Title: Classroom 8
Post by: Thomas C. West on January 25, 2006, 07:21:39 PM
OOC: My character is the son of a Starfleet Marine, who was also the son of a Starfleet Marine, and his father and grandfather told him to always carry a Type I phaser in his boot, since a Marine never knows when he may be captured or caught without a weapon.

Quick as lightning, West reaches down to his boot, snatches up his hidden Type I phaser and blasts the alien at Setting 8.

*...A man walked in the classroom wearing a Marine uniform bearing the insignia of a Major. On the left side of his chest were several service campain medals. He walked into the room looking about as if he were looking for a certaint person. Seeing that who he was looking for was not around he took a seat at the front desk and waits...*

Occ: Hey Jim its me ^.^ Im back for good now and I just wanted to get our characters togather again.

"So, whatdya think? Do they have a chance?"

Jase takes the rifle, and settles down into a firing position, thinking about what the Major just said, picturing another being in the gun sights, he began muttering, "This is my rifle..." He clicke doff the safety, "...There are many like it, but this one is mine..." He put his finger on the trigger, "... Without my rifle I am nothing..." He squeezed the trigger and watched as the phaser beam burned a hole in the targets head, "...Without me, my rifle is nothing." And in battle I have just ended the life of a sentient being, probably just as scared and homesick as I`m gonna be. He stood and held the rfle out to the major, "One shot, one kill, sir."

Not only is the Academy made to familiarize new members to the feilds of starfleet but it is our own personal way of seeing what kind of a role player the member is and not money people like roleplayers that are experts on everything so please tone your characters skills down a bunch you have to remeber your just first year cadet there is not much you are supposed to know.))

"Now that they are going to have both of us on their asses I thnink they might turn out pretty well. Now that you are back I will relanquish command to you seeing how this is your class. I was only simply filling in till you got back. But of coarse I will stay here till these little girls turn into men. Col. Powell and I miss ya over there on dantor. As of matter of fact we were both hoping you would return after this batch of marines. Your company is currently under the Command of Lt. Orlon and you know how much of a twit he is. He has served 5 years in the corp and has not received a single promotion or acomodation. The m an is a bloody coward and should be discharged. But enough about that how are you doing?"

"Ahh, you're familiar with the civilian version of the Puma. Our counterparts are platform-double-suede, nothing like them available to non-Marines."

Raynor leans his arm on the hood, tapping it gently. "This beast has a micro-fusion power core, four-wheel independent suspension, steering, and axle support. She can wade through a meter-and-a-half of mud, or climb a 50-degree embankment. The Puma maxes out at 105 kph, and will smash the hell out of anything short of a tank when used for ramming. The ceramic-duranium armor will reflect energy fire, and is thick enough to take just about any ballistic weaponry. Unfortunately, she has a nasty weakness to explosive weaponry. Just stay away from any sort of rocket or grenade, and you'll be fine."

The computer follows standard procedure and shifts to the Secondary Reactor while sealing the Primary to prevent an explosion. As systems switch to the Secondary, the lighting returned, and the console comes back up. In spite of the situation, West grins.

"Good! Secondary is up. We're not beat yet. Computer, reactivate forcefields, completely depressurize all areas held exclusively by enemy troops."

West taps his commlink.

"Sergeant? Can you hear me?"

(static)

"Sergeant?"

The sergeant's voice barely comes through.

"Yes, sir. Orders, sir?"

"I've arranged things so that their reinforcements will be cut off. If you can eliminate the ones that you are currently engaged with, we'll be in the clear. Do you copy?"

"Yes, sir. We'll do our best, sir."

West returns to the computer console.

"They may not hold. We'd better have a Plan B..."

After searching most of the bottom floor one of the men from up top comms down, "Target has been located and is under heavy guard, requesting backup."
"Acknowledged, be there in a moment." Jase led his companion to the stairwell, "Team two, location?"
"Down main hallway, second left, third right."
"Acknowledged." He followed the instructions and found the second team, "Have you been seen?"
"No, we stayed hidden."
"Good, all out assault neutralize all enemy units before capturing flag, out the way we came in. Jellico to Puma team, prepare to move out." Jase nodded to the man near the door, and he opened it, the other four men rushing in, quickly firing  phaser bursts and taking out four men before they could even react. "That`s all of them, grab the flag, bring up the rear, eyes back." They moved out in an orderly fashion, teh flag carrier bringing up the rear. They quickly moved out of the building and crossed the road to the Puma. They had gotten about halfway when the flag carrier was struck in the leg with a phaser burst, "Get him!' Jase grabbed the flag while two others grabebd the wounded man. When they reached the Puma Jase radioed Danok, "Flag secure, returning to base." He pointed at the man in the phaser turret, "You, walk." The man was going to argue until he saw the flag and the wounded man, he nodded and jumped down. "Put him in the passenger seat." Jase took the turret and the two men laid the wounded man in the passenger seat, "All aboard, homeward bound." The driver slammed the throttle and they took off toward their base, arriving only moments later, "Jellico to West, location?"

(Tag West)

"Acknowledged, prepare to recieve wounded and flag."

Thomas West  enters the room in first year cadet uniform. He is just over 2 meters and weighs in at about 81-and-a-half kilograms. He has dark brown hair with occasional natural blond highlights, and alert brown eyes.

Cadet Thomas West, reporting for duty, sir!

Post by: Danok on January 24, 2006, 02:59:47 AM
Danok enters.

"Greetings, sir, my name is Danok of planet Vulcan.  I was ordered to report here for training as an officer.  I was informed you might have been in the middle of your class.  I was able to hear your previous two questions at the door.

"In the case of the Klingon ship, I would inform the Klingons that we wished to surrender.  I would, upon entering their shields, teleport the battalion of the marines to both the Bridge and the Engineering bay.  Caught off-guard, we could easily overpower them.  Having control of the bridge and the engines we could easily exert our power over the whole ship.

"As to the second question, I would first scan the area as Cadet West suggested.  Then, if the climate were harsh--such as a desert sun or a harsh blizzard--I would erect a quick shelter using materials from the wreckage.  That done I would wait until more favorable conditions allowed the scanning of the wreckage for anything useful.  If conditions were not so perilous, I would follow the course of action Cadet West has suggested."

West West quickly sums up the situation, then strides to the computer console.

"Computer, activate defensive force fields on Second Level, and seal the level off. Also seal all exits and entrances to DSA. Then bring up a 3D model of the academy with current enemy positions."
He turns to the sergeant.

"The force-fields will prevent them from moving, unless they can hack the computer, which will take at least three or four minutes. We've got that much time."
He  turns back to the computer.

"Computer, decrease pressurization to 2/3rds in all rooms with intruders."
The Sergeant  looks suprised.

"Sir?"
West turns to him.

"That will cause nausea, headaches, and loss of concious within two minutes. Then we'll beam in and secure all intruders to the brig. Order medical to standby, and have the wounded transferred to sickbay. Tell Security to make safe the command center, comm room, and main engineering. Then assemble all Marines to beam to Second Level and capture the intruders. Understood?"
The sergeant  snaps to attention and salutes.

"Yes, sir!"

Raynor and the cadets march out to the holodeck, where they are greeted by a scene of an Earth city, as well as a trio of battle-hardened Starfleet Marines.

"Today, we're having a pre-evaluation sortie! You are Fire Team Alpha! These fine men are Fire Team Bravo! Both teams will consist of a total of twenty marines, be they flesh or photon."

Raynor begins to walk along the line of Marine cadets. "Ever hear of Capture the Flag? Well, you have now! Objective is to storm the enemy base, retrieve the enemy flag, and take it to your base!"

A large dropship lands, and deposits a single four-wheeled vehicle.

"This is the M-12 LRV, or Light Reconnaisance Vehicle! Those of us in the Marines call it the "Puma". This truck's got a crew load of three, one driver, one passenger, and one man operating this repeating phaser turret in the back. You will be given one of these to complete your task. If it's toasted, too bad! Trouble is, the Bravo boys will have one too! Learn to use this vehicle properly, and you will soon appreciate it's effectiveness."

Raynor stops and overlooks his cadets. "Any questions?"

"Good shot. Remember that if you are lucky, you will never need to fire that rifle. You will never need to take the life of another sentient being. The Marines are not all fun and games, gentlemen. This is not a game. If that's what you are looking for, I suggest you leave right now and go find a virtual fun-zone. I rue every day that I need to take my men out, for fear that I will lose a fellow soldier. And I hate that feeling, more than anything else. Which is why I hate to take the lives of enemy soldiers, since I know I'm putting them throught the exact same. We do this because we need to, because no one else will. Because without the Marines, without Starfleet, the Federation could not exist."

West  thinks for just a second before answering.

"Sir, I believe the first course of action would be to scan the area, looking for other survivors and potential threats. Once you are sure the area is secure, the next course would be to check the wreckage for anything and everything that might be useful. The third course of action would be to take survival action appropiate to the climate."

"You two, stay with the Puma, if you have to get out, contact me first, back out and come back in from over there. Every one else, let`s go." He hefted his phaser rifle and got out of the Puma, quickly moving to an adjacent building. He peeked around hte corner and saw two guards at the doorway. He pointed at one of his men and then pointed up at the building next to them, holding up three fingers, pointing at his own eyes and then at the windows of the target building. The man nodded and quickly went off to check for any other security. After a few minutes he came over the combadge, "One in the window above the door, and another two to the left." "Take them out on my word, we`ll get the door sentry`s, join us at the door when your task is done." He motioned two more men around to the other side of the building. He radioed the man in the building, "We move on your shot." A few moments later a phaser beam lanced from the third story window directly across the street into the other building, a second later another came out to another window. Jase and his team rushed the door, quickly dispatching the bewildered guards. "Door secured."

"Alright, let's do some drills."

The Captain and Major watch as the cadets go through numerous sniping and rifle drills.

"Alright, it's time to teach you how the cream of the crop fights. Boys, it's cavalry time."

Raynor leads the cadets into the holodeck once more, this time a representation of a large stretch of highway in the middle of the Starfleet District of San Francisco. In the near distance, the Starfleet Headquarters tower can be seen.

I'm sure most of you are at least somewhat similar with one of these," Raynor says, while pressing a button that summons an M12 Puma. "However, I highly doubt you've seen any of these."

Another button is pressed, and a vehicle is summoned that dwarfs the Puma. "This is 66 tons of photon-spewing, alien-splattering, dee-vine intervention! If God is love, then you can call me Cupid! Gentlemen, it's my pleasure to introduce you to the Scorpion!"

He lead them over to where Danok was speaking with his team, "Ok, Danok, where are we attackign from?" He spread out a map and pointed to the enemy base, "They`ve got a good location, city construction on the roads directly north and east of them, that makes it difficult to attack from there, wide boulevards to the south and the west make them easy to watch for attack, where will you conduct your assault from?"

(OFF: I'm sorry, that's my fault. I don't check this character often. Also, I was waiting for other cadets, which I now assume are no longer with us. So I guess this will do.)

"Drivers, listen up! In case you've never set foot inside a museum, the Puma drives like the old combustion vehicles of the 21st century. The rightmost pedal is the accelerator, while the left pedal is the brake. But if you can't figure out how to steer, you're a complete idiot."

Raynor looks to Jellico and the other gunners, on the turrets. "Gunners! You will notice two handles, each with triggers on them. To move the turret, one of the handles will swivel to allow you to direct the barrel. Firing is accomplished by pulling both triggers. If you pull only one, the gun will not fire, to prevent accidents."

Raynor gestured to the road. "I've set up a U-curve up ahead with road markers. Drivers, take the corner a few times and get a feel for the truck. Gunners, there are targets along the outer edge of the curve. Try your hand at aiming and firing."

Jase peeked through the door and didn`t see anyone so he opened the door and aimed his phaser through, nothing happened so he motioned everyone else inside. He took a quick survey of his surroundings, he noticed a stairwell to his left, he pointed at three men and then at the stairs, "Secure those stairs." They nodded and went off, he heard a short phaser burst and a dull thudone of the men came back down, "Secure." Jase nodded and advanced up the stairs, once therehe said, "You three, room by room this floor. You and i will go down and do the same." He took one of the men back down stairs and they began the tedious task of peering into rooms through door windows, in cases where they couldn`t see the entire room they opened the door. They went down an entire hallwaywith no luck.

"Yes, sir!, Thank-you, sir!" He snapped out a salute and jogged to his quarters. The door slid open and when he stepped in the first thing he noticed was the crisp, new uniform sitting on the bed. Grinning he pulled off his training outfit and pulled on the uniform, admiring the look of it in the mirror for a second. A short glance around the room found the two shiny gold bars that would indicate his rank of 2nd Lieutenant from either side of his collar. He put them on and again glanced into the mirror. He jogged back to the shuttel bay and presented himself to Major, "Sir." He saluted as he stopped.

"If a Starship comes under attack, a Marine's first duty is to secure it against assault by enemy troops, therefore the first locations to secure are the transporter room, the shuttlebays, and all other entrances. The primary weapon of the Marines in heavy combat is the Type IV Phaser."

"This lovely peice of equipment has two weapon functions. The primary is the type V photon cannon that has enough power to punch a hole clear through a klingon Bird of Prey. BUt that would use an entire energy cell and that amount of power should only be used for emergancies. There is a pre-set on the amount of power to use so you really have no need to tamper with it. The secondary weapon is a quad turret repeater phaser. Similar to an old school US Military gatling gun. It is mounted...*Points*... right along side the turret. The turret has a 360 degrees rotation and it moves at a top speed of 45 mph. It can trudge threw any terrain and still maintain battle feild affectiveness. It only takes one man to pilot and is normally used for breaking through enemy trench lines, bunkers, pill boxes and all that lovely crap. Unfortunatly for you ladies this is a course for latter in your training. Captain, should we teach these wimps how to operate one of these Pumas?"

Personally I just wanted to join a service, I would have gone to Star Fleet, but I heard the application proccess is pretty tough. The Corps will take you no matter what, unless of course there`s a decent medical reason not to, or you`re just straight dumber than a box of rocks. Anyway, the way I hear it, they`ll take most anyone and turn`em out to be a damn good warrior and at least a half civilized human, no matter what your past was like. At any rate, my parents are both pacifists, I didn`t tell them I`d joined the corps until I walked out the door, they disowned me, and I haven`t heard from them since." He shrugged, "I figure after basic and a deployment they`ll feel a little different about that though."

West blinked rapidly, trying to reascertain his whereabouts. He saw that five of the Marines had been brought in, each with an alien standing guard behind him. The alien interrigator stood in front, waiting.

"START TALKING NOW WHO IS THE COMMANDING OFFICER OF EXPANTION
AND WHAT IS THE DEFENCE CAPBLITES OF AVALON STATION
TALK STARFLEET"
It finally hit West that the alien was using a translation device, and not a very good one, hence the 'oddities' in his speech. West dropped his gaze to the floor. I won't talk, even if they will kill us. If we tell them anything, everyone on Avalon may die. What are the six of us compared to so many? A famous quote from a famous Starfleet officer flitted across his mind. "The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, or the one." West took a deep breath, and started to look back up to announce his decision. But as his eyes passed upwards, something caught his attention. None of the Marines had their hands restrained, and the alien guards behind them were just standing there, holding some kind of weapon resembling a disruptor. West looked the first Marine, a corporal, straight in the eye, then glanced at his guard, then back at the Marine. Suddenly the corporal's eyes lit up, and he gave a faint nod. West glanced down the line, looking each Marine in the eye. The alien leader spoke again.

"WE'RE WAITING STARFLEET START TALKING NOW"
West looked up at him, a spark of determination in his eye. He shifted his position slightly, making sure he could move. Sure enough, his hands were bound in a crossed position, but he wasn't tied to the chair. He took a deep breath, and spoke.

"This is my decision..."
He looked the corporal straight in the eye.

"Semper Fi."
With those two immortal words, the motto of Marines everywhere for hundreds of years, West shot forward, hitting the alien in the stomach with his head. Stars shot through his mind as his skull thudded into the armor, but he managed to knock the alien off its feet. The corporal reached back, grabbed his guard by the neck, and flipped it over his shoulder. The alien skidded across the floor to one side, his weapon straight past the main alien towards West. The second Marine whirled and grabbed his guards weapon, struggling to wrench it away from him. The both strained for a second until the corporal came to the Marine's aid, wrenching the weapon from the guard, and blasting it with it. The guard vanished in a blue flash. The third Marine also grappled with his guard for his weapon, fighting for control. The fourth Marine didn't move fast enough, and was vaporized by his guard. The fifth Marine grabbed his guard's weapon and kicked it in the stomach so that he flew backwards, then shot both it and the fourth guard. Just then the corporal disposed of the third guard. Just as he killed it, West dove for the weapon on the floor. His right hand was behind his left, on the outside, so that he could just get a grip on the handle. He twisted, pointing it at the leader.

"Take this, cur!"
West squeezed the trigger, sending a bolt of blue energy flying towards the alien...

Shakes his head, "We don`t need to have that many guarding the flag. Check it out, all we need is to have a couple men hide in wait, say five, hide around the area, these building here," He points at a pair of buildings on either side of the flag, "will make great sniper positions. Two teams of six will assault the enemy base, one team will approach from the east, and the other will swing around behind them, and attack from the south, we are on a schedule, five minutes inside the base, who ever grabs the flag, the others guard him. Three in the Puma to help, once we have exited the base the flag carrier will jump in the passenger side of the Puma, and we beat street back to our base for a return. If anyone has anythign better let them speak now or forever hold his peace."

West grins.

"Easy. Let's win."

He then becomes serious.

"Well, let's throw up a defensive parameter here, with fourteen men. The other six can take the Puma, and circle around to the back of the enemy base to try to take their flag in a hit-and-run strike. What do y'all think?"

Raynor walks over to the woozy cadet. He stands over Dutton's battered body, and as soon as he sees the fear of reprimand in his eye, Raynor extends his hand to help the cadet to his feet.

"I rolled my first Puma. That's why you're here, practicing, so you are perfect when the real thing comes. Get some rest. I can't have my best cadets ripping themselves to shreds."

West's mind races. How in the world did he survive that? Setting 8 should destroy just about anything...anyhow, what do I do now? Hmm...can't move, no phaser, no help...well, I can't talk if I'm unconcious... West exhales, forcing as much air out of his lungs as he can. He then holds his breath...and holds it...and holds it...he can hear his heartbeat pounding in his ears...he starts to get tunnelvision...Just a little longer...hold it a little longer... West's head thuds foward on to his chest. He's unconcious.

OOC:   Just in case anyone was wondering, it is physically possible to hold your breath until you pass out, it's just very difficult.

The marines enter the rifle range at a brisk jog. Raynor de-racks a rifle for each of the cadets and tosses it to them. He then presses a button on a command panel nears the door, and dozens of hover-drones appear, and begin to buzz around the target area.

"Scoring begins now! Winner doesn't have to inventory the armory!"

"Very good. If we are ever against an enemy that attacks us solely with unarmed drones, I know just who to call! Recruits, get some rest! I've got a surprise for y'all tomorrow."

He looks them all in the eye's intently. "Dismissed!"

A nondescript cadet was lagging behind his peers. Raynor stopped the young cadet.

"Do you expect that your squad is going to wait around while you lag behind?" Raynor got in the kid's face and pushed him along the track. "Fifty laps! Go! Faster!" Raynor followed uncomfortably close while the shocked marine ran his first lap.

Dutton Hearing the comand floored it. saying"he he now we see what this thing can do". The tires squeeled as he pelled out the only thing on his mind was to finish first and get to the other end of the course as fast as possible. but as he was rounding a corner the tire started to slip he was so into the speed of the drive that he spun out and hit the wall sending him and Jase flying out and hitting the wall. as he lay there he finally got energy to lift his head up and see Jase, HE yelled"Jase Are you OK" he could see blood driping from his head. and the Puma was on its side and one tire was still spining. He wondered how bad was he hurt and if he would not be allowed to continue his training because of the injurys he had caused on the other Student, Right then he fell back into darkness, the uncounisses would last a long time.

Michael walked into the classroom and looked around. Deserted. Nobody there. Michael wasn't suprised. There wasn't really an abundance of Marine volunteers, and the ones who did volunteer wouldn't want to be cooped up in a training post. Michael walked over to one of the rigid and uncomfortable seats - standard fare for cadets so they wouldn't fall asleep - and sat down.

"I wanted to become an officer as well, sir."

Discussion question.

"I wouldn`t contact the Klingons, that would alert them to your precense(sp) even though they would only be expecting lightly armed crew, they woudl still prepare for the worst, simple Klingon nature. Most runabouts have the specs for the ship on which they are stationed, or serving for. I would try to find a weak apot in the shields first, pentrate there. If that failed, I`d probably follow through with Cadet Wests plan. After we have gained access, I would secure Main engineering, and route as many systems as possible through there. Then I would secure the bridge. I would use jeffries tubes to move about the ship so as to reduce the likelihood of detection. Once the bridge is secure we can put up forcefields at all intersections to restrict the Klingons movements, then send out teams, keep track of them through the sensor network, and drop the forcefields as need for them."

Danok powered up his phaser.  He picked one of the drones moving quickly to the right.
Acquiring target...
Calculating for velocity...
Target hit and destroyed!

Danok took another shot and destroyed another drone.  It was simple, really.  There was a methodical, logical process in which everything could be done.
Whoops.  So he missed one.  After all, it was only a single miss among ten or twelve direct hits.  Not bad.  Not bad.

West  nods.

"Yes, sir. Thank-you for the correction, sir. As to my whether I wish to be an officer or NCO, it was my intent to become an officer, sir."

He  then turns to studying the problem on the computer screen.

"Sir, in this situation, are the Klingons aware that the runabout contains Marines? Because, if not, I would contact the ship and claim we are part of the crew that attempted to escape by runabout, but our engines have failed, and that we wish to surrender. They would then most likely tractor us to a shuttlebay, with a party of Klingons waiting to receive us. But they would only be expecting lightly-armed crew members, and a full-platoon of Marines could probably easily overpower the Klingons. Alternatively, once you were inside the shield-radius, you could use the runabout's transporter to start transporting Marines inside the ship. If you worked fast, you could transport an entire platoon in the time it takes to tractor a shuttle from shield radius point to the time the doors open."

Jase sets the rifle to setting six and takes a practice shot at a stationary drone, the shot misses to the top right by about three centimeters, he adjusts the sight and targets the same drone again, scoring a direct hit. He then turns his attention to the moving drones, making sure to take careful aim, he had absolutely no desire to inventory the armory.

"Form up.  We will be leading the initial assault on the enemy.  Let us go."

That said, he put himself at the head of them and lead them through the city.  Midway, a group of the enemy began to open fire on them.

"I think it would be logical to attack them head-on, that is, from the northeast position.  You will, with your men and the vehicle, bear to the left of my position.  When I give the signal, attack on their flank.  I'll make a full forward push at that instant.  As soon as you get ahold of the flag, put it on the vehicle and personally see that it returns to our base.  I will cover your retreat with the rest of your men.  Do you concur?"
