Title: Holodeck
Post by: Apodae Swift on November 10, 2006, 06:47:30 PM
Swift walked on to the holodeck, he looked very relaxed. That was because he was, he felt he could take anything the world threw at him, simulation or not.
"Hello." Swift said pleasantly, he approached Cadet Lois. "I am at your service. Use me as you will... Oh if there are any missions or jobs that involve a lot of gun fire and certain death, I would like those."

Viktor thinks about for a second and then says.

"A Security officer is their to provide the saftey for any person, Military, Civlian, or Criminal, at all times and if the need requires to use force to maintain peace and saftey."

Viktor Finishes hoping this is a good answer.

Suddenly sitting in a chair, Garrissons brain needed a few seconds to come around. He took a quick look around and couldn't see any obvious damage on the bridge.

"Evasive maneuveurs!", he yelled over the alarm sounds. "Fire at there drive, but don't..."

The ship was hit again and Garrisson almost fell out of his chair.

Garrisson came running around a corner. He stopped in front of the other cadets, he looked a bit frightened and opend his mouth as if to say something, but closed it again looking a bit puzzled now at the two new faces. Suddenly about 40 of the creatures came around the corner. Garrisson turned around, set his rifle on maximum, fired wildly at the incoming creatures and accidently shot a whole into the hull of the enemy vessel.

<Noticing Bran walking in, Simon moves to his desk that was set up and started to go threw some PADD work ((AKA Paper work))>

"Ah, its good to see youve returned, hope that lil Lhasa mission didnt scare you off so thats a good thing.  Tell me, do you have any medical experience?" Simon asked before the other cadets showed up.

<Simons fingers flew across the console as a new sim started up>

*The holodeck started a new program up, this time it was set in a mountainous area*

<Simons voice came over the comm>

"Alright this program is as follows.  Your job is to keep Alexia safe from danger, she will be the maiden in distress while its Swift and Lois's job to find and rescue her then escort her to safety out of enemy territory.  Call it a search and rescue mission to save the Daughter of an ambassador sorta deal.  Understand?"

"Ensign take this PADD to Hobsons office." he said to the ensign as he comes up and gets the PADD then heads directly to Hobsons office.

"Please Vox don't give me orders." Peters was trying to think.
*Another creature came near him so he hit with the butt of his rifle. It seemed to stagger for a few seconds and then was after him again. He turned the setting up on the rifle and shot another creature. It fell to the ground dazed but stood up again a couple of minutes later.*
"Turn up the setting on your rifle to maximum, it dazes them. It might give us enough time to get the cell." *Peters shouted over the noise of the creatures.*

Swift walked up the hall of the station quite casually, he had been told to report to the holodeck for a tactical simulation or lesson or something. He had remember this, but in truth his mind started to wonder unless the conversation had words like shoot or explosion in them. Either way he had finally turned up and walked over to Captain Rajnus who was over looking the simulation.
"Cadet Swift reporting for duty Sir." Swift gave a quick glance at the screen. Hmm... Interesting situation. Though not entirely difficult to get out of. Swift thought. He had some knowledge of Starfleet operations, tactics, and weapons. His mother was a Starfleet captain of an exploration vessel at the other side of the quadrant.

OOC: I posted as my post doesn't depend on what Lois does.

"So you like the hurt people, its easy to hurt someone, and easier to kill them.  Why didnt you learn to heal them first?.  You wish to be a good fighter, but anyone weilding a phaser or a knife can be a good fighter, but learning to defend yourself and to heal others will make you a great fighter and a greater friend to everyone.  Learn to heal anyone whos hurt even your enemies and youll find that you wont be without friends to fight by your side.  But remember, that if you show compassion even to your enemies, they may one day show you the same compassion back.  Wouldnt you say that is correct, Cadet?" Simon looked at Bran.

OOC**Ok a few ground rules.  1) if your going to post, post with what your going to do and NO editing later.  I wont tolerate that and I will pretty much give you an F for that simulation.  2) keep the OOC posting to a minimum that will also count against your grades.  If you can obey these rules then we wont have much of problems.

So Lois this is the last time im going to allow that sort of post from you.  It will start affecting your grades from this point on.  So post what you mean and keep it as that, no Editing later.

If someone has a problem with these rules, hopefully theyll be mature enough to PM me about them and ill explain them more in detail.

"What was your question, Mr Dicen?"

<Turning to Galli>

"Or set your phaser to Wide dispersal.  More effective.  Lets run you threw a training sim.  Then we will be done for the day." he said to the cadets as he pushed a button on his console.

*The Holodeck turned into the Bridge of a Galaxy class Vessel all the key members of Voyager's crew were there except for Tactical*

*Voyager came under attack from a Jem'Hadar vessel, reports from all over the ship came in, Comm was down, power down to 90%, ruptures began to form on decks 4-10*

"This Simulation is combat, Galli your head of tactical, Grey your Captain.  Dicen your Operations.  In this situation you have to think on the fly without consulting the Captain all the time.  I know Captains are usually giving you orders all the time but sometimes you have to think on the fly and go with your gutt feeling.  Then accept the consquences of your actions later." he said as the Simulation continued.

"Very good, Mr Lois.  Firing without having been told too was a very good thing but remember that you cant do that all the time unless you are in a situation like this.  Thank you for the assistence, Miss Alexia."

"I will run another simulation this one will be random so you must be prepared for anything.  You will be in charge Lois, while Alexia is your second in command.  Understand?" he said as he turned to leave for the holodeck control/observation room.

*Simons voice came over the comm into the holodeck*

"Ok you 2, this time I want you to search and rescue inside enemy territory.  Your objective is to find the camp in record time.  This is where it gets tricky.  Now good luck." he said as the comm cuts out.

*Phaser fire began to be fired at the 5 man away team*

He glanced quickly to his side to see the women, Alexia, the captain had called her was behind another crate. Mark stood up and rested his rifle on the top of grate, aimed and shot at the three enemies. They all fell quickly, the lighting--

Title: Holodeck
Post by: Apodae Swift on December 08, 2006, 05:39:35 PM
"All of them?" Swift asked. "Really sir? Fine." Swift thought for a moment then began to speak quite levelly. "Firstly basic principles. These are to identify the objectives, decide where to concentrate your effort, exploiting weather, exploiting night, the economy of your forces, protection of your forces, fortifications, use and improvement of terrain and of course reconnaissance. I can go in to detail about each on Sir but I'll go through the rest and if you want me to when I'm finished then I will.
"Now unit tactics and drills. The most basic drill is designed for when you come under fire from an enemy threat. Run two or three steps, drop to the ground or into cover, crawl a few yards, observe, shoot, move, observe, shoot, move and so on until new orders are given. The most basic unit tactic is of course pepper-potting. It is done in pairs with one officer suppressing or neutralizing the enemy while a second moves. An advancement of this is called bounding overwatch, in this one unit fires while another comes from behind and takes up position in front. Then that unit starts to fire and the ones previously firing move in front of them and so on. There is a retreating tactic called Centre Peel but I can't quite remember it sir.
"There are many types of offensive tactics. There is the ambush, the skirmish, the rapid dominance, the planned attack which includes things like the pincer movement and the flanking maneuver, envelopment tactics, interdiction, rapid deployment, preemptive strikes, and my personal favorite, divide and conquer. Again sir if you wish me to go in to more detail I will, but those are the offensive tactics I am aware of. I am sure there are a few more that I can't quite remember.
"As for defensive tactics there is Centre peel as I said before but I'm not entirely sure what that is. There is also defense in depth, the use of cross fire for mutual support, scorched earth, booby traps, a good old fashioned counter attack, and my favorite the Hedgehog defensive. Again sir, if you wish any of these in detail please let me know."

'Aye sir," Mark turned back to his control panel, working hard on the controls, damn they were so complicated! He started diverting little to little power from each station to the main phaser- it was harder than he thought, he just said it in class but he had to do it here! Sweat poured down his forehead as he worked, he had to work quickly or they'll all be dead- simulationly of course.

He kept glancing up to see where the women was from time to time, did It really matter where she way? No, but he couldn't help himself, she was a pretty girl who was nice and
a bit mysterious. It didn't matter, he fancied girls when he was younger but never really dated or anything. He had a feeling that this women had something for him, but why did he decide to like a girl now!? Right in the middle of when his instructor was judging weither or not he'll graduate!

"Main phaser power is converted, firing now." He said quickly, not wanting to wait for the captain's order to fire incase something like last time happened; there was no time to waste. A bright red beam shot from somewhere under the starship, Mark had studied the federation starships on his third day in the acadamy and learned where most things on a ship where.

The phaser hit right on target, at the enemy bridge. The whole damn thing exploded as if it was made out of paper and someone stuck a pencil through it and burned it.

"A grenade would make taking out two groups much easier sir, or having two phasers. But in the event I would only have my rifle I would do something like this." Swift though of using the scatter setting, trouble was that required a lot of power and didn't guarantee hitting the targets. Instead he put the rifle on pulse setting and then fired very quickly, he fired one shot at the first group, then the second group, then the first, then the second and so on. Because of the pulse setting he could fire shots in rapid succession. Granted he could have hit them all perfectly, however he always made the shots hit the targets in a variety of places and not always dead centre and even made sure to Miss one and pick it off later.
"You see sir, my plan is that if I aim at a different one randomly and keep switching groups it stops one I'm shooting at from camping down while the others fire at me." Swift said, thinking it was a sound strategy. "I thought of using a cone wide beam or scatter but the charge that takes from the rifle is high and takes a time to fire meaning that while I take on one group the others could shoot me in the back."

"Headstrong?" Swift asked with a smile. "I'll think on that sir." He had a slight tone in his voice that could have accounted to sarcasm, yet not enough for anyone to be sure. It was something his mother had taught him, the officer would pick up on it but not have enough evidence to charge him with anything. "Admiral, Captain, Lieutenant." Swift said to each in turn. "It has been a pleasure. Though I would like to remind you that I did offer to give my life to buy time for Alexia to escape. So I think your comment is, with all due respect to your respective ranks, bogus. As for setting off without her at the beginning, the intel was that we had to 'find and rescue her then escort her to safety out of enemy territory.' It was a search and rescue mission, I didn't know she was going to appear at the start I thought I had to go find her. Therefore I would suggest that next time you get your intel right, sir. Also if you think that blowing holes in the side of a cave to join up with a team mate and pulling off a maneuver that not only collapsed the cave but took out the enemy is head strong, then fine. I still got the job done with Alexia still safe in the process. Hence I would appreciate it if you got off my back... Sir."

"Listen here." Swift said turning to Alexia. "According to the brief you are playing the role of an ambassadors daughter that me and Lois have to keep safe. I am in command here. So why don't you keep quiet and follow my lead?" Swift threw her a tricorder. "Keep a scan of the area with that, look for any peculiar energy signatures. This guy has a way to move through walls so also look for sudden changes in the geography or changes within the rocks structure. Also keep your phaser up and set on stun, shoot anything you see moving. If it is set on stun and you shoot Lois by accident then it won't really matter."

"Admiral.  Yes, Lois and Alexia both are almost done with there training.  They are still a rough around the edges."

<Turns to the Cadet's>

"Alright heres where you went wrong in this situation.  Lois you are right you took too long to find a correct way of doing it.  Sometimes thinking outside the box will usually save lives in the end.  Tho using wide dispersal is rarely used, its normally used by more experienced officer's unless the rare occasion comes up that throws a ensign into the command position and your stuck in charge.  Sometimes you have to deal with the tough choices.  Fast and in a timely manner."

"Swift, you were too headstrong and always tried for the easy and more abrupt way out of a situation that didnt call for it.  Your first priority here was the safety of the Ambassador who was played by Alexia.  You shouldnt think of fighting first when your main objective is to guard her.  Guarding is part of a security officer's duty and this should be recognized before you EVER! pick up a phaser.  Learn to use your brain before you EVER pick up a phaser."

"That goes for all of you.  Now suggesting for the Ambassador to take her clothes off was disrespectful not to mention uncalled for.  I left you 2 ways out.  One of the ways didnt require you to go and blast your way out threw a cave wall that could have brought the entire tunnel down on you all.  Richard could pass threw the wall because of the way his phaser was set.  Not to mention he knew this was a simulation."

"Admiral, I sent for Richard as a way of putting a obstacle in the cadet's way.  They needed an 'Expect the Unexpected' situation, and Brown performed that function.  Tho kidnapping a cadet was a lil over board but it all turned out alright in the end."

"Any questions Cadets?, if not your dismissed.  Class will begin at 0600 hours tomorrow morning."

"I believe your tactical and security class has the largest of our cadets at the moment. The USS Lhasa sits in the station's docking bay awaiting Cadet training. I think it would be beneficial for our Cadets to take on some sort of training exercise for real, rather than on the holodeck. I am going to begin making use of the Lhasa more often in the DSA now. Do you know of a good point in your class instruction where the Cadets could begin that realistic hands-on training?".

Swift paid no mind to what the officers were saying, he had a look of indifference. He was thinking somewhat about the officers, they were not very easy read. The Admiral and the Captain were hardened veterans, starfleet training even made reading the Lieutenant difficult. Still there was no harm in trying. Lois and Alexia however seemed to be the perfect cadets. Prim and proper, clones of their superiors. Granted that was only first impressions but he couldn't help thinking it. Swift felt he was different, not in a bad way, not necessarily in a good way.

"Hmmmm, I think using the Lhasa is an excellent idea.  They need to get the feel of using an actual starship.  Some of them are trigger happy, but I think time on a actual training ship will smooth those edges out.  I think this is the perfect time for the Medical area to do some hands on training as well, have some of the Medical cadets go onto the Lhasa and we simulate a plasma leak which would cause some of the Lhasa to blow up and cause plasma burns, we could have the Medical cadets take care of the burns.  We dont need to necessary make the explosion life threatening.  We both know the Lhasa inside and out we can easily control the amount of explosion that happens on that ship.  To where they get the feel of an ACTUAL combat and they wont freeze when a situation like that arises.  Infact we can use our experience of space faring and run them threw anything and everything that is possible to happen out in space happen in a controlled setting.  Medical students would get there training so they wont freeze under pressure and the Security cadets will get the feeling of the burns and injuries they will most likely suffer in the same conditions.  Except we control the entire thing.  If something really bad DOES happen Avalon station is right nearby."

"What do you think sir?.  Did I overstep in expanding on the idea?" he inquired.

Swift reached in to his pocket and pulled out a pair of sunglasses, he put them on. Sometimes looking cool was more important then tactics, he armed his weapon and walked towards the tunnels. Swift was so fixated in the moment he didn't even notice the sneaking approach of Alexia.
"The only way to deal with a trap." Swift said to no one in particular as he switched on the light on top of his phaser rifle. "Is to set the thing off and deal with it." He looked over the floor, the walls, behind him, everywhere in a very organised fashion. The guy had come through a fracking wall before so he knew he had to be prepared for anything. Also if the guy grabbed Lois he could have easily taken out Swift, which made him think there was more to this then a simple case of kidnap, information, or any normal nasty things bad guys did. No, he knew he was being saved for something. If the guy wanted to play games with him then he would show surely show this stranger how dangerous playing games could be.

I followed orders and did things to the best of my ability, if you have a problem with my attitude, or my quaint sense of humour, then I'm sorry but that won't be changing." Swift said with a small smile. "But I think you will find that I completed that task very effectively. I carried out orders to the best of my ability and used initiative to get out of tricky situations and pretty much decimate the enemy in the process and freed trapped comrades. But what do I know? Maybe next time I should stick the the bare minimum? Leave teammates trapped behind enemy lines and leave the enemy alive? I'll let you think on that, if you need me Sir I'll be in the bar." Swift said and walked out, the Admiral seemed alright, but that Captain annoyed him. What the captain needed, In Swift's opinion, was a loosening of his collar and a good sense of humour.

"Yes sir. Identifying objectives is to look at your orders and decide what needs to be done.
"Concentration of effort is where you decide where to put your forces and deciding which targets or objectives, require more resources or men.
"Exploiting weather is using things such as fog to your advantage, or attacking an enemy with the sun behind you, things of that nature.
"Exploiting night speaks for itself, many things can be done under the cover of darkness.
"The economy of your forces is to make sure that nothing is wasted, you don't want to have men in a place they are not needed, or sitting around doing nothing when they are needed.
"Protection of your forces again is obvious, making sure that when you attack there isn't someone going to attack from behind, or if you are camped out somewhere in hostile territory.
"If they have fortifications they need to be analyzed and weaknesses found, or if you are the one with fortifications you have to find your own weaknesses and put a stopper in them.
"Use of terrain is things like tree cover, pinning someone down in a valley, hiding behind a hill, that sort of thing. Improving terrain however is things like building trenches or ditches, even shell holes count but that situation would rarely arise.
"Reconnaissance is vital to any battle plan, information is power.

"I think I covered unit tactics and rills quite well sir so if you don't mind I'll skip that bit.
The ambush is an age old tactic, one that works extremely well, the key is in the "planning. Reconnaissance plays a big part as you need to find out exactly what the enemy has and the direction they are traveling in. Then a good place for your forces to remain concealed is found, or made. When the enemy walks by unaware of your forces being there, they jump out and attack. That of course is a generalization sir and may not always be that simple.
"Skirmish became sort of obsolete when fighting in formation died out, however the basic principle of using light forces to harass the enemy can be used effectively. It can upset enemy morale, be used to steal supplies, or even capture prisoners. It has evolved in to a hit and run sort of affair.
"The method of rapid dominance is using a very very large force to overwhelm your opponent within literally minuets or, on a bigger scale, hours. Not used much any more and most of the time forces are equal, however in the rare occasion you outnumber the enemy immensely it is perfect. Also on a much larger scale if this is done once during a time of war and word spreads it can demoralize a whole civilization.
"The pincer movement is assaulting both flanks of the enemy simultaneously, then assaulting the further most flanks and finally closing it like a pincer. Hence the name. It is a standard tactic that can work in most situations. I however, sir, feel as Sun Tzu does on the maneuver, it is important not to completely surround the enemy. If a man thinks he has no chance of escape he will fight more ferociously. Therefore In feel it is good to leave a narrow opening, or at least let it look there is an opening.
"The flanking maneuver is similar to the pincer, but instead of going all the way round you just hit the enemy flanks. This is mostly done when there is either not a big enough force to pull off the pincer or if there is something blocking the rear part of the opposing force.
"Envelopment tactics are mostly used for siege type attacks, surrounding the enemy and constantly harrowing them until either the force is destroyed or they surrender. It is similar to the pincer. However the envelopment tactic is less forceful, it is also done from the outset rather then maneuvering troops mid battle.
Interdiction is cutting off enemy supply lines and communications. You then just wait for the enemy to give up.
"Rapid deployment is in a way similar to rapid dominance, however in rapid deployment it is more a case of you make the enemy think there is no one there. Then all your troops come out at once and storm the enemy. Either that or if you attack an enemy stronghold getting their quickly adds to the surprise of the attack and throws the enemy off guard.
Preemptive strike, this is simply attacking an enemy before they can attack you. It is very effective as most of the time you can catch their forces completely unawares while they are preparing for their offensive.
"The oldest of all tactics, used by humans as cavemen and still used by animals today is divide and conquer. If there is a large enemy force you separate one of it's elements form the main group and then neutralize it. After a time you can take out a hole army very effectively. Humans did it to hunt prey and animals still do, separating a single animal from a large herd and then going in for the kill.

"I don't know centre peel sir. I remember the chief saying it was something to do with a "controlled retreat but that's about it.
"Defense in depth, this is designed more to stall the enemy and buy time rather then repelling them. This is done by having the defenses very 'deep' so that space can be yielded to the enemy to buy time. Normally there is only a front line and perhaps a secondary line. Defense in depth has many lines of defense that are design to break easier but take more time overall to get through.
"The use of crossfire in mutual support is designed to make sure the enemy find it hard to find a covered approach to any one defensive position. The crossfire means that gunners have overlapping arcs of fire, thus what one gunner can't shoot another can.
"When withdrawing form battle the terminology of scorched earth means to destroy anything in your path as you retreat that the enemy might be able to use to its advantage. This could be anything from buildings to vehicles to even crops of long grass for cover.
"Booby traps are meant to slow down an enemy following your retreat or could be placed outside of fortifications ready for a possible attack. They can be things like landmines or the tripwire grenade but they can also be simple things like holes disguised with bracken.
"The counter attack is a bold move if you are suddenly attacked but it can pay off quite nicely. When you are caught unawares or if your fortifications have been attacked at the right moment, you aggressively charge out of your fortifications, meeting and stunning the attackers directly, and gain the initiative. This can break a siege or change the tide of a battle. However, if the wrong moment is chosen, or a counterattack is poorly executed, a military disaster could result for the defending side, since the defenders are no longer protected by their fortifications.
"The Hedgehog defensive however is really used because it is rarely needed, however if used correctly it is the best defense there is. You deploy your forces in depth in heavily fortified positions that are good for defense all round, hence the hedgehog name. The enemy can get through these hedgehog positions fine but they continue to fight even when the enemy has passed creating an all round fire. This then channels the attackers in to safe paths between the hedgehogs, this then lets the defenders cut the enemy up in to smaller chunks, then guide them to a place they want, in to a trap, and then obliterate them... I think that's all the tactics I know Sir."

"Hmmmm, very good.  I like my cadets to fulfill a medical stand point should the need arise.  You see, in most cases you will be sent on an away team.  Thats your job is to go on away teams and protect those you were charged to guard.  NOW!, what would happen if something happened, anything happened which caused you to be taking care of the wounded and no one in the party had the expertise to care for a phaser wound or some primitive shot at you with an arrow and hit your friend in the rear of your group.  You were the only one with medical knowledge, you will have to take care of them.  That is the situation calls for you to know what to do.  Why dont you take a look at the medical database and give me a report on what you learned.  Remember, even the most primitive medical knowledge can save a persons life." Simon said as he pointed to the computer console.

"Go, do your homework while we wait for the other cadets to show up."

As the Captain became irritated, Hobson tilted his head back, and continued a strong look of amusment as the Cadet Swift gave his bit.
"Quite the blunt fellow, are you Cadet? Reasonable, reasonable. I would hope that you have considered that in the true situation, you will never have the opportunity to go back and make bold comments, at least, not as is now. Less than accurate intelligence will probably happen, since things change. But you already knew that".
He returned to Lois.
"As far as I know, or am concerned, there is no regulated time to be in the academy. Cadets finish the course, when they do so, they graduate. If there is a four week amount of material that needs to be reasonably covered, that is the Captains decision. But if the four week period is spent with overkill, then we're wasting time".
Hobson gave a sweeping glance around the holodeck, not quite pleased.
"I wish you all luck in your academy education, Captain Rajnus, I am sure you know already to send each cadet to my office when they are ready to graduate".
He nodded to the Captain, and left the room.

"NOW!, sense thats taken care of.  I was trying to prove is that you need to look at situations at different angles because the right way wont be the best way all the time.  Improvising is key because you can plan and plan and plan as much as you want and nothing will EVER go to plan.  Also, you do need to choose the leader of the party sense your time was 25 minutes.  NOW if you picked a leader before hand and allowed him to be that leader then you could have gotten over there and gotten back with the power cell within 20 minutes with a 10 minute time to install the powercell.  ALSO, sometimes going it slow is also the best way.  Some of you lack that concept so I had to make things difficult till you caught on."

"My job here is to mold you cadets into capable security officers who can think for yourself without relying on superior officers making the choices for you.  Because there may come a time when your a ensign or a lt. and your the highest ranking officer there and you have to make the tough choices for the betterment of all and live with your choices should someone die under your command."

"Now what is next is a 50 mile run on the holodeck.  Starting now.  You run and dont stop till your 50 miles are up, maybe then you wont be so happy because you arent supposed to be happy when you get done with a simulation.  You are to treat EVERY! simulation like its real.  You cadets didnt treat it as if it were real because your still laughing and laughing after a simulation isnt allowed.  This could happen to you for real and one of your cadets could be killed because you would be laughing so hard you couldnt fire your rifle to kill the creature.  Life isnt a simulation, the federation and outside the safety of the academy isnt a simulation.  Sooner you realize this the better off your service in the federation will be.  NOW, Start the run.  You have exactly 2 hours to complete it.  MOVE!."

A phaser shot right past his head, he ducked and fired a few shots. "Okay, Swift, you set the charges," He turned to Alexia, "You take cover and see if you can take some down, be careful- your more important than Swift right now so don't die." He raised his phaser rifle and shot a few rounds, another phaser hit a crate beside him, "Quickly please,"

There must be one security officer on each floor and during boarding it's most likely the captain will order everyone but security on the ship to go to a certin area- the mess hall probally. The security officers will carry a phaser rifle depending on the level of threat, they must remain in radio contact with other security officers at all time. A starfleet security/tactical officer may also be posted to gaurd vital areas on the starship that intruders might go for, they are also required to gaurd the captain during a boarding. IC: He couldn't see what, or who, was shooting at them but they all went down. Swift had fired a few rounds himself even when he was hurt. "Alright, we need to get the hell out of here before more come," He said, standing up straight. He glanced down at the box and saw some strange red alien writing, he took out his tricorder and scanned the boxes: It said the boxes was full of explosives, well next time he better not hide behind one of these..

He opened the box and there were about five or six silver cubes with numerals on them. "So," He said, looking up at both of them, "We can use these to get out the quick and dangourous way," He turned and looked at the bodies of those who were just shooting at them, "The slow and... Swift casually tapped the controls on his type IV rifle, he set it to level 3 output, then wide beam, then put it on the fan setting. The fan setting was much more efficient then the cone or scatter setting considering that the targets were on a single gradient. Swift fired the beam out, a fan of energy erupted form the phaser and took down all the targets. He also made sure only to give the trigger a quick tap instead of holding it down, most of the damage was done when it initially hit the target anyway. Plus the additional charge needed to create a wide beam meant that if you held it down the power cell wouldn't last very long.
"Like that?" Swift asked with a raised eye brow.

Mark picked up a phaser rifle, he exaimined it closely than turned it over. He changed the setting of the phaser rifle to make it's beam into a wide-spread, than he will be able to take out more than one target at once due to the large area it covers on wide-spread set. He lifted it to his eye and took aim at one of the targets, then paused.

If he shot the wall, it might just bounce off it and hit more than one target. Then again, it might destroy the wall and cause some problems. He must treat this as if it was real and not the holodeck, if he took the risk and shot at the wall the best it will do is distract them or waste his phaser cells. No, he had to make a risk free shot.

He shifted his phaser rifle to the centre between two targets and took aim, he knew he wouldn't have time to take precise aim if he was facing real enemies, but it's always good to take care. He pulled the trigger and a orange cone-shaped beam exited from the end of his phaser rifle.

*Viktor moved over to one of the desks, he thought about for a bit.  having done a project on it in high school, he started with what he remembered.

= Report Start=
There is not one reason behind the starting of WW2 but many.  The first was the treaty of Versilles, imposed on Germany at the end of the first world war.  These sanctions annoyed the German people to say the least.

The Second reason was one mans fanatical views.  His name was Adolf Hitler.  His descrimination of the jews eventually led to the holocaust and attempted genocide of the Jewish people.

The next reason was the German Invasion of Poland this lead to Europe being involved in the conflict with England declaring war on Germany, and France being invaded.  In Asia the Japenese moved into China and other key countries.  This Went unchecked.

The Last factor was the cowardly attack by the Japenese on our Paccific Fleet in Pearl Harbour.  This Resuilted the United states declaring war on Japan Germany and their allies.

What was the war fought over.  In Europe Cowerdice.  England only declared war because the knew they would also be invaded.  Russia however Retaliated after they where attacked.  In the Pacific retaliation.  The United States declared war only after Pearl Habour.

World War II ended in Europe with Allied and Soviet armies reaching Berlin.  Hitler Shot himself rather than face the music over his attrociates.  In Asia the War ended after the dropping of Atomic Bombs on the cities Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

What can we learn from it.  Many things too much saftey is a bad thing.  The treaty of Versilles was saftey issue, and contributed to WW2.  No Race Religeon or otherwise is more Supererior than another.  Altough a country is invaded does not mean it is won.  As the French proved.  And contrary to Pacifist believes War could do better than diplomicy even at a terrible cost.

=Report End=

*Viktor takes it oover to Captain Rajnus.

"Hope it mets your standards, Sir." Viktor says wearily.

~On Padd~
World War II
By Cadet Kyle Galli

I beleive that World War two was started by the German invasion of Poland. When they did this, many country's like France and England declared war on the Germans. In doing so this started a war that would cost the lives of 3% of the worlds poulation.

While the German invasion of Poland may have started WWII the Japanese also contributed to this war. For one thing they attacked the United States at Pearl Habor (Hawaii). The  Japanese also invaded of China. With this ment that the allies had to revise there tactics. In doing so they defeated the japanese in many battles.

The Soviet Union also played a role in this war. For one thing they joined forces with the Germans in there invasion of Poland. The Germans also had a war with the Finland. But that war ended with a peace treaty. Also with this war Russia was expelled from the leagues of Nations. But in the end the Germans turned on the Soviets and did a surprise attack on them.

From this war I beleive that we can learn many things. For one thing I beleive that this war was fought over something so small and quiet frankly stupid. The Germans began an inialation of the Jews and Romas. For this reason I beleive that this war was something that could have ben avoided.

This war started to decline when the Russians began an invasion of Germany. They made it 160 Kilos into German territory about 60 Kilos from Berlin. Then at the Yalta conference Roosevelt, Churchill, and Starlin made and agreement that In april they would have a conference to create the United Nations, Poland would have Free elections, and the Soviet Union was to attack Japan within three months of Germany's surrender. After this conference Italy slowly fell. When it fell the Germans surrendered and the second world war was over.

"Very interesting Mr. Galli, however, you werent supposed to be attacking yourself.  You see you were on Voyager itself not on some training ship.  If you dont listen to me now in a simulation how do you expect to get far out in the field?.  You probly wont sense you dont listen to your instructions." he told Galli.

"Correct, Mr Grey.  You should have left as soon as you were able too.  With the Jem'Hadar they dont care about there own lives all they care about is winning and in this simulation you lost and they won.  If this had actually been a real live situation you would have gotten yourselves killed as well as the entire ship.  Sometimes descretion is the better part of Valor." he told the cadets as he passed Grey and gave him a half smile.

"Mr. Frederik, is our new Cadet." he said as he passed Frederik. "I want you to tell the class about yourself, Mr. Frederik."

Though I'm not sure, do you think I could have come up with something better then the whole 'world falling down around you' line?" Swift asked, as far as he was concerned he hadn't done anything wrong, this was Lois' command. He had followed her orders, though he didn't understand why Lieutenant Brown contacted him via the communicator and why he had singled him out in the beginning. Strange occurrences, but he just assumed that the Lieutenant had a penchant for the melodramatic.

Swift was looking at a tricorder, scanning the area. The two tunnels led off in to the distance, each took a different path but both came out at the same place in the middle of no where.
"These tunnels appear to lead to an open area, they may be masking their life signs and power signatures some how. I'll try to compensate." Swift said and began to work with the tricorder. It was just then he felt a couple of things hit his skin, he looked up just in time to see a drone self destruct. He immediately dropped the tricorder, grabbed the darts on his arm, threw them on the ground and fired his phaser.
"Probably injected tracers in to my blood stream. Either that or a lethal virus, personally I'm hoping for the former." Swift said calmly, he didn't mentioned that Lois should have been watching his back, there was no point.
"I suggest we each take a tunnel. If they are tracking me they won't see you coming, also an attack from two sides is always better then an attack from one." Swift suggested then picked up his tricorder and attached it to his waist.

Mark sat down at a nearby chair and wrinkled his brow. He thought for a momment, and began slowly,

"The Klingons are quite famous, they look like humans but they're foreheads are quite diffrent. The Klingons are known to be very strong and brave, they have pretty much multiple redundancies for all vital organs. The klingons also have slightly more advance weaponry than us, but they lack in social and medical advancment,

"Driods are quite a simple race, they were created for defence. And apparently they have a advantage of not having any flesh or blood, which means they are immune to any biological viruses or deasises. They also hold a advantage of not being able to be complyable with any other technoligy but their own, thus they cannot be captured and used for the enemies's own purposes. The Driods don't have any real weaknesses besides not having any humaniod emotions.

"The Andorian race is a race that can be extremly dangorous if temped, they have a bad history of politicion due to a event that happened in 2267, they are productive and somewhat kind,"

Mark paused and rubbed his forehead, "They didn't have much on the Andorian race in the Federation database,"

"Uh.. The Borg race are common in the Delta Quadron, they were discovered by Voyager. They are a enchached version of humaniods, thus making them more powerful than ordinary humans. A disadvantage for them is that they are all linked to a collective mind, so they don't have any induvial freedom. They're purpose is to bring more into the Borg."

Mark sighed, he can't remember what the Ferengis were. He remembered seeing the name in the database but he couldn't quite remember.

"Uh, I can't remember the Ferengi and their charactics are, but I do recall the Romulan. The Romulan's are the equivlant of the Vulcans, they seperated when the Vulcans rejected violance and they can only be told apartment from a genenic scan. The Romulan's are ruthless and have a extremly random personalillity. They are uncivilalized and have good relationships with the Klingons,"

He rested his head on the table, he never thought he could recall so much from the database, but now his head hurts..

"Nice to meet you Lieutennent, I'm glad I got to train with you," He replied, smiling at the man. Well, it felt nice to be told that he did a good job by a man who is a CTO.

He turned and looked at Swift, he HAD done something wrong, and so have he. Swift took too many risks and was reckless, though he would make a good marine in Mark's opinion. Mark himself has done some mistakes, such as taking much too long to find a good solution to a problem.

Mark was a bit surprised when the Admiral walked in. Though not as much, today was his fourth week and he was told it might be his last. The admiral confirmed it when he spoke.

"Admiral, sir?" He smilled at him, a kind of smile that most guys have when they're about to do something crazy, "If your considering letting me out of the acadamy today, I'd like to tell you I want to stay another week. I haven't learned enough to be able to survive yet, I want to stay."

Swift noticed his tricorder pick up some life signs, they were emanating form the other side of the wall. It was either Lois of the guy hunting them, though he doubted it was the hunter as that guy could go through walls. Now there were two ways to get through a big old wall of rock, blow it apart or go round it. There was no way of getting round it and an explosion might make the ceiling collapse unless he could get a directed blast at the wall and down away from the ceiling.
"Hmm..." Swift mused as he stood there, then got a eureka moment. As hard as he could use banged against the wall in Morse code, telling Lois to back away from the wall. Swift then rose his phaser rifle and fired a heavily concentrated burst on a single spot. When he was done there was a hole big enough for a hand to fit through. Swift got out his MkII phaser, set it to overload, put it in the gap, grabbed Alexia and got to a safe distance. The phaser exploded in a shower of rock, the hole in the rock had slanted downwards directing the blast in that direction. There was no ceiling damage and the rock wall had a gap big enough to crawl through.
"Lois come through, we can get out of here the way I came." Swift called.

Mark ran quickly through the dark corridors, his breath begining to get quick, he thought he heard voices through the wall, it could be anyone or anything. He reached for his tricorder and scanned for lifesigns, there were two but they were on the opposite side of the wall- it was no doubt Swift and Alexia.

The walls seemed to be made out of some sort of rock or stone. It seemed hard and sturdy when he touched it, how could a hand phaser destroy such thing? Unless it was set on the highest possible unit, which in that case would be dangourous.

"The hand phaser have settings from 1 to 16, from light stun to explosive or disruptive effects. So the higher you set your phaser setting to, the more power and dangourous it gets.

He picked up his phaser and aimed it at the target, he contunied,

"Well one situation I would change the settings is like what I did in the last simulation, changing the phaser setting to disruption I managed to make the effects more widespread to hit spread out enemies or objects in one shot."

"Another situation is when I'm trying to hit a object between a narrow or close-in space. I could set the phaser so it would have a more narrow effect at what I shoot at."

"Situations such as when your trying to not kill someone, but to just black them out for a few minutes. Thus, stunning them, which the settings would be placed on 1 or 2 , and maybe 3."

"Also another situation is if I want to move a heavy object out of the way, though this is not recommended if your in a enclosed space. I could set the phaser setting to high and blast or destroy the object that is blocking my way."

"And lastly, I could melt something. If I wanted to do that I could set the phaser to thermal effects, which is 4 and 5. If I keep my phaser holding for a period of time, the object I am aiming at will start to melt. Very handy when your cheese on your pizza isn't quite melted yet."

"You do not want to enter the field yet Cadet? That is very unusual, to say the least. I get the impression though, that you are all ready for it. The fleet needs you, and you have been in the classroom and training simulations for as long as I think can help you in what you will face. Survival is a risk in the field, but the crew as a whole will make it less a problem".

Hobson turned when Brown spoke to him.
"I'm sorry Lieutenant, I do not recognize you..? Are you here for training? It is not usual to see a Lieutenant here, since I know you are not an instructor or assistant instructor at the academy".

Everyone was looking at him, awaiting a decision. Garrisson looked around the room and saw another door. "There's another door. We just have to get up one level. From there we can shoot another hole into the hull and get out of here. Allright. Let's do it.", he said and opened the door. Another long passageway. They started running.

OOC**Dicen, im going to assume you came in AFTER I typed this up.  So the same question will apply to you but you wont know what Swift answered with :), so your gonna pretty much answer on the fly.

"Very good, however, Dont say a robot is stupid in front of them, some robots tend to take that as an insult and break you before you can do anything else but squeak.  Now when taking down hostile robots, the best thing to do is set your rifle for an EMP burst.  Continous EMP burst like you would a phaser firing.  This can be easily done by recalibrating the rifle to set off an EMP charge of sorts.  Most EMP based or modified weapons will go and destroy a robot unless the robot has like some sort of defense against it.  If the robot was smart then there would be such a defense."

But otherwise you were correct.

"Welcome Dicen, Im just teaching the class.  So you have the same question.  You got different races and I want you to explain each races strengths and weaknesses along with each races battle tactics."

OOC2**Look back a page to find out the question and what are each of the races. :)

*Then out of thin air several targets appeared on the holodeck.  There was a mixture of Klingon, Romulan, Droids, robots, Andorian, Zindi, Borg, and Kazon*

"Now with this course I want you to explain the differences in each races tactics, then explain to me each races strength's and weaknesses.  Then explain to me which settings would you use for each? Remember some of these races adapt or are immune to certain settings and its your job to figure out which ones." he said knowing this one would be a hard one for him.

"I understand perfectly sir." Swift said and looked at the species, of course his memory and brain held these answers already. For him it was deciding how much of the information to put across. "Well Klingons are hard to put down, we had a klingon officer on the USS farsight who could take phasers on higher settings then humans could so for him it would be a phaser set on high. Fighting hand to hand with a klingon is difficult at best." Not for you a small voice in his head said. Swift suppressed it. "They are also quicker to anger, anger makes people make mistakes. So if I was in a hand to hand combat position I would probably called his mother a Targ in order to get him angry enough to make mistakes. Though it is important to know they are a proud and honourable people. They would sooner stab themselves then stab someone in the back, well most anyway. Hence there strategies are most frontal assaults, or maneuvers they think are brave.
"Romulans wont attack you strait away, they like to sit in safety and plan. Even when they do attack they will want you to make the first move and slowly manipulate you. They key there, in a tactical sense, is to take the initiative and make them respond to you. They can wait an age, so you have to attack and be aggressive and stick to your battle plan." He had almost mentioned about them looking the same as Vulcans but being weaker, however he felt that was too much information.
"I don't know about the robots Sir, that is a tricky one. I don't know much about technology but the thing with machines is they lack inventiveness. The way to defeat them would be too do something illogical I suppose. Something they would not expect an ordered mind to do.
"Andorians are fierce warriors with a keen tactical sense they are very disciplined. Calling ones mother a Targ will get little response." Swift mused. "They have no special attributes, the only way to defeat them is how you would a human. Tactics, good aim, and luck are all that can really help you.
"Xindi are a strange lot, though I am afraid I know little about them Sir. Some are peaceful, some are war like. I don't know anymore then that. Though I think its the Reptilians and Aquatics that are the aggressive ones.
"Borg you need to shoot with your phaser set to a modulating frequency, I have had first hand experience with that." Swift said remembering an incident a few years back. "Or failing that I once was caught by a borg. Once they have grabbed you then you are inside their shield, you just fire away like you normally would with your phaser set on maximum. There tactics are to just walk strait at you, in a way they are very arrogant which can be used to your advantage. Setting traps is very easy. Also a phaser on wide burst means you can take down a lot before they adapt.
"And finally Kazon. They are not as technologically advanced as us, they are arrogant, and they will sell out anyone to get ahead. Well most will anyway. If I had to face a Kazon I think federation technology and battle tactics would outclass them in every sense, they are rash and as such would easily fall in to any traps. Hand to hand is a different matter, they would be as tough as any opponent. In this case I would probably offer the enemy technology or something in trade. Then when he goes to take it I would knock him out with an elbow in the face." Swift finished and stood waiting for a reply. A couple of things were slightly unorthodox but he felt they were apt.

((OOC: Thank you very much))

OOC: Firstly it's in character, so correct my character not me. I have decided that my character will have a bit of an attitude, though will always get the job done and act serious when it counts. Secondly if you were in that situation with an ambassador you would order them around for their safety. It is taking command of the situation, an ambassador probably wouldn't know about battle tactics.

Mark grinned at the captain's reply, it was so like him to use something like Fort Knox as a example for his ship.

"Well sir, I'm pretty sure the bridge and the main power core is the most important, also what's the point of having a ship if you don't have a crew?- so I'm guessing protecting the crew is important too. The bridge pratically has all the controls one needs to more the ship explode in diffrent ways, and the power core can cause a great ammount of damage to the ship."

"NOT!!! to mention deleting the computer core!!!!!!, thats the worst mistake youll ever make.  Deleting the computer core would literally turn the ship into a useless lump of metal.  Without the codes and programming in the computer core the ship wouldnt beable to run and pretty much would be useless to them and to you.  So dumping the core would be VERY! bad." he said remembering what Lois said before.

"Very good, Protecting the computer core, engineering, and bridge is good.  However if the enemy got to your ships armory where ALL! the ships missles were stored you would be screwed.  Theres more then 1 way to destroy a ship and if they got to the armory your butt would be fried and thensome.  Understand?"

Damn! Okay, you screwed up big time- but your here to learn. Umm, it wasen't Captain Rajnus' fault that this happened, he needed to watch his mouth from now on. He found his phaser rifle a few feet away on the ground, quickly picking it up he tapped his com-badge twice.

"Lois to Swift, I'm okay but you need to watch out with a man wearing a starfleet uniform with the rank of lieutennent. He captured me and he's probally after you. I want you to put a perminiter around you with Alexia and wait for me, keep your phaser rifle up." He finished and started running toward where he saw the man disappear.
