*Kirby looked around the hectic Main Engineering and started thinking to himself.*
'Let's see, there's a leak in the conduit. I think I remember reading about this. Maybe...'
"Can we eject the tank?"
OOC: Just in case you can't tell, the italics is thought.
"That might be the best course of action. The end decision in a case between saving the ship and losing it, the obvious answer is to save it. Ejecting the warp core in the middle of a combat would be nothing but a surrender if the weapons and shields are weakened. But in the end, the command officers can deal better with surrender than with assured death and destruction of the ships core exploded".
The scenario exited and the holodeck sat as normal.
"What would you do Cadet, during a combat, in the engineering deck? Throughout the ship even. Take your best educated answer".
"Ah..pardon my lack of engineering knowledge. Yes, a very good solution. Begin that, and keep me aprised of power levels".
As Lurado finished, the ship lurched violently.
"What the..?"
The alert klaxons sounded, and the computer came on the sound.
'Computer: Three minutes until warp core overload. Core breach eminent'.
Lurado looked to the engineer, and beckoned back.
"We might need to get to engineering chief".
They enter engineering, and Lurado looks to the chief to begin work, not quite sure himself what to do.
*Kirby gave the captain a nod.*
"It should work and, of course, solve our little energy crisis."
*He turns back to the console.*
"Computer, let's redirect the power to weapons and shields, as well as any other systems below normal power levels."
-For Cadets Training
Computer: The main transporter system has a malfunction in the bio-filter, detected in level one diagnostic.
Lurado stepped onto the holodeck with Captain Brodie. He went to Oak.
"It appears there is some heavy work ahead. What will you do first to repair the bio filter? Remember that it is located underneath the transporter pad".
"You can eject the warp core, but I do not think the same applies with the coolant tanks"
"Well, even without the warp core, we'd still have impulse, I believe. So, unless we need to escape quickly, it seems like it would be the better option."
"Well, it seems that something - or at least, the computer thinks that something - in the shuttle bay requires all that power. I can't think of much that would use a shipload of power, besides the ship itself. I have some theories, outside of a computer malfunction, as to what may have caused it; however, I would need to know what, if anything, is going on down there in order to even judge their likely-hood. Have we had any reports from there?"
"Hmm... We could attempt to use the ramscoop."
*Kirby sighs before taking a look at a monitor.*
"Computer, what's the cause of the overload?"
Computer: Affirmative, power can be redirected to several ship systems to compensate.
Lurado spoke up, "Perhaps diverting powe to sheilds, weapons, various systems to balance it out. What do you think Chief?".
Brodie passed Oak as he came into the Holodeck handing Lurado his notes to add to Oaks record.
"I'm going to be working less with the DSA, Admiral Madison has made me an Operations officer on the station. I'll do alot of odd jobs, sort of roam. But rightfully so, its a drag to sit in any other chair that the captains."
*Kirby walks in and waits to begin.*
"The biofilter, eh? Let's see, assuming we haven't already, we should shut down the system. Then we should probably go down to the biofilter and run some more manual scans in order to identify the exact nature of the malfuntion."
"That decision is for you Cadet. You should know that ejecting the core would mean the ship could not power to warp. Leaving it sit would be the destruction of the ship. So what is the situation?"
"Very good, you might also work with power compensation. It is important to keep the important systems, such as shields, with balanced power, but to keep everything as a whole balanced depending on the power left to you in an emergency situation. Let's move on, Cadet, I promote you to Cadet Class 3 for the final bit of this course. This will test you as a chief engineer over being an engineering officer. You will be in command of your department in this simulation".
The scenario loaded and the holodeck came to life.
"This situation is one of a deep problem. The ships computer has a serious malfunction. The warp core is offline, the ships power is on a low use, weapons and sheilds are offline. All power, and more than is normal or suggested, is put to the shuttlebay. This signifies that something might be going on in that shuttlebay. You are the chief engineer, and are to investigate and work on this serious shipwide situation. I will be the captain of this ship, which will be Sovereign class. Let us begin".
Lurado took a seat in the active simulation's captains chair, and Cadet Oak stood there to begin the training.
"Chief" He said, referring to Oak, "We need power re-balanced, the simple way of diverting it back as it was by our consoles on the bridge is not cutting it...this seems to be a problem sourced from the computer system. What are your thoughts?".
"An interesting thought". They stepped into engineering, and went to a console.
"Well, this shows that the power is flowing through....deck thirteen...main power conduit. I am no engineer, chief, would you say we should attempt to cut off the flow of power to the shuttle bay?"
"We could, but I would worry that it might find another way to re-route it. And who knows what it may do when we cut off it's supply, although that may be more of Security's problem."
"To do what?".
Computer: Unknown. Overload source from the impulse engines.
"Thank you, Sir."
*Kirby shook the Captain's hand before leaving the holodeck.*
Captain Brodie walked into the Holodeck.
"Captain Lurado will be here shortly. You've passed the written part of this course. I will be your instructor for the hands on simulations. Lets begin."
He moves to the control panel for he holodeck. Putting in the program.
"You will start out as an Engineering officer. In this scenario you will be with one other officer and the Chief Engineer inside the jefferies tube attempting to run a level 1 diagnostic on the transporter system."
Brodie stands back into the corner.
"Ready, begin simulation"
(I will play the computer and other officers in this simulation, as will Captain Lurado.)
"That would do it".
Lurado ordered the computer to end the program, and took a long pip, handing it to Oak.
"Cadet, you are moved up to the Cadet Class 2 rank...Computer, load and begin the engineering course simulations, filename Lurado".
The holodeck now loaded the setting of main engineering, there was a haze of smoke spread around, alerts sounding.
"Cadet, the ship is in combat! We have a conduit leak on the coolant tanks, your the chief of engineering, proceed to take command of this situation as the chief of this department, and get the ship out of the problem, begin!".
Lurado shouted intentionally, testing the Cadet on a stressfull situation.
"I guess I was thinking of something else. Can we shut down the warp core? Or would that be a bad idea because we're in battle?"
"I would attempt to optimise the combat systems as well as repair any major damage."
"Well, I don't really know what it is exactly. It seems intelligent though, and apparently it has the ability, whether through natural or technological means, to control our computer systems. Who knows what it could need the energy for? Perhaps it's feeding on it, or maybe it's siphoning it for it's own uses. If it is simply a creature, albeit an intelligent one, who feeds on energy, then it likely was attracted to a shuttle and followed it or was attached to it when it came into the bay."
*Kirby thought about what he just said and how little information he was actually going on and sighed.*
"But those are just possibilities of course, Sir."
*walks in*
hello im new here so im ready to do this
"Their main function: collect hydrogen from interstellar space for fuel."
"The impulse engines? Well, we can't really just shut them down. Computer, can we redirect the excess power going into the warp core to somewhere else?"
Computer: Acknowledged.
Lurado took a look at the console in engineering, checking the current readings.
"That appears to be solving our problem, Chief. Excellent".
The holodeck then ended the program, and returned to normal.
"Very good performance Cadet Oak. I think you are perfectly prepared for your career in Starfleet Engineering. You are complete in this course, thank you for for work. You may now head to Admiral Hobson's office, the Academy CO. He will work with you on your next step. Good luck, Cadet".
*Kirby watched as the environment and holo-personnel materialized around him.*
"Right, so... Computer, begin Level 1 diagnostic of the system."
"The reports are that the room is surrounded in a field of energy, nobody can enter without becoming severely burned, the medical officers make it clear that none can enter it and be safe. But yet the power remains to be evenly placed around the ship to systems such as life support, the replicators, our lighting. As if intentionally, the computer targeted only non-essential systems to take this power from, it clearly shows that it regards our existance and has stepped around what would kill us".
Lurado stood, it was not obvious to the Cadet, who did not know him so well. But he was relishing the 'part' of being a commanding officer again, he had missed it for so long.
"Lets head to engineering, chief. There we may work as a source against this. But tell me". He said, as they entered the turbolift.
"What theories would you put forth for this? I have never seen such a thing".
OOC: Welcome Sacarr, you can get into the simulation as the Assistant Engineer. Mr. Oak if the chief. Take on the Cadet C1 Avatar/Uniform
-----
"I tend to agree".
As he spoke, the ship shook.
"Computer, what happened?" he shouted.
Computer: 'The shuttle bay has decompressed, and an energy overload has taken place. The ship is drained 50% of full energy'.
Lurado examined the console's readings. "It would appear that the energy gathering has ended, but we're now lost of the power it had, so we're still functioning at low power. What would you suggest Chief?".
