Drex gets alittle concerned.

'Why aren't they answering?'

"How many lifesigns are on the station Major?"

*Incoming Special Communication From Kennedy Base*

Reeds face came onto the screen.

"I wanted to see on the progress of your mission. There have been changed since you left. Our own General Mason has retired. Leaving myself in charge with another as XO. If you think you can do no more with your mission for lack of tasks or lack of crew you may return to the station. Hopfully we can gain active crew and give a new mission. Good Luck."

For those of you not in the know, Mr. Guiss and General Mason will be leaving the Board for a short time- up to 2 months at last prediction.  I am hopeful that they will return much sooner, but the Ferengi have them at their mercy with their high internet rates.

Therefore, in the interests of everyone, we will have to post with the assumption that Sven is here after he leaves.  When he comes back, he can read up on what his physical form was up to while he was on the astral plane.  I don't think we'll kill him off... hehehe... j/k!

Salen nods in answer to Sven's suggestion and remarks that he has reviewed Movack's away team recommendation and the information that Guiss and Trell have given him so far.  "It is time to act," he says. "Assemble your team, Ensign, because I have decided that the activity we have seen is far too blatent to be ignored.  We're going to attack and board the Romulan ship.  Stealth will be our prime method of attack.  Movack, you will beam over to the Romulan ship and create a diversion.  Do some damage and, above all, do not get caught.  The rest of your team will stop the vessel and render it impossible to escape, to be destroyed, or to be cloaked.  Speed is essential.  If you fail we may not be able to retrieve you.

"Agent Guiss, send a message to Starfleet detailing our current plan and copy it to the Dragon.  If we need assistance, I want the Fleet to be ready.  The Romulans would not act so openly unless they believed they were too strong to be defeated- their arrogance will be their undoing if we can help it.  Ok, to your posts.  Movack- you have ten minutes to prep your team.  No augmentation will be necessary for this mission- get in, get out and get going- got it?"

The Blackfire approaches a large planetoid in disputed space.  Far from the system's sun it appears to be a dark and inhospitable place on the viewscreen.  However, this is where the signal came from and this is where the fun really begins.

"Helm: Begin sensor sweep of the planet.  Jog our orbit so as to cover the planet's surface within the day but not to be in a straight line for too long.  If something is there we must not present them with a target- even cloaked we cannot be entirely sure of success."

Salen's head jerks around as the yellow alert lighting starts.  "Report.  What did you find?"

*Once he recieved his orders he initiated them with a Vulcans work ethic, though he was not Vulcan*

*The ship moved to a standard orbit, a bit closer to the station*

Guiss: Commander, standard orbit achieved sir.

Sara May: Sensors indicate two life forms aboard

Tom Anderson: Confirmed, sensor output is at maximum.

Guiss: All Stop.

Tom Anderson: I have a target lock on one of the Romulans aboard the station, shall I initiate transport Commander?

Sara May: Right away sir

*She begins a sensor sweep of the area*

There are no signs of anything strange, but I am detecting massive amounts of neutrinos. As you may know sir, Romulans use neutrinos in their cloak. Also, there is a class 12 nebula within 2LY of this spot that emits large amounts too.  I recommend that we prepare a scan with the main deflector. This new scan could possibly uncover any ships in the area.

Guiss: Sir, you should know that the Dragon is nearing some type of celestial body and they have an away team on the surface, our course and speed will give us an ETA of three hours.

Trell stops what he is doing and looks at Commander Salen.  He says, "From what I can see here, your Klingon is right- there is definite transporter activity.  How unfortunate we cannot tell if it was organic or not, or if someone teleported on or off the ship.

Far be it from me to dictate, Commander, but if I were you I would have destroyed that vessel a long time ago and persued it's companion.  What are you going to do now?"

The Blackfire remains cloaked as it shadows the Romulan ship.  An ensign handles the helm very well as Salen considers drumming his fingers on his chair out of impatience.  'No,' he reasons to himself, 'I do not want to seem anxious to the bridge crew.  Let me act calm.  Calm, but alert.'
Title: Mission 2: Possibility of more Romulans
Post by: Jorgen Salen on September 17, 2004, 07:33:08 PM
The bridge crew comes alive as the planetoid is swept with the most sophisticated sensors available to Federation starships.

"Mr. Raynor and Dr. Goddard, please assist Nyssa Grant in the sensor sweep of the planetoid.  If there is any chance the Romulan Coalition has a base in disputed space this is our first chance of finding it."

"Alexico, please report to Chief Engineer John Carter in Engineering.  I believe he is working on sensor modifications to trace Romulan Coalition cloaking trails.  Perhaps the two of you will have better luck in picking up a virtual trail."

"Lt. Andrews, please check on the Romulan Coalition prisoners in the Brig and make sure they are secure and comfortable.  If you can persuade them to tell us the location of their hidden base or bases, so much the better."

"Drake, can you try to smooth Romulan Ambassador Trell's feathers?  I believe he's in the guest quarters.  He didn't get on well with Ensign Movack.  After you've sorted the Ambassador, report in and I'll take a much needed rest period."

This could be the result of some sort of unseen subspace phenomenon, or it could be evidence of malfunctioning Romulan field actuators. There could be some sort of cloaked facility or probe, however, if that is the case, they will undoubtedly know of the malfunction and our presence may have already been discovered."

Trell moves his head a fraction and smiles to indicate that Salen's point is well taken.  Now he becomes very stiff and formal as he turns to Movack.

"If I may be permitted to examine your fine console further?"  He reaches across to point to a display and says, "This is a tight-beam transmission.  You are not getting static, you are getting the feedback from the reflection of the signal.  If the receiver of this message were there, he would turn the equipment to face the source- thus eliminating this ghost transmission.  This is a standard coded transmission, but because the receiver is not properly tuned I would surmise that either the recipient is dead-or shall soon be dead for dereliction of duty.  Had he done his duty, your ship would never have registered this signal unless you happened to move directly between it and its source."

Trell smiled faintly and moved beside the captain's chair.  "Your question now is, do you persue the source of the signal, or do you investigate the errant recipient?  Your decision, Commander."

"This ship, Ambassador, is too small for us to bother with at this time.  We're after bigger game."

Salen turns to Movack, "Ask the members of your team to report to my quarters for a mission brief in five minutes, yourself and Mr. Guiss included."  He gets up to leave and says, "You have the bridge, Lieutenant Brodie.  Keep us away from any large moving objects, especially Romulans, and notify me if the situation changes via commlink."  Salen leaves to his quarters.

=^= Jorgen Salen to Ken Garcia (Secure) =^=

"I have spoken with the Romulans and the away team.  Your crew will be beamed aboard forthwith.  Romulan Agent Gri Tall will be on the Dragon, and Romulan Ambassador Trell will be on the Blackfire.  We have decided to split the area to be searched in half since we have two ships.  The most likely areas are on the attached starcharts (see attachment).  Your ship will take the area of the Gallosian asteroid belt with emphasis on M3619 asteroid because it is the largest, and on the large planetoids on the other side of the T'Hi Nebula.  The Blackfire is traveling to the Boruun System and the gas giant of Psi-Epsilon Gert.  Be careful.

=^= Transmission Ends =^=

OFF: I am copying this message so that some questions will be answered before our meeting in my quarters.  The new crewmembers should also note that this ship will be cloaked while exploring the aforementioned areas.

Sven walked over to the replicator and asked it to produce a small cup of coffee. The replicator did its job like it was supposed to do.

He looked over to Doctor Cassidy and back to Tom Anderson, seeing that they seemed to understand what Commander Salen was talking about.

He took a sip of his drink and started to ask his question "Commander, if we are to infiltrate this Romulan base, should we not have some special secretive weapons?"

Tom looked at Sven with a curious look "Secretive weapons, Sven?"
Yeah, you know, like a special Romulan based disruptor style weapon or maybe something stronger that our ship can disguise itself as." Sven said to Tom. He looked over to Cmdr. Salen "What I mean is that if we needed to we should have the ability to make it look like we are something other than Starfleet"

Title: Mission 2: Possibility of more Romulans

On the main viewer the bridge crew watches the Romulan ship start to get under way.  Suddenly it stops and begins to list to port and veer off toward the Blackfire.

"Helm, hard to Starboard!" says Salen.  The Blackfire narrowly misses the Romulan ship.

"Captain, " says an ensign at communications, "The Romulans have sent out a repeating message.  It's a distress call!"

Salen is glad that the away team seems to be making swift progress, but the mission is jeapordized by this distress call.

"Jam their message, Ensign.  Helm, keep us in range of the away team." He turns to address Cymeinfoll, "I may need you to send an engineering team to repair the Romulan ship enough to get it to Federation space.  Choose a small away team and prepare to beam over in a couple minutes."
Cymeinfoll leaves the bridge.

Salen turns to st0ne and says, "I want you to prepare another away team, st0ne, to mop up any Romulans not captured by the first away team.  You'll beam over as soon as I get a signal of all-clear from Ensign Movack or his team."

st0ne leaves the bridge.

The Romulan ship cants at an angle to the galactic plane and heaves to a stop.

"Shall I tractor beam them, sir," asks an eager young lieutenant.

"Not at this time," replies Salen, "but have the tractor beam ready just in case."

Salen is worried that the away team hasn't called yet- will the Romulans self-destruct?  If so, Blackfire's cloak may fail and the entire mission would be in extreme danger.  Every noise on the bridge fades as Salen's attention is riveted to the viewscreen.

"Your objection is noted, Alexico; as is your theory, Mr. Raynor.  I think, though, we have a third option."  Salen walked over to Helmsman Grant and spoke to her so that the crew could hear.

"Good work on detecting the probe.  Take us within 50 meters of the artifact, slowly, and extend our cloak to cover it.  Let's see if we can attract a little unwanted attention.  Oh, and thanks for the silent yellow alert, however you are authorized to use the klaxon at this time.  I want no mistake that this is a potentially hostile situation."

Salen returned to his seat and motioned to Alexico.  "If this is indeed a trap, prepare the ship accordingly.  Do not raise shields, but have the men prepared.  If we do draw unwanted attention to ourselves from the Romulan Coalition, we will have achieved success from this mission."

As Salen finishes speaking, Romulan Ambassador Trell enters the bridge.

*In Jorgen Salen's quarters*

Commander Salen lays out on his small sofa to stretch his back as he awaits the arrival of the senior crew.  Out of his window he sees the Dragon prepare to leave orbit.  Salen has laid out extra chairs that he borrowed from the Captain's quarters.  One by one the senior officers file in and he waves each to the chairs and invites them to get a snack or drink from the replicator.  Salen chooses a white Russian synthahol and some chocolate straws to munch on.

Post by: Jorgen Salen on March 21, 2004, 09:24:32 PM
"Are there no questions?"  He looks around frowning.  "Is there something on your minds?"

Doctor Cass:  "I have a question and it's no reflection on you, but when will Starfleet appoint us a new Captain?  I can't shake the feeling we're going on this mission only half-staffed.  If there are Romulans out there we're liable to be heading into a suicide mission."  A couple of heads nodded at this suggestion.

"It's ok to ask such questions, Doctor.  I agree, if it helps any, but we've been given a job to do.  I actually anticipated your question, which is why I wanted the Romulan Ambassador far away from this meeting, and why I wanted to meet in my quarters.  You all have to feel free to voice your opinions to me, but I also don't want the ambassador to think for one second that we aren't the best Starfleet has available for this mission."

He pauses to sip his drink, then continues, "As for the danger factor of this mission, I don't want you to forget that I have faced Romulans in battle.  They are secretive in nature, prefering to show themselves only when they feel defeat is impossible.  Our mission is in two parts: to investigate and to expose/destroy any such illegal Romulan incursions.  Investigating is what we do best.  If and when we discover something, our first priority is to protect the Federation.  If that means we simply call for a Galaxy-class starship, fine.  If that means we call for a fleet, also fine.  And if it means we must act, right then, without back-up and facing possible defeat, then we'll do that too.  I have no doubt the Romulans, if they are here, will do everything in their power to prevent us from discovering them.  Failing that, they will likely try to destroy us.  If, however, it came to that, and we simply managed to escape or to contact Starfleet, the Romulans would have lost face and they'd no there is no point in staying.  They'd decamp and try again another day.  So that, folks, is our mission.  Any further thoughts or questions?"

**Two romulan enginnering officers, come running out of engineering.  As the doors close behind them, I stay hidden, they attempt to put the fire out with their backs to me,  I take my batlith and knock them both down from behind.  I jab my knife into both of their stomachs,  I walk to the doors of engineering as they open, I take my knife and throw it at the chest of the romulan enginnering officer standing at his station.  I run in, with my phaser drawn and stun the remaining 4 engineering officers.  I secure the doors and begin, shutting down the ships, engineering functions.    As I do this, the ship, makes a quick jolt forward.  A sudden stop before the ship was about to jump to warp.  Doing this, causes the engines to overheat and shut down.  I hear the Romulan Captain, calling down to engineering.

***I respond to the captain's inquiry.  "Sir, the ships vitals and engines just went down, it looks like the act of a sabetour.   It'll take several hours to bring the systems back online."

As I say, that I hit my com badge, and direct the rest of the away team to beam over and begin the systematic take over of the ship.

-A- Movack to Captain- I have disabled the bird's wings, and the calvary is on it's way.  The prize will be ours soon-A-

-A-End Transmission********

To make the bridge think, that engineering is trying to bring the systems back online, I bring the systems up and almost immediatly bring them down.

-A- Movack to away team- Take the bridge- she's all yours.

Salen receives the news from his two away teams with a suppressed smile.  He acknowledges his Engineer's message first.

=^= Blackfire to Cymeinfoll =^=

"Acknowledged.  Proceed with best speed.  I'll relay further orders through Movack as he's in charge of the general mission.  Please help and advise him as the situation develops.  Time is of the essence."

=^= Transmission Ends =^=

The Romulan ship on the viewscreen seems to loom larger as Salen stares at it.

=^= Blackfire to Movack =^=

"Mr. Movack, thank you for your timely report and action.  I am most pleased.  However, time is of extreme importance.  Your further orders are to take your prize and your crew to Avalon Base and report to Admiral Vorak and Starfleet Command.  The Blackfire will continue its mission once you are underway.  Maintain radio silence after departing the area unless you run into trouble.  We will rendezvous at Avalon Base in one week's time.  Godspeed and good luck."

The Talon banks to port and cloaks.  Salen seems to hear a collective sigh of relief pass across the Bridge and realizes he had also been holding his breath subconsciously.

"Helm: take us on an intercept course to the origin of the previously reported Romulan communication.  Warp 4.  Proceed."

The Blackfire silently warps deeper into disputed space.

"Sir, if this is indeed a Romulan probe, we may want to bring it aboard. I can map out the distortion field with enough accuracy for a transporter lock.  However, miraculously procuring a damaged Romulan probe with an intact cloaking device and no Romulan opposition is quite a peculiar senario. Romulans keep watch over their possessions.
Another theory that I have  is that this probe may be one of many forming a networked cloaking field around the planetoid. The probe is sending it's information somewhere, and if we attempt to access the probe's computer, we can gain access to the network, but our intrusion may also risk informing the Romulans. If this is the case, we may want to take a low orbit and look for further evidence of a facility on the planetoid."

Salen nods and smiles, "Good, good, that's the kind of question I like.  Yes, our ship is obviously Starfleet issue, but our cloak is configured to be undetectable by all known Romulan standards.  The Ambassador has already advised me on that.  However, I want Engineering to work on a way to modify our communications to make it appear we are something more mundane, like a merchant ship.  Our size prevents us from immitating a big vessel, but that is all to our advantage.  Of course, I do not intend on announcing our position with communications unless absolutely necessary.  This is, after all, a stealth mission.  Can anyone else think of suggestions to help the mission?"

"Very good, Mr. Guiss.  As we can see this ship here on our viewscreen, we will continue to monitor its course.  Once it departs the area, we will investigate the source of that transmission.  Meanwhile, send a coded message to Starfleet with the mission data so far and ask that they relay it to the Dragon so that we may all be on the same page.

"Mr. Movack, notify me the instant the Romulan ship, or any other anomolous reading, appear on your scanners.  You have an eagle eye and I want you to keep it glued to your station.  I'll review your ideas for the away team in a moment."

The Ambassador leans over Movack's console and peers at a particular reading.  Smirking, he says, "How typical for a Klingon to neglect to question the scientific aspect of the problem.  Can you not see that this signal's carrier wave is tri-helix?  This is not a distress signal, this is a coded official transmission."

Cymeinfoll and her team waste no time moving to the engineering station on the ship. Pressing some buttons on a controll panel they started doing scans of the systems to find where and what the main systems controlls are.

Moments later, she instructs the engineering team to the appropriate locations to begin in the system take-over and to find out how to run these systems and to reprogram in command codes.

On her communicator she sends a transmittion to inform the Captain of her team's progress.

"Mr. May, as you are aware, it is standard Starfleet etiquette to refer to everyone in the male gender.  It is a matter of naval protocol dating back over 500 years.  I am aware of your gender, just as I trust you will not let it interfere with your judgement."

OFF: Shades of Salen being sexist? - you decide.  However, what I stated is factual.  Please also note I addressed this issue long ago in the "Report In" thread.   As for where people are, I've no idea.  I am beginning to regret my elevation of Nish to acting XO.  I had hoped immediate acknowledgement of good postings would solidify loyalty and continued good postings, but perhaps I was hasty...  Until the crew comes alive, we must muddle through as best as we can.

*Sven watches as the Romulan Ambassador moves closer to his station and in doing so, he mistakenly gave a snarled look*

*hoping not to have offended the romulan Sven quickly threw his stare back to his station*

So, Ambassador Trell, sir, you say there might be a station?

Why do you believe there is a station in this sector?

*begins to trace the transmission*
{Console beeps after finishing the trace }

Trace complete, the results ar........

*suddenly his console sounds a collision alarm*
*He jumped backed to controlling the helm and made a quick severe course correction*

Romulan ship detected, but what is it doing here without being cloaked?!
*he reads more on his scan of the ship*
it appears to be a coalition ship, but it did not detect us.

Ambassador Trell appears tired as he greets Salen.  "Yes, Commander, what have you found now?"

Some of the bridge crew glance at the ambassador as his tone implies disdain and barely restrained annoyance.  He is nonplussed by the attention.

"Thank you for coming so quickly, Mr. Ambassador, for it seems we have found a cloaked probe of Romulan technology.  Perhaps you can advise my security personnel on possible reprecussions from bringing it aboard?"

"Of course.  Who will I be talking to?"

Major Drex, please inform the Dragon's away team to form up in our transporter room. From there I will give out orders to each member.

"Agent Guiss, Tim, Tom, Doctor Cass.  Please help yourself to the replicator."  Salen smiled back at Guiss' remark, "I actually cleaned up for once, Sven, so no rude remarks.  I just wanted to be more comfortable for once.  Smarty-pants."  He winked and got up to dim the lights.

Salen addressed the room, "Ok people, here's the situation as the General sees it."  He turned on a copy of the General's communique from earlier:

=A= General Mason to Commander Salen =A=

A simple mission briefing is needed to clarify what your mission is.  We have received intelligence that there might be a Romulan Coalition base in this sector and we need the Blackfire to locate it. Your goal is to find the base, secure it and if needed to destroy it.

=A= Mason Out =A=

Salen turned off the recording and brought up a map of the search area on the display.  He continued, "I've split the search area in two and sent the Romulan agent along with the Blackfire.  We are both going to meticulously search our respective areas, while cloaked, and analyse every particle of data we can.  I don't expect we'll need heroics, but I want every department on their toes.  We've got to cover the area that has been selected by the Romulan agent and the Ambassador.  I'll entertain your questions at this time."

****I materialize onboard the Romulan Vessel.  I Lift my batlith behind my back and get ready to pounce any enemy I come across.   I find a the communication panel and removed the underneath panel and take out a laser tool and begin cutting the circuitry.  The panel shorts out  and with ease, I have disabled communications.  I hit my com badge an order the away team to beam over and begin the systematic take over the vessel.  "Communications have been successfully disabled." , I whip around and see 2 romulans heading my way, I run to the edge of the entrance way, and hide and wait for them to pass me by and I will take them out.  As they pass by one notices me out of the corner of his I, I take my batlith and slice the side of his head and follow up with a swing at the other romulan and cut his throat....

Parallel cannons also use neutrinos, Mr. May, though I am hopeful we will never have to face such a weapon.  That said, I value your recommendation, but I wish to preserve our aninimity for as long as possible.  The last thing we need, if the Romulans are operating here, is to advertise our presence.

I do want you to perform an analysis of possible courses that a Romulan cruiser would take if it were traveling to Romulan space from here.  Take into account stellar and neutrino activities and we will analyze each possible route one-by-one.  Romulans are a methodical people and we may be able to detect their activity by looking for the "wake" of their ships passing through this sector.  I trust you understand the nautical reference?"

Salen joins Ambassador Trell, Ensign Movack and Lt. Turning back to Sven Guiss he orders that the Blackfire move within 1 kilometer of the transmission source.  Still cloaked, the Blackfire glides forward.

Welcome Commander, Lieutenant, ensigns.
*nods his head a bit*
This is our CMO Walter Collians.

General Mason has ordered us to this station to pick up a couple Romulans that were supposed to join us in our mission, but apparently they have not responded to our hails.

Now, Garcia, you and Donaldson will team up and me and Collians will team up. That leaves you two *looks at the ensigns* you will guard the bridge of the station while our teams investigate throughout the station.

Keep in mind that we are not hunting for an enemy but instead trying to find those people. Keep your weapons on stun, in case there is any trouble. I don't want General Mason getting on my case about having to deal with a dead Romulan. Unless it is of the Coalition.

Any questions?

Salen leaned over May's shoulder and looked at the sensor readings.  "Where is the away team?  Oh, here we go, I think the shielding is still blocking our sensors."

Salen returned to the command chair and ordered Lt. Cmdr. "Mr. Guiss, signal the Dragon that we have their crew and will return them to their ship immediately after the debriefing.  Afterward I want you and the senior officers to report to my quarters for a short mission discussion.  I'm going there now- you have the Bridge."  Salen leaves.

"Understood, sir." Nyssa went over the controls and sent out a few exploration probes. One came back, signifying that something was out there. She turned her head and said to the officer at OPS, "Can you tell what that anomaly is?"

He ran his fingers over some controls and at first he thought that it might be a hydrogen bubble, but after doing two more quick tests, he said "It is definately a Romulan probe." He set off a Yellow Alert but didn't set off the claxon, as the ship was still on communications silence. Nyssa told tactical to be on the ready, if need be.

I still haven't received a rank yet for Nyssa, and I am still having to sign in for every page. Also, the cursor still freezes every 30 seconds, it seems like, and sometimes when I hit submit, my post will disappear. This is my second time trying to send it. Thanks, Nyssa
