Title: Mission 3: "Time is of the Essence"
Post by: Lois on November 21, 2007, 09:01:43 PM
Knowing he was no real use to the bridge crew and himself while being there he decided to make a quick walk around the bridge before heading to the mess hall.

Mark glanced over Krenn's shoulder as he walked by, he raised an eyebrow- he was never good at all that technical operations and such, that's why he took the position of Security. But it did upset him slightly that if there were ever an emergency he would only be able to operate a few of the ship's many functions.

Heading towards the turbolift he adjusted the phaser in his holster and wondered if he would go back to the acadamy and maybe try to learn something more useful.

OOC: Just pimped out my signature :P

(OFF: I never said your full name, that was narration rather than speech. All I actually spoke was "counselor".)

"I wasn't aware you were telepathic, Commander..." she said sarcastically, "but I'd rather be safe than sorry." Kelli tapped her communicator. "Ensign Mendez, organize a search party. Sweep the ship deck-by-deck, and keep your tricorders set to scan for unusual psionic signatures."

"Ma'am, if I may--"

"You may not," she snapped back calmly. "I don't have time to explain, just do it. And Mendez," she said, "keep your phaser ready and your mouth shut. We need security, not gossip. Bridge out."

Kelli realized that she probably gave the ensign severe authoritative whiplash, but right now, with a significant portion of the crew in various infirmaries, including her captain, and the possibility of covert Heraani boarding parties, she really didn't feel like chit-chatting with the junior staff.

"No Gallifreyan has ever lain blade to the flesh of a brother! And not you, nor your twisted ramblings can change that!"

Techerakh drew and lit his khala. "And I shall ensure it."

<Alexia dealt with the group she was fending off as she rushed forward deflecting bolts as she went, flipped over their heads, and severed 2 of the their heads from their bodies as she threw the remaining Heraan to the bulkheads with such force that the impact killed them>

<She lean rushed to defend the couselor from additional Heraan that rounded the bend opposite of Tech.  She quickly got to the Counselor's side just in the nick of time to deflect several bolts that were fired>

((They also dont run, its a kill you or you kill it situation with them))

He pressed firmly on the number three as he pondered more on the thought of an alternative career in starfleet. Medical? Maybe counsouling, even though that thought probably came from his experience in the public interviews he conducted.

He wandered the third deck randomly, not knowing if he was patrolling or just wasting time. He knew he wouldn't be useful until a few hours when they reach earth, maybe he should get some rest until than..

Turning around to head back to the Turbolift he noticed he was right inf ront of Keli's quarters.

OFF: I know, like you said, I'm telepathic. :-P Don't you know that from the Tiberon?

IC:

He smirks, "Yes, I am."

A few minutes pass when Lauren is commed; Phaser fire is heard in the background.

=A=Mendez to Lauren, we have hostiles on deck 5, they've already...argh!=A=

The com goes dead.

Malcolm glances at Lauren with a 'I-told-you-so' look, then runs off to deck 5, his phaser ready.

Kelli turned around to face Counselor Galan. "The captain's been incapacitated as well, counselor, though in our current state, I'm not surprised if you couldn't see him in the sea of wounded that's probably in Sickbay."

"I'm in command for now," she said, "in case you've got any questions."

( :p )

Malcolm continues to fight the Heraan; fighting for his life.

A jab, block, and swift kick sends one heraan slamming into the wall; he slides down unconcious. Another Heraan charges him and slams him into the wall where the previous Heraan lay. Malcolm could feel and hear something crack in his body, but he paid no attention. Turning around and dropping to a knee he pivoted around on his left knee and brought his right leg around and under the Heraan's calf, sending down on the floor with a thud. Malcolm then stands, lifts his knee, and pulls out his knife from his boot, then planting it in the Heraan.

Malcolm feints at another Heraan's chest with a stab of his knife, then turns and pivots to his left to avoid its block, opening it up for Alexia. She pierces it, killing it, while Malcolm nods his head in approval.

Several hours had passed, and the Evolution was still far behind the Heraani fleet. Normally, Kelli was more than willing to work past her shift rotation during crisis situations, but for the bridge crew, this was a waiting game. Waiting until they were close enough to do something... do anything.

Trying her best to put the danger to Earth out of her mind, Kelli allowed the night shift tactical officer into her station and slipped past him, into the turbolift. She keyed the number three on the keypad, and the lift moved two decks downward, opening up to that familiar junction. One left at the intersection, and another left just afterwards, and she was standing in front of the door that read "(03 | LCmdr Lauren, Kelli)". She stepped inside, tossed her uniform's outer jacket onto the chair, and plopped onto the couch.

"I was just thinking, that in theory turn our shields into a absorbation effect.  Our shields were built to in effect block beam effects from enemy ships from penetrating our hull and literally destroying us.  I was thinking we could use the shields to instead of diverting the enemy fire from us, let it hit us instead, phasors and missles and in thoery absorb that kinetic energy and phasor energy to power up our systems again.  It should take a few minutes to make the modifications but it may be possible.  But its all in thoery and I have no hard evidence that this would work, it may do more harm then good, Sir." Aaron said.

Durandal, who had been silent until now, manifested his hologram on the pedestal between the command seats. "Commander," he said, "I'm reading a second fleet incoming, approximately nineteen vessels, on an intercept course. I can't get an accurate friend/foe reading, but I do know that sensor relays have been reporting a secondary Heraani fleet on their way here."

IC:

Malcolm leans forward and whispers.

"M'am, with all due respect, please don't call me by that name. Most only know that name because they have to; Otherwise I prefer to keep my relationship to a homicidal murderer secret."

He straightens and speaks outloud, "Have we done a secondary sweep of the ship and surrounding areas? I don't mean to tell you to do your job, but I'm sensing some presences, hostile ones. I think we should check, since everything has been chaotic lately"

<Alexia turned just in time to notice those that Malcolm supposedly took down started to rise again and charged the Malcolm.  Before they could kill him, Alexia used her telekinetic thrust and threw them 20 feet down the corridor, then lept into the midst of them thrusting down as she went slaying 1 instantly, then twirled around her cloak flying in the air to distract him as she impaled him, the 3rd one tried to charge Alexia, but she was ready.  She twirled her Khala into the air and held it upside down she braced the sword between her and her forearm elbow pretty much impaling the soldier as he attempted to attack her from behind>

<She then got up and walked towards Malcolm helping him up onto his feet>

"Cmon, Malcolm.  Best get you some place safe." Alexia said as she covered him from behind as the 2 raced to safe location to drop off her charge.

Techerakh hand drifted toward his khala. He wanted to be ready, but to draw it now would provoke the deadly Heraan, and if he could avoid direct conflict, it would be for the best. "It has not been nearly long enough, warmaster."

He enters the bridge and nods at Commander Lauren.

"M'am, I checked sickbay and the other departments without being asked, and everything is set as far as best as I could tell. We'rr fully stocked and ready, no major mechanical problems. Here is a complete status report."

He hands her his PADD.

James pushed the warp engines up higher as Spock made a few adjustments on his console. "Warp 9.99 Engaged, Captain." James reported. "Timer started at 2 hours. ETA to Sector 001 is 3 hours, 14 minutes."

OFF: I know he turned into a lizard, hence why I said it had not successfully been achieved on record :P lol.

<Aaron saw Kelli come in and then he left the station to go back to the Operation console to work>

"Sir, Im picking up 42 Heraan ships.  Besides the casual ships and mass pain we will all be feeling in the next few minutes.  The entire ship is ready to be destroyed per your orders." Aaron said with a hint of humour in his statement to hide the true fact hes scared out of his mind.

<The Bridge erupted in a explosion that sent sparks and crew members flying everywhere, Aaron was thrown from his console over towards where the Captain sat but barely missing him.  Aaron looked up a tad disoriented till he got his barings and went back to his console to do a damage report>

"Captain, their was an explosion in engineering, im reading 5 deaths, 6 wounded, 4 criticals.  The explosion sent a cascade effect along the EPS conduits leading to the bridge.  We arent dead yet but give it time." Aaron said trying to ease the already huge tension on the bridge.  "Integrity is down to 20%, Aft and forward torpedoes tubes damaged, shield matrix suffered minor damage, lost half the EPS conduits, and several plasma conduits exploded.  Several crew members from engineering are being sent to sickbay with 4th degree burns.  Commander Spock is unconscious with severe wounds." Aaron said as blood trickled down from his forehead, his arm was hurting possibly broken and his left face was scarred from the sparks and fires.  Aaron just winced and kept on working, thinking women sure love men with scars was all that Aaron thought to keep his mind off the pain and his mind in the fight.

Warmaster Ar'Krakh looked at the Master, whom he knew, and the apprentice, who was of a race he had never seen before. She wielded the weapons and abilities of a Sentinel, but was not of Gallifreyan blood.

"Master Techerakh," he projected condescendingly. "It has been far too long."

<After several days Aaron came onto the bridge, his left arm was taken off due to mass injury and in its place was a cybernetic replacement.  He saluted Commander Lauren and went to take his station at Op's>

"Operations ready, Commander.  All stations and systems report repaired and ready." A stern voice came from Miller, it was as if Miller's demeanor changed over night, he was no longer the sniffling baby he once was.

Spock told Krenn and Sanchez.

(OFF: Remember that warp speed factors increase velocity exponentially. For instance, the difference between Warp 9 and Warp 9.9 is about the same as between Warp 1 and Warp 7. The higher you go, the more you increase per factor. Warp 9.975 is the fastest the Intrepid-class is rated, but we could probably push Warp 9.99 for a little bit, which would be a notable increase. Once you hit Warp 10, though, you become omni-present, existing in every location simultaneously. Suffice it to say that the hull can't take that kind of stress.)

"We had best not push our luck, Ensign. We'll be no good to Earth if arrive in pieces. Commander, if you can push the warp engines to a higher velocity, by all means, but hold back if the stress becomes too great for the hull."

"All we have is life support sir.  I can give tactical maybe 30% more power and thats it, anymore I will have to divert from engineering itself.  After that we have nothing.  Not unless....." was all Aaron said as he went back to his station to work on a few calculations.

<Aaron came out of the ready room screaming and wreathing in pain as several crewmen carried him on a stretcher while still trying to restrain him.  But the pain was too great and the only thing that made him feel slightly better was screaming.  Blood was everywhere, on his face, body, and his uniform was saturated with his blood as he was taken to the turbolift.  Their was a nice blood trail leading from the ready room to the Turbolift where the crewmen were.  The EMH had to sedate him quickly before moving on>

Ar'Krakh squinted at the master. "I should expect it, however, considering I was the one that turned your apprentice. It's too bad she never had a master that could properly train her."

He watched Techerakh closely, noticing the rage swelling beneath his discipline. "Don't get me wrong, she resisted at first. But before I broke her, she was on the floor, screaming in pain, as I raped her mind. I would have killed her, but she offered herself to us too quickly."

"Yes sir, firing phasers" Mark responded, sweeping his hands across the controls of the console. Oh god, how glad he was that he payed attention at the academy. The ship shook violently as The Evolution took another hit, Mark held on yet again.

"Commander, we've destroyed the targeted ship's weapons array and impulse drive, I can-" He jerked back his hand as the console suddenly let out a few random sparks.

Unfortunately, Master Techerakh wasn't fast enough to stop the plasma grenade.

The glowing sphere landed right on the threshold of the room Alexia and the Starfleet counselor were taking refuge in. He tried to get to it in time, but he was already too late and any closer would have killed him. The grenade exploded, not close enough to kill his comrades, but close enough to cause dangerous concussive force. He watched the two fall to the floor unconscious, and quickly slew the grenadier.

As soon as Techerakh was about to move to help his allies, he felt a powerful psionic presence behind him, and it was familiar. He turned, and his fears were confirmed.

It was Ar'Krakh, Warmaster of the Heraan.

"Greetings, commander," came the kiir's hail. "Master Techerakh is currently resting in his chambers, but wishes us to express his personal condolences on the loss of your honored fallen. We are to escort you personally back to Starbase Avalon."

<Crashing to the floor, Alexia started to groan as she opened up her eyes and looked around seeing the starfleet officer laying nearby.  She rolled slowly and got up rubbing her head making sure she didnt suffer any concussion.  Fortunately for her she didnt suffer any great harm as the door took the major brunt of the force.  Alexia felt the psionic vibrations of a terrible Heraan nearby, she felt these same vibrations before she knew what was about to happen and this time she wouldnt stand by and see it happen again>

<Turning quickly she made sure Malcolm was alright then spoke to him quickly and harshly>

"Stay here in this room and do not leave it under any circumstances!.  If you value your life you will stay here and do NOT! be seen or even heard and maybe youll have a chance of surviving." she said gripping Malcolm's arm in her firm grip, and released it roughly as she left the room and ignited her Khala.

<Once she exited the room she say HIM!.  Ar'Krakh the Warmaster of the Heraan>

<She quickly placed herself on the opposite side of the Warmaster hopefully giving Master Techerakh and herself a flanking advantage>

<She stood there breathing heavily as she tried to calm her breathing down and rest her body knowing full well this is the fight for their lives>

John looked at his instruments, and then his shoulders sagged at the readings. "Several hours, Captain. It's in the double figures...." he slowed his speech at the end of his last sentence, a thought rising to the forefront of his mind.

"Sir, I was working with a few simulators on my last ship, on achieving higher warp speeds than we can conventionally. There were a lot of structural integrity issues and a hell of a lot of turbulence in the simulations, but an Intrepid-class is a lot more streamlined, smaller, and up-to-date than a Galaxy-class.

"I may be able to take us to Warp 10 for a few hours only. Any longer and we'll start seeing some very.....negative effects. I will warn you though, there aren't any documented successful travels at such speeds."

"Oh yeah, I remember," Mark tried his best not to look clueless as he sat down.

He scanned the room with his eyes, noting the fact that the setting seemed to take place in an extremely old time period- judging by the clothing and use of lighting.

"Does.. anyone else know about this?" He asked, casting a nervous glance at the holodeck entrance for a quick second.

A minute later he entered the havoc bridge and quickly took his position as tactical.

An unmistakable British accent resounded on the bridges of every ship in the fleet. "This is Captain Picard of the U.S.S. Enterprise," it said. "We should be able to handle the remainder of the Heraani fleet."

Nineteen ships rocketed toward the Heraan in tandem, dozens of quantum and photon torpedoes spewing forth from their formation.

Ar'Krakh jumped into the air, deflecting a strike from Techerakh while kicking Alexia right in the torso, throwing her violently into the bulkhead. "Your companion is a bold one, Techerakh,", he projected.

By this point, the wound in Ar'Krakh's leg had already healed, leaving nothing but a small mark in his leg armor.

"You'll have to do better than that, whelp."

(OFF: The Heraan don't have throats. They communicate telepathically, don't breathe oxygen, and don't have mouths.)

Techerakh noticed that the human counselor had bitten off a little more than he could chew, and grabbed two of the Heraan with his telekinesis. One of them was pulled close enough to impale on the end of his khala, while the other was slammed to a bulkhead. The dazed soldier tried to regain his footing, but the Gallifreyan master hit him with a psionic pulse, causing massive impact trauma and crushing him once more into the bulkhead.

Several Heraan came around a bend in the corridor and began to fire, slowing Techerakh's progress as he deflected plasma fire with his weapon.

Techerakh's breaths were heavy and shallow. "I must not let him escape," he forced himself to say, trying to get up. He only stopped when he was kept down by Alexia. "I can't let him win. Not again." Techerakh paused for a moment to cough. "He took my apprentice, and now he's taken my life."

The stricken master slowly fell unconscious, on the verge of death.

Kelli laughed, with a surprised expression on her face. "I'll pretend you didn't forget, since I know you got my message on your panel. No big deal, you're here now, so it's fine."

They strolled back to the turbolift, and took it down to Deck Seven. There, Kelli punched a few commands into the panel outside Holodeck Two, and the hatch opened up to the room beyond. She led Mark into the holodeck, and as soon as the door sealed back up, she said "Computer, enable program."

The entire hologrid transformed into an late 1940's restaurant, and Kelli's civilian clothes faded into a long black party gown, and Mark's into an appropriately formal tuxedo.

"I figured," Kelli said, "Since we never really got to finish up last time, we'd best make up for it this time." As soon as she finished, a waiter began making his way toward them.

The Evolution came to a stop along with seventeen other Starfleet vessels, all of varying age and design. A comm-whistle sounded and Admiral Lewiston's face appeared on the viewscreen.

"This is Admiral Lewiston. Listen closely. The Heraani fleet has breached local Mars space, and the Federation Eighth Fleet is having a hell of a time stopping them. We're ordered to come in and execute a flanking attack, and catch them from behind. Their target, while ultimately Earth itself, I imagine, is the Utopia Planetia shipyards in Mars orbit, and the production facilities on the moons Phobos and Deimos. Our job is to stop them before they can destroy these facilities. I could go on a longer-winded tirade, but I'm sure you get the point. All ships, set course for Mars space at Warp Nine immediately. Lewiston out."

The captain sat back after absorbing their orders. "Well, Ensign," he said, "you heard him. Engage at Warp Nine. Tactical, divert full power to shields and weapons."

Malcolm charges one of the Heraani quickly, and deals it a quick disarming blow.

Weaponless, and surprised by his sudden speed, the Heraani soldier stands stunned. Dodging and whirling, Malcolm engages the Heraani; He strikes swiftly.

A swift punch aimed at its midsection becomes a feint, as Malcolm drops to the floor in an effort to trip, but the Heraani jumps , flipping backwards and evading Malcolm.

He pursues it, a look of concentration etched on his face as familiar as the Mona Lisa.

Several Heraani converge on Malcolm.

Malcolm jabs at ones throat, quickly incapacitating it.

Techerakh flipped over Ar'Krakh's head, grabbed his shoulder arch, and landed behind him, holding him in place and trying to bring his khala in toward the alien's front. Unfortunately, Ar'Krakh already had his bracer blade in place, holding the khala away.

Suddenly, Ar'Krakh ducked, and rolled forward. Techerakh had not expected it, and was thrown a meter or two down the corridor by the rolling action.

It was only a split-second after Techerakh hit the deck before he was back on his feet, and the battle continued.

"Slow to impulse, Ensign."

The Evolution came to a stop on the outer edges of the Sol system. Sanchez pressed a button on the panel between his own chair and the first officer's. This opened a channel to the lead escort, who promptly answered and appeared on the screen.

"This is Captain Sanchez. How goes the defense preparations?"

The lead captain had a morbid expression. "Not well," he said. "They've already breached the inner worlds. Jupiter Station is a smoking wreck, they've got us totally by surprise. Admiral Lewiston has a secondary fleet amassing on the dark side of Saturn, and we'll be hitting the Heraan from behind as soon as we rendezvous with them. We'll talk later there, Captain."

The screen returned to the starscape, where the planet Neptune could be seen in the far distance. "Red alert, all hands to battlestations. Helm, set a course for Saturn, warp factor two."

As he stepped into Engineering, he began yelling orders to the crews there. "You! Get the wounded to sickbay! Ensign! Take him and her and isolate the weapons from the shield grid! You four! Start setting up an EMP field to protect the weapons. You two; you're with me."

"Er, Sir, but-"

"No time for arguing! The Captain says I'm in charge down here so do as you're told! NOW!" He didn't wait for a response, and lead the two that he had called over earlier over to the main power control near the base of the warp core.

"We need to start transferring power from the core, and divert at least ten percent to the deflector."

"But Sir, if the core loses too much power, it'll shut down, and we'll be stuck without warp speed for hours trying to get it back online."

"I know crewman, but we don't have a choice."

For some reason, she couldn't get a lock on the Heraan warmaster. The other two, though, were certainly there. Rushing her fingertips over the console, she got a lock on them and energized.

"Alright ladies and gents." Miller said as he pushed a button on his console and beep was heard.

"Everything seems to be working.  CRAP!." was all Miller said as a console near him sent sparks from it.  "Captain, we have 4 EPS conduits down but other then that it seems to be working, deck 2 lost another EPS conduit, but dont worry its not effecting the systems we are using.  Their are some residual effects but it is working for the time being.  The Deflector is working and guess what.  They are firing on us.  BRACE FOR IMPACT!." Miller said as he braced himself, Seconds passed and a beep was heard at his console.

"We are absorbing energy from everything around us.  Including kinetic energy from their missle weapons and their phasors are being absorbed.  If they keep firing on us we should be back up to full capacity soon." Miller said sighing with relief.

Yaxara had fought with many Heraan since the ship had been attacked. She'd managed to get out with just bruises, but now, she was confident she wouldn't pass that well.

Her current opponent was a strong one, succesfully repelling every single attack she tried. He even somehow blocked her phaser attacks. The only reason she was still alive were her Betazoid telephatic capabilities. The Heraan weren't easy ones to read, but they were readable, so she could predict his actions. She only feared because it seemed he could to the same with her.

Damn, she thought, I am a diplomatics officer, not a combatanat! Finally, she managed to shoot the Herran, but only seconds after he gave her a strong punch, causing her to land onto a console hard.

But as she lied on the floor, trying to fight away the dizziness, an idea hit her-they needed to contact someone, they needed help! If she could only...raising her head, Yaxara realized that everyone was too preoccupied with the Heraan warmaster to pay any attention to her...and she realised that the console she'd just hit was the communications console.

Grabbing it and pulling herself up, Yaxara let out a sigh, attempting to focus on the commands before her. She was going to have to use the secure channels, so the Heraan could not intercept the message...she could remember the code...and yes! She was in. Now the message...

"To all Federation starships that receive this message...this is the U. S. S. Evolution. We are under attack by the Heraan and require immediate assistance. I am transmitting our coordinates to you...please, we require immediate assistance!"

After the message was transmitted, she dropped back onto the floor, trying to catch her breath.

Ar'Krakh stepped briskly toward the bothersome human, and absorbed the phaser beams with his energy blade. He let his mind reach out and grab the creature, and draw him closer.

"Has anyone ever told you," he projected into Malcolm's mind, "that you are extremely annoying?" The psychic emphasis on the word "extremely" was enough that it caused the lights to flicker slightly.

He haphazardly tossed the counselor aside into the bulkhead, hoping that maybe a broken bone or two would straighten the human out. His elite guard gathered alongside him, and made their way back to their stealth boarding craft, where they proceeded to leave the area under cloak.

Kelli had just finished fighting off the rest of the Heraan in her area, having fallen far behind the Gallifreyans, as the rest of the invaders suddenly left the ship.

"Lauren to bridge," she said, panting from battle. "Set a course for McKinley Station, and initiate docking procedures."

-------

Several days passed, while the Evolution was hurried through the repair queue at the starbase in high orbit of the capital-world of the Federation. It took them only four days to get pushed through the line (due to their distance from their starbase of origin) and for the ship to be restored. Captain Sanchez still remained in Sickbay, although his condition was stabilized and he was able to maintain a decent level of consciousness, if fleeting.

In the meantime, on the recommendations of both Captain Sanchez and Admiral Lewiston, Starfleet Command had promoted Kelli to the rank of full Commander, and given her the permanent position of the ship's first officer. In the captain's current state, she also was forced into the position of acting captain. This had the expected side effect of leaving the position of Chief Tactical Officer available. Upon review of his service record, Starfleet also approved the promotion of Ensign Mark Lois to the full Lieutenant, and his permanent assignment to Tactical.

"All stations, report in," came her first order as executive officer. "Krenn, bring fusion reactors online and hail McKinley for departure clearance."

(OFF: Although I'm usually up for plot twists, we REALLY need to get this mission wrapped up.)

The Evolution dropped back into normal space, and the Prodigal Son released it's tractor beam on the Starfleet ship. As the two ships made their way at impulse to Starbase Avalon, Kelli noticed a second Gallifreyan cruiser in orbit of the station. "Wow," she exclaimed, "that looks important."

The ship banked lazily as it turned into the massive space doors on the outer edge of the spacedock. The helmsman steered the Intrepid-class ship smoothly into position, and a docking umbilical extended to meet them. Most of the external lights on the ship went dark, and the warp nacelle grilles, which normally shone a brilliant blue, went dark, becoming a non-luminescent grey.

Kelli stood from the command seat. "All stations, stand down, she said. "Slave the ship's systems to Avalon, and power down the fusion reactors."

Kelli wasn't usually a spiteful person, but something inside her made her happy to see the Heraani ships destroyed, beyond just the sense of safety that was returning to the crew.

As the last of the Heraani ships exploded into a field of golden flecks, Kelli sat at the command chair and pressed the comm button. "All hands, this is Lieutenant Commander Lauren. Stand down red alert, and prepare for docking at McKinley Station."

---===Important Message from Expansion Fleet Administration===---

We are beginning the final mission of the current Expansion Fleet story arc, and this mission will conclude the events that have been building for the past few years, some of which began at the launch of Expansion Fleet. This mission will yield an end to the Heraan War, and will be concluding the events of the entire game.

This gives us a unique opportunity, one that we've not explored before, nor have most of the Star Trek RPG's out there. We are going to be starting a new "series" of sorts, in much the same way a new Star Trek series precedes the last. This will give everyone the opportunity to start fresh, with all new characters, new backstories, and new sub-plots. We will even be introducing a new region of space, a new Starfleet space station, and an entirely new fleet.

For the duration of the final mission, due to the extremely cooperative nature of such a finale, we will be combining the posts of all four ships, as well as those of the Starbase Avalon personnel, into a single forum, to alleviate the need to read several forums at once. This mission is to be contained in it's own forum, located at the top of the list of Expansion Fleet vessels we are all familiar with. The new forum will move no one from their previous situations, but will direct them toward the goings-on of this finale. I will be posting a list of guidelines necessary in such a forum, please read those first before posting.

The new forum for the finale is located here: http://www.expansionfleet.com/cgi-bin....F;f=308

Thanks,
EF Admins

=/\="Clearance granted, Evolution." =/\= came the cheery voice of the station commander. =/\="Thanks for your help back there, and good luck. McKinley out."=/\=

The docking clamps on the Intrepid-class' hull released, and the ship swam smoothly out of dock.

"We're clear of the station, Commander." he reported.

Mark exited the turbolift and quickly walked to his stationed post. Glancing around uneasily, he wondered if he was the only one who didn't know what was going on. That has always worried him everytime they went to red alert when he was eating something, wither or not he was well informed of the situation.

Looking across the bridge he found Keli at her tactical station,  running his hand through his hair he tried to catch her eye without making it look obivous.

"All right."

Yaxara grabbed the phaser with a faint smile. She had not even realized hers had been lost in combat with the Herran. Removing it from stun and setting it to maximum, she turned towards the turbolift.

"I am going to use the Jeffreys tubes. The Herrans aren't supposed to be hanging around there. " Another idea occurred to her, "We can simply transport them into outer space and get rid of them right away."

She didn't bother reading Malcolm's mind to see his opinions of this. It didn't really matter. This was war. And war brought on casualties. Those always looked better on the other side. Without waiting for his reply, she jumped into the tube.

It took her about ten minutes to reach transporter room. During her 'trip', she didn't encounter a single Herran, even though she could hear sounds of fighting through the walls. Crawling out and reaching the console, she tapped her commbadge.

"Grax to Malcolm. I'm at the position." While waiting for his reply, she managed to stabilise a forcefield around the transporter room with a few quick moves of her fingers.

(OFF: This is Admiral Karelia. Due to his absence, I'll be posting for Captain Sanchez until further notice.)

Captain Sanchez sat quietly in his ready room, filing a report at his laptop terminal. "These reports are so boring," he thought to himself. "It's always crew manifest this, supply inventory that... it sometimes seems like Starfleet wants me to suffer! A little excitement wouldn't hurt anyone, honestly."

"Captain to the bridge," came the voice of Commander Lauren over the comm channel. Randall set his PADD down on the desk and stepped out onto the bridge.

"Report?"

"We're receiving a distress call," said Lauren. "It's on a Starfleet carrier wave."

This piqued Sanchez's interest immediately. "Source?"

Lauren looked up from her console. "Deep Space Five, sir. Near the border between Federation territory and the Expansion Sector."

The captain took his seat and looked to the officer ahead of him. "Helmsman," he said, "Set a course for the Ivor system, maximum warp."

"I guess they were right," Randall thought to himself. "Be careful what you wish for..."

Kelli raced from her post and, in desperation, actually vaulted over the rail behind the captain's chair, landing beside the captain.

"Captain! Sir, can you hear me?"

There was no answer. Kelli drew her phaser and set it to full, using it to cut the bulk of the beam away. She then lifted the more manageable remainder from Sanchez.

"Ensign Kirsch," she called to the science officer, "get the captain to Sickbay, pronto!" She then stood up and turned to the captain's chair and pressed a communications button. "Bridge to Ensign Lois," she said, "we need you up here. The captain's out of commission, and I need a temporary tactical officer."

He shoved James gently, trying to awake him. With no success he stood up, suddenly feeling a wave of dizziness he reached over to grab the wall to steady himself. Glancing at his hand he saw it was covered with blood from his forehead.

Blah blah blah he fell and collapsed beside Krenn.

"Aye Sir!" James said, turning in his chair to face the helm. His hands darted across the controls - he had always preferred to pilot a starship manually in sublight. The Evolution banked quickly but graciously, and sped faster towards Earth. James tapped a few keys, and ran his hand up one of the meters, raising the Warp Speed to the Emergency Maximum level, then keyed the "Initialise" button.

"Maximum warp engaged, Captain!" he said, monitoring the warp field.

It was odd that after being transferred from the Home Fleet around Earth to Expansion Fleet that he was now on a mission back to Earth, he reflected.

"STOP!"

The resounding voice seemed to come from nowhere, and echoed through the entire deck. A robed alien shimmered into view, wielding two swirling blades of pure energy. The alien leaped at the Heraan that was about to execute Commander Lauren, and the two blades he carried ran the alien through cleanly.

Three companions appeared, and each held a single blade identical to that of their master. The four warriors cleared the immediate area of Heraan in a matter of moments, taking very little injury themselves.

The lead warrior helped Lauren up, and brought her back into the cover of the access junction.

"I apologize for our lack of punctuality," he said succinctly, removing his hood.

Yaxara felt someone pulling her away, and she nodded her head at his question. She was alright. Even if she wasn't a true fighter, her temper was what got her through combat situations...and it did so very well. The Betazoid could still recall the huge, dead Herran she'd left on Deck 12. Nobody in their right mind would've believed she'd killed him.
Yaxara followed Malcolm, because he was right about that one-they had to head to the bridge. Not that he'd ever said that out loud, but he'd thought it. That was enough for a Betazoid. Most people hated when their minds were being read, though, so Yaxara had learned not to mention information acquired that way in front of the...'object', to say so. Now, however, she spoke;
"Good idea-We should head to the bridge and attempt to regain control...transport the Herrans off our ship."

Travel through slipspace was as monotonous as that of extended warp travel. Just a continual blue corridor, and the slight sway of the Gallifreyan cruiser ahead of them. Luckily for Lauren, her shift was over soon enough, and she retreated to her quarters.

Setting down at her table, Kelli pulled her notebook console closer and tapped a few keys. "First officer's personal log," she began, "stardate 61153.7. This is my first log entry as first officer of the Evolution, and I can't say I like the circumstances in which I got the job. Not only was the captain severely injured in the recent battle, but Commander Harf was reported as missing. No doubt the Heraan snagged him on their way off of the ship. I've heard stories about the Heraani detention cells. Most don't make it a week... pause recording."

She hung her head. "Q'apla, commander," Kelli said softly, a small tear forming in her eye. "Continue recording."

"I am sure Morga will go to Sto-vo-Kor with honor. No one was more deserving. In any case, I've been serving as acting captain ever since Randall was hurt, and I'd be more excited about command if it weren't for the fact that my captain and friend is still fighting for his life in Sickbay. What a way to start off a promotion, huh?"

Kelli paused for a moment, and hit a button on her console with passive frustration. The computer closed and saved the log, as the commander turned down the lights and climbed into bed.

Sanchez interrupted the frantic commander. "Slow down. Tell me what happened."

"They've sent a fleet towards Federation space, and have already breached our lines! They're headed for Earth!"

"Earth?" Sanchez repeated, shocked. "Do they plan to make it past the whole of Starfleet?"

The commander finished giving a PADD to a subordinate, then turned back to the screen. "They were extremely fast, Captain. Only if Starfleet is lucky, will they be able to gather a large enough defense fleet in time. I would have sent our own defense vessels after them, but they were destroyed or crippled in the attack. Techerakh engaged his psionic camouflage again and slid into the corridor, nothing but a near-imperceptible warp in the light betraying his location. He crept up to an intersection, and saw the Heraan around the corner. He moved silently and swiftly, and moved behind one of the soldiers.

The master then drew his khala, and it appeared as a blade hovering in midair. He dropped his camouflage, and swept his blade through the soldier. As his allies began to fire, Techerakh blocked the plasma bolts, their cohesion being dissipated or reflected when they struck the Gallifreyan sword.

Techerakh then drew his second khala and threw it, spinning, at the Heraan at the end of the hall. The blade killed one of the aliens, but the other had time to activate his bracer blade and knock it out of Techerakh's telekinetic control.

The Heraan and the Gallifreyan closed, and met blades in the middle of the corridor. Techerakh was many times the superior, however, and was able to sever the Heraan's weapon arm and slice him at the waist.

The transporter was not working completely, but it seemed to be functioning. Throwing her long, red locks back and moving them away from her face, the Betazoid tampered with the console in front of her. Finally, all ten Heraan were displayed.

"I got a lock on them," She said with relief, but still tense, "Energizing."

Setting the coordinates somewhere in outer space, she intiated the energizing sequence.

Techerakh could barely stand, and his vision was beginning to blur. He drew his khala and began to chase after Ar'Krakh, but was unable to keep his footing and fell to the deck, his khala clattering down along with him.

Malcom runs down to engineering, he checks the status and sees that something has stopped the vents from venting.

=A= Malcom to Miller, something's wrong and the vents are not venting. I'm gonna go in and check.=A=

Malcolm dons a suit and slips into the bay, to find out what is wrong.

As Kelli calibrated the ventral shield harmonics, she noticed Mark leave the turbolift and pass by her station. A moment later, after he had made it to his seat, she noticed him trying desperately to get her attention. Unable to hold back a smile, she winked at him, hoping that no one else was noticing. Finally, an idea entered her mind.

After pressing a few controls, she heard Mark's console beep slightly. No one else would take notice, but she knew it was coming, so she could hear it.

Time for a bit of fancy flying... James thought to himself. To his knowledge, not many, if any, people had attempted what he was about to do in such a large ship, but he was confident in his skills.

He sent the ship into a contant roll, completing a full circle in an average of 6 seconds, and then concentrating hard on the controls sent the ship swooping through the battlefield, over and around other ships, all the while spinning. =/\="Helm to Engineering, try and keep our structural integrity up!"=/\= He didn't have time to be polite or explain to Engineering what he was doing, trying to keep the ship from crashing into another and keep it in one piece was  taking up all his concentration.

James hit the manoeuvring thrusters, turning the ship a full 180 degrees while not altering their course or speed at all. "Ship facing about!"

Kelli brushed herself off, and grabbed her rifle. She made a point to thank Techerakh once this was over; it wasn't the first time he'd saved her life.

"Sounds good to me." She tapped her communicator. "Security teams, we have unconfirmed tangoes on Deck Five. Move to intercept, and a watch your backs."

Time seemed to stand still as Techerakh and Ar'Krakh circled one another. The Heraan that stood before him was the most powerful of their kind, the Gallifreyan knew, and was expertly trained in all fields of combat. However, Techerakh knew that he himself was one of Gallifrey's best, and the outcome o a battle of these proportions could not be predicted.

Ar'Krakh struck first, but Techerakh readily parried, and counter-attacked, but was similarly held back. Their battle began cautiously, but grew in both speed and ferocity, until there was nothing that could stop them.

"You are bold, Heraan," Techerakh said through the strain of combat, "to attack so far from your territory. These humans could destroy this ship, and you with it."

"Give me a hand, Ensign. We've got more targets than I can handle. Krenn, keep the ship rolling, or else we'll rely too much on specific phaser banks."

Kelli targeted a pair of photon torpedoes, and released them simultaneously. The limited guidance system on the torpedoes managed to be just enough, and the torpedoes struck one of the small Heraani corvettes in the aft section, and obliterated their rear shields.

"Sir! I have some Engineering experience. Let me go help down there - unless we get this working the helm's dead anyway." James called to the Captain. After the explosion in Engineering, they were obviously going to be low on people down there, and they would need everyone they could get their hands on.

Malcolm runs in with several officers armed with phaser rifles and other weapons.

"Alexa, take him and go now! We'll hold him the best we can while you take Techerakh to safety"

Malcolm and the officers blanket the Heraan master with phaser rifle fire and a few officers toss grenades. Explosions reverberate and sight becomes an unecessary sense. The Heraan master staggers back, surprised by the sudden onslaught. Never-the-less, he weaves his way with his green bracer blazing, sending two officers flying backwards, mortally wounded.

There is a time to measure, and a time to act; that was what the grand master meant. He thought.

Malcolm closes his eyes, focusing. Seconds later he brings his righ arm up as if to strike the Heraan master from a distance and sends a psychokinetic blast towards him. It knocks the master off his feet.

Malolm slowly makes his way through the bay,  able to hear Lauren but ignoring her for the time being. Approaching the warp core he spies what appears to be a bright, luminescent green blog standing standing near it, with an appendage attached to he core itself.

"What is going on here?" He thought.

Tilting his head in curiousity, he cautiously approached the being. It seemed to be draining the core through a small hole in it. It swiftly turned, or at least what Malcolm thought was turning, and made it's way swiftly towards him.

It changed form as it approached was now a large vicious looking feral like creature.

All of a sudden, Malcolm was assaulted by a powerful telepathic blast from the being as the being lunged for him, causing him to stagger back a bit and collapse backward, hitting his head severly against a railing. The pain - mental, physical and emotional - he felt could not put into words. It caused him to just scream out in pain.

The creature lunged at him and ended up on top of Malcolm, snarlying and biting.

Malcolm passes out...

((Okay let's.. get this exciting))

As both sides opened fire upon each other the entire ship shook violently within the first few seconds of the battle. Mark ran forward from the wall to grab hold of the closest console to stop himself from being thrown around. He gritted his teeth in anger that he couldn't be any more helpful espically when major history is being made.

Mark leaned over the console he had the death grip on to view the panal, "Captain, we're being targeted by approximately three ships, shields are holding!"

"Lets see, we will need to transfer power from the warpcore itself since I doubt we will be going into warp anytime soon." he said working at his station.  "Alright, now we need to boost the deflector another 10% power, link it to the shields as an extra shield buffer and hopefully this will allow us to absorb enemy fire, if not we blow out atleast half the EPS conduits and we are dead in space and hopefully the weapons wont be destroyed.  So I suggest you isolate the weapon systems away from the shield grid and have the weapon systems protected by a EMP field.  That should hopefully keep away residual energy." Aaron said outloud as he worked since he did his best work talking to someone but no one.

"Go, Ill catch up." Alexia said as she tried to recover.
