their hands full with the anti-aircraft turrets," he added after hearing a series of explosions overhead, "It seems like the Heraan are trying to use something similar to flak, but much more powerful to try and knock the fighter craft out of the sky."

Angel heard the Colonel's query, but at this point in a dogfight, she chose to ignore it, as it was nothing but a distraction. Her attention was on her wingmen, and on the Heraani interceptors coming at them at 1500 KPH.
The seven Pyro fighters tightened their wedge formation, and primed phaser cannons. "On my mark," Deveraux ordered, "give them a missile and break formation into a standard bloom."
All seven pilots armed a single photonic missile and each targeted a different enemy. "Tangos are guns-hot," came the voice of Vertigo Two, callsign Hunter, Angel's wingman.
"Keep frosty," Deveraux said without hesitation. "Fire in three."
The entire team counted down in their own heads, and three seconds later, seven photonic concussion missiles screamed toward the Heraan, one from each Starfleet fighter. As soon as the ordinance left their mounts, the seven fighters all pulled away, each a dozen or so degrees away from their neighbor, in a formation resembling a starburst.
The missiles were right on target, and seven Heraani interceptors were struck with the high-explosive ordinance. Four of those were vaporized immediately, the rest were severely damaged. However, it didn't take the Heraan long to respond, and a few of the Starfleet pilots found their cockpits filled with the tone of a hostile weapons lock.

<The fire teams stopped in the rear and aimed their rocket launcher weapons at the incoming damaged enemy fighters and opened fire. What wasnt destroyed by Angel's wing was definately destroyed as several photonic rockets came from the ground peircing the air as they impacted the already damaged enemy fighters, vaporizing them instantly>

Dolan looked through the sensor scans worriedly, in case the Heraan sprung any more traps or ambushes. The vehicle's shaking was slowly decreasing as the marines made progress in destroying the Heraani turrets and defensive positions.

Dolan turned to Brown from the primary science station and said, "I've finished improving the computer's processing algorithms several hours ago, along with some improvements to the shields and the sensors. I am currently trying to devise a method to boost the strength of the shields without having to add power to them from other systems."

"Colonel, the most recent scans indicate that the Heraan are deploying reinforcements from their orbiting ships. We need to get to that artillery installation and fast."

The last of the Heraani interceptors met with a grizzly fate at the hands of Vertigo Two. Unable to stop from smiling, Angel called, "Vertigo Squadron, form up. Echelon right, Angel has the lead."
All seven fighters from Vertigo Squadron formed up after Deveraux, forming a standard echelon slash to the right, with Angel at the leading tip. "Good work, ladies, but we're not done yet. Now that we've done our part, the boys down below are crying for a little air support. What do you say, shall we give them one more for good measure?"
Hunter, easily identified by his thick Australian accent, could be heard laughing over the comm. "I don't know, Angel, I rather like being the life of the party. Rawlings?"
Lieutenant Rawlings, Vertigo Three, chuckled. "It's not fair, Colonel. We're up here with these fancy ships and we're supposed to go up against those blank-faced bastards? Give me nothin' but a knife, then it's a fair fight."
Angel smiled, and looked back to her NAVCOM. "Well, that settles that. Ladies and gentlemen, our number's been called. Let's not disappoint." One by one, the seven Pyro-GX fighters banked hard to the left and pitched down toward the Heraan's front lines.
All seven fighters from Vertigo Squadron formed up after Deveraux, forming a standard echelon slash to the right, with Angel at the leading tip. "Good work, ladies, but we're not done yet. Raszagal hated the feeling of a Federation transporter, but gritted her teeth as she was disassembled proton by proton, and reassembled on the face of the planet. She immediately slammed the accelerator, and the four independent-axel wheels on the Puma lurched the truck forward, spitting gravel as it went. It was only a matter of seconds before the vehicle was up to 105 kph, and the accelerometer hit it's maximum.
She looked down at the radar (ancient shorthand for the scanners onboard the Puma), and saw the lines of green arrowheads denoting her fellow assault vehicles. They created a wedge formation, with the edges converging on the center of the radar; her location.
Eventually, as Raszagal zoomed the scanner out, she saw batteries of red facing in the opposite direction, several kilometers dead ahead. The Heraan were prepared, and they were heavily fortified. As planned, however, a stripe of green symbols denoting aerial units closed behind them. The private turned to see a flight of seven Pyro-GX fighters taking up the rear flank, ready to advance and provide air superiority as soon as the order was given.

"I'm well aware of that, Four! Thatch weave, on my mark!" Deveraux looked over her right wing, and made sure Stinger was directly abeam of her position. "Mark!"
The two Pyros turned into one another, their turning radii intersecting as they passed meters from one another, Stinger's craft narrowly sliding under Angel's. As they began to straighten out and turn back to intersect again, Angel punched the throttle another 10%. This caused the Heraani pilot, unaccustomed to human flight techniques, to put himself right in Stinger's reticle as Angel crossed his sights.

Dolan's shift soon ended and he decided to throw the towel in on enhancing the ship's systems. They were just too primitive to spend the time and energy on increasing by a small fraction. Dolan headed for a holosuite, feeling the need to revisit the UEF Military Academy. It might not have been his proper home, but it was the first place he called home, despite his origins. Upon arrival at an open holosuite, he went inside and began to program a place that resembled the academy as Dolan recalled from the academy's blueprints and schematics.

Dolan finished programming a virtual version of the UEF Military Academy located on Earth. It appeared very forbidding, with varying shades of gray covering the entire campus and an occasional tree or plant and even a small park in one area. It seemed to radiate centuries of experience and endurance. The people that were strolling the grounds all wore a dark blue uniform with a UEF symbol on the front and arm. Small groups of people that looked somewhat similar to the Borg were regarded by the other people just a cut above servants.
Dolan noticed it was almost time for his shift and turned off his program and returned to the bridge shortly after.

Dolan struggled to remain in his seat as stray missiles from the above fight struck the ground near the ground troops. According to his latest scans, the ETA at the cannon was about 10 minutes from now...and that was without factoring all of the fighting above them. Rubble was starting to accumulate because of the fight, making it more difficult for the ground forces to find passable terrain.

Dolan observed the U.S.S. Normandy with a critical eye, already coming up with ways to improve it before he even stepped on the ship. However, he ignored those cravings and headed to the closest turbolift.
"Deck 6," Dolan ordered and he soon stepped off on to Deck 6, right next to the primary computer core. He moved to the closest open console and began to improve the algorithms of all of the computers networked to the computer core, resulting in an even faster processing speed, though not to the levels of bio-neural circuitry.

Raszagal jumped out of the Puma, and began grabbing photon microtorpedo launchers, and loading them into the weapons lockers on the Pelican. She also climbed onto the Puma's phaser turret, and made sure all was in order.

Dolan was about to answer Rajnus's question about the sensors when Biggins appeared on the bridge. He wondered where Biggins could have possibly beamed in from, since sensors had not picked up any other Starfleet ships in the region. Then again, they hadn't been picking up too much since they entered the vicinity of the Heraani system.
Dolan decided to answer Rajnus's question and said cautiously, "The emitter beam has improved scans of the region marginally. At least we know where the planet is now. However, I have a feeling the Heraan might be able to use this against us. From what I can tell, they could probably figure out a way to use the emitter beam to focus on their cannon on us."

Our mission is that once we hit planet side, we are to proceed to a Heraan outpost thats rumored to be in the area, from intelligence reports we have the honor of fighting against an elite heraan squad that is placed at the outpost protecting it from invaders like US!. So here is the break down, we land, and take out the base is the most expedient way possible. So that means since they have a orbital canon in place to prevent ships other then Heraani vessel's from landing, we have to blow up that cannon, then disrupt any and all jamming devices they may have to prevent communications with the ship. Once we go that then the outpost can be bombarded from orbit with relative ease. We will be taking on the base defenses as well as the elite guard themselves. So skirmishing is required, this is not a full frontal assault marines, this has to be done threw guerilla tactic's. ANY QUESTIONS?!" Balkazar asked.

Dolan barely stopped himself from rolling his eyes at Balkazar's comment. The space cannon might target slowly, but it certainly could target a small fighter...the projectile only had to nick its shields and the fighter would be sent spiralling out of control. Fortunately, most of the fighter craft were under the cannon's firing range anyway.

<Down on the marine deck, Simpson was hard at double checking and even tripple checking to make sure all the vehicles and marines had their first aid kits and such packed right and made sure all the new recruits had their first aid kits in their bags, he then gave a PADD to a private and told him to deliver it to the Col. As he saw Lilque come in, he remembered the few nights before and quickly left the marine deck before she saw him, once outside the marine deck he quickly made his way to the Sickbay>

Dolan had gotten onto Balkazar's command vehicle and looking over all of the scans of the space cannon. It was massive - it had to be at least a kilometer in both width and length and the barrel had to have been as long as the the ship. The cannon must have taken weeks to fully replicate and assemble. It was more of a massive gun emplacement than a cannon. Early scans indicated that it fired plasma-based projectiles, though it also could have fired purely kinetic-based - anything fired from the cannon had to have enough momentum to escape orbit and hit any approaching vessel, which implied extreme speeds. Dolan continued to pore over the scans, looking for design flaws as much as the design itself.

"We will be taking as much heavy weaponry we can pack on the Puma's. KEEP IN MIND! that the orbital canon WILL fire on the Normandy once we are close enough to be beamed down then the Normandy will retreat back behind friendly lines but still within communications range. As for explosives anything that will make a nice big dent from a distance. We have also been cleared to use the Power Armor to mount the heavy weapons on to use as artillery support, but they WILL be slow to move so ground support to protect them is a must. Otherwise we will use the foilage to our advantage, since its primarily forest terrain. Anything else?" Balkazar said.

Dar'Nas was preparing Engineering for the mission, the whole staff was busy completing orders and preparing to repair any damage that might occure during the short time that the ship would be exposed to weapons fire. Their destination was still far enough away that they could take their time.

After completing his sensor upgrades, Dolan decided to delay his holodeck trip and at least improve the ship's shields somewhat. He began to improve the shield emitters' processing speed so that they could vary their frequency at a more rapid pace, while at the same time trying to figure out a way to boost the shields' current power without taking away power from any other systems.

Dolan had taken his station and was scanning a nearby nebula that was an amazing sight to see. He ignored the commotion stirred up by the Captain and Lt. Brown as he continued to work. He pondered over what type of projectile the Heraani cannon would fire - most likely plasma, but who knew - and thought about asking the Captain to let him design his own weapon, something he was more familiar with than a phaser and probably pack some more punch.

Dolan replied, "Captain, it might give us a little more time if we approach the planet from the side opposite from where the cannon is. We could then enter the atmosphere and hopefully get low enough that the weapon can't target us. We then beam the marines a short ways from their destination and continue around the planet until we are on the opposite side again and we could make our escape then."

Dolan wondered why Rajnus seemed to be giving his XO the cold shoulder when they entered the ready room. Dolan didn't pursuit that trail of thought and soon began working on enhancing the sensors so that they were more efficient and could use less power while performing equally or even better than before. He hoped he would have time to visit the holodeck before the ship reached its final destination.

OOC: sorry to burst your techical manual, but according to "the Star trek encyclopedia" written by majel barrett and Michael okuda, the top speed for any Ambassador ship is Warp 9.9 in emergency situations which can be used for 12 hours max. examples being USS Horatio NCC - 10532 and the USS Excalibur NCC-26517.

Dolan finished his algorithm upgrades before he decided to see what he could accomplish from the bridge. He arrived at the bridge soon after getting in the turbolift. He gave a quick salute to the officers there before heading to the Science console and looking through what was there.

Intelligance reports that the base in not yet fully operational but is heavily guarded by both anti air turrets and a planetary defence canon. There is also a small platoon of special ops guarding the building.
Station Avalon has not picked up any activity in the planets system as its sun is emmitting radiation that is blocking our sensors. So we can only rely on the intel we have recieved. The planet is M class with mostly shrubs and small lakes covering it.
Your mission is to take the marines to the planet and destroy the base before it becomes operational. You are to stay out of the battle as much as possible as that defense cannon can cause serious damage to starships in its orbit. You are to drop them off and get to a safe distance, while also staying in communication range incase to warn the marines of any extra company.
This mission is of utmost importance. Expect casualties.

Stepping out onto the bridge, Tom nodded to the Captain and Richard before moving and taking his place at Ops, which in this case was in front of the Captain and next to Helm. "Captain. Lieutenant."
He began running the usual new-ship diagnostics, still annoyed at the happenings of earlier, but determined not to let it show.

Raszagal stowed her phaser rifle in the forward cab of the Puma, and climbed into the driver's seat. She maneuvered the Puma slowly under the tail of one of the Pelican dropships, where it would be magnetically clamped to the underside of the tail when they were ready to launch.

Raszagal struggled with getting her Khaydarin focus aligned just right. She made miniscule adjustments with a microprobe, but the alignment needed to be perfect. "One more time," she thought, "going... going... got it!"
The young Gallifreyan set down her microprobe, and finished reassembling the device. Giving it a solid toss into the air and catching it, she ignited her new khala and twirled it about her quarters for a bit, to get a feel for it. Each Gallifreyan weapon, while adhering to a standard design, was slightly different, and each had it's own distinct feel when the time for battle came again.
Raszagal sat on her customary mat, and began to meditate.

We are beginning the final mission of the current Expansion Fleet story arc, and this mission will conclude the events that have been building for the past few years, some of which began at the launch of Expansion Fleet. This mission will yield an end to the Heraan War, and will be concluding the events of the entire game.
This gives us a unique opportunity, one that we've not explored before, nor have most of the Star Trek RPG's out there. We are going to be starting a new "series" of sorts, in much the same way a new Star Trek series precedes the last. This will give everyone the opportunity to start fresh, with all new characters, new backstories, and new sub-plots. We will even be introducing a new region of space, a new Starfleet space station, and an entirely new fleet.
For the duration of the final mission, due to the extremely cooperative nature of such a finale, we will be combining the posts of all four ships, as well as those of the Starbase Avalon personnel, into a single forum, to alleviate the need to read several forums at once. This mission is to be contained in it's own forum, located at the top of the list of Expansion Fleet vessels we are all familiar with. The new forum will move no one from their previous situations, but will direct them toward the goings-on of this finale. I will be posting a list of guidelines necessary in such a forum, please read those first before posting.

(OFF: That's for the original Ambassador class. This is the Ambassador class refit, with an all new warp core, nacelles and improved SI field. Top speed for this class is still warp 9.9, but that can be held for 72 hours instead of 12.)
