That may be true, Hermes. But sometimes not being able to be everyone at once has its advantages too. :)

Now, the business at hand. What are we going to do here, something about a system restore of some sorts?

"They are only functioning at 10%. More than half of the weapons systems are offline because of power loss, torpedo bays are all that might work, if we squeeze the energy to even get that. Shields are at 2%. To sum the external part of it, we are defenseless, except for the orbiting ships. Internally, as you said the sensors are not functioning, the Ops tactical controls are at 100%".
He looked at the panel for tactical systems.
"It looks like most of tacticals damage must be repaired by hand".

*After waiting for some time for a response, a young lieutenant climbed out of a Jefferies tube and noticed Archer*

Lt.: "Hello sir, are you looking for someone?"

"Yes, I am, Lieutenant. I was actually looking for Commodore Detrell. You haven't seen him around, have you?"

Lt.: "No, sir, I haven't. He has been away for a couple of weeks now. I'm actually sort of doing more than I can handle, because not many people are around."

"That's not so good, lieutenant. Even though you are understaffed here, you might be able to help me out a bit. How many people do you have in total here? And how many do you need to keep this station working properly?"

Lt.: "Well, sir, I have about 70 people, spread over the entire station. I need around 55-60 to keep her running, sir. Why? Do you need some people?"

"Yes, I am going to need around 15 people to help me build some phaser turrets. Could you please arrange some people for me, lieutenant? If you like, you can help as well."

Lt.: "Hmm, sounds pretty interesting, actually. I can give you those people not earlier than tomorrow late afternoon. You just tell me where they should be, and I will take care they will be there in time."

"Excellent. Have them meet my here, in Main Engineering, at 1900 hours. I will inform them, and if you have any other people to spare, they are always welcome to help us out. Thank you, so far, Lieutenant."

*Archer turned to leave again, when he thought of something*

"Oh, and by the way, I will see what I can do about your shortage of engineers."

*And he left*

*Then he looks up at Hermes and he has disappeared*

Matthews exited the turbolift headed to the engineering area with Admiral Detrell.

*The next afternoon, Archer returned to the Main Engineering Bay, to meet with the crewmen. He entered at 1845 hours, but the people arranged by the young lieutenant were already awaiting Archer's arrival. The lieutenant was also with them, and stepped forward as Archer arrived.*

Lt.: "Welcome back, Fleet Captain. These are the people I found that can help you. They are all NCO's, and I've picked the most experienced and dedicated one's, sir. I hope they are to you satisfaction."

"Thank you for this warm welcome, lieutenant. I see you've done your best to get me a good crew. Will you be joining the team as well, lieutenant?"

Lt.: "I would be honoured, sir."

"All right, then. Here's what I wanted you here for."

*Archer walks toward the main console, and activated a holographic projection. It showed the solar system, and then slowly zoomed in towards one of the turrets.*

"This is Dantor's solar system. We're in the process of building a permanent planetary starfleet base on Dantor, and we will need reinforced security measures in order to protect it. Therefore, we will place several phaser turrets, like this one, all around the system. I have downloaded the specifications for these turrets into the computer system. It will be your job to build me 50 of them. How much time will it take to complete them, lieutenant?"

Lt.: "Well, 50 is quite much, Fleet Captain, but as we are with 20 people, we should be able to build 5 of them a day. So in ten days we can have them all ready to deploy."

"Excellent. Now, everyone, get to work! I will check back on you tomorrow."

*And Archer left Engineering again.*

"It appears that the last upgrade has caused some internal software conflicts that need to be realigned and recalibrated."

*Detrell was also working on several systems and responded to the lieutenant*

"Other systems, I don't think so. There aren't many systems running on full capacity. Internal scanners are mostly offline, transporters are not working as they should etc etc.... Luckily most of the OPS systems are working, so all the other admirals think that the station is in good order.
How's the tactical system?"

*A couple of days later, Archer re-entered engineering to check upon the progress of the construction works.*

"Lieutenant, how is everything with the turrets? Can I already send some people to deploy some of them?"

Lt.: "Yes, Fleet Captain. We have finished about 25 now. If you like, you can check if they are correct according to the specs, sir. Then, if you are satisfied, you may take them and deploy them throughout the system, sir."

"Very well, I will have a look at them."

*Archer walked to the cargo bay behind engineering where the turrets were being kept. He took his tricorder and scanned the devices. He found that they were according to the specs, so he walked back to the lieutenant.*

"Excellent job, lieutenant. I will order a team to pick them up this evening."

*And Archer left engineering*

*For a moment, there is a silence. Then Hermes speaks again.*
"Mr. Detrell, I have a request of you. Major Chellick, who is currently in command of the station until Commodore Hedford returns, has approved of my idea to add... personality subroutines to my system. It would allow me to interact with the crew on a more... human basis, and it would increase my functionality on board this station."

Admiral Montrell this is Captain Sisko onboard the Harbour Grace, we require extensive repairs. Here is our repair list. We have suffered extensive battle damage from the Romulans.  The warp core is fried, the the main power grid is gone, all the eps conduits are gone, the power transfer conduits are gone.  All of our holo emitters for the EMH are non-operational.  The main computer core is not functioning, and all of the interfaces are damaged.  Also, there have been fires all over the ship, and we have two hull breaches on decks one, and three.  The impulse dueterium tanks are damaged and leaking, and the main impulse drive is offline.  I think that is everything on our repair list.  I would like to have the ship ready to go in five days.  I am going to put my people to work immediatley, if I could just get a few extra hands, and the parts we need to make repairs.  Thank you Sir.

Detrell stands up and thinks deeply

"Since when do you have the need of adding personality subroutines? You can already interact with the crew right? You are here to assist us not to play and having a drink with us."

Detrell shakes his head

"gheez, the questions become more crazy every day! What's next, adding a female Hermas? So you can try to reproduce, having sex and fights and marry ofcourse"

Detrell stands up and performs the weddingceremony

"Do you take Hermes, the Artificial Intelligence of Station Avalon, to be your husband. And do you Hermes take ..... to be your wife. You may now kiss the bride, ow and wait you will then be asking me to create lips, right. You want to experience the "Kiss", and then after several years we will encounter the "affair" you will be having with some A.I on an other station. No thanks, no extra subroutines for you."

Detrell sits down again and grumbles a bit, but he goes back to his job.

This is Flag Admiral Vorak speaking. Avalon Station is about to be attacked by the Na'jigat, a species existing of pure mental energy, practically impossible to defeat. We are in a condition of war. All Starfleet personnel is required to take battle stations, including those off-duty. Civilians are requested to find a safe place on the station, and those with some Starfleet experience may report to Station Ops to have a duty assigned.

Didn't he tell him, that the choice of giving Hermes extra subroutines was not to be recommended? But orders were orders, if something went wrong, he ofcourse had to fix it but it wouldn't be his fault.

"And how are we feeling today, Mr. Hermes? Are all your programs running smoothly? I assume Detrell finished that work on your subroutines..."

You've missed out on a lot on the planet. its seems the ops building we were to use was full of stasus pods. We found a whole new species down there!

Ok exactly how many turrets are ready?

I'de like to have a few of them deployed in orbit for some increased security. It seems this race was nearly brought to extinction from that felian species i have been hearing about lately. Also it would be good to test them out as well.

<Following Oak over to the station the doors swished open as a lil child about the age of 4 comes running in and hops into Alexia's outstretched arms>

"Akia, why are you not with your father?" she had asked.

"Favver beezy, came to see muvver." he said with a giggle.

"Oh when your father gets back we will need to have a word with him wont we."

<Akia nods as he burst opened with a fit of giggles>

<Turning to Oak>

"Sorry, this is my son Akia.  Hes 4 yrs old.  His father is a Trill which would be a good reason why he looks more Trill." she explained to Oak.

Detrell was helping on the repairs of the USS Lasha, and was repairing one of the mainconsole on the bridge. He suddenly heared Hermes voice, and it scared the #### out of him.

"Whaaa, who is that? Ow wait, it's you Hermes. Sorry for my reaction, but I was working on something"

Detrell stands up but bumps his head on the consolesedge.

"OUCH.....Hmmm what did you want Hermes. Some routine check-up can wait, can't it. This USS Lasha needs repairs, otherwise it won't be finished when Admiral Vorak returns. I don't think he will be pleased when this work isn't ready."

I'm forwarding the transmission received.
A= Major Hedford for Admiral Nocturnus =A=
I have a report on things we need the most:

Needed

Power couplings

Gel Packs

Hollow cylinders for the gravity field on some decks

2 Processing cores

A Phase adjustment coil

These are the most important parts we need.
We are now out of danger, but we are drifting in space. Our propulsion systems are badly damaged and on some decks the gravity is gone.
We appreciate your help.

=A= Major Hedford out =A=

I need that gear.. pronto.. we are leaving very soon.

"It would make things much easier, yes. Probally the most important thing to be repaired manually would be the shields. I could use one persons help in getting the shield generators up and running. The cadet that does not help with that might do best at working with the torpedo bays".
He checked the panel once again.
"Both are quick jobs I think, the torpedo bays are probally just blocked by debris, and I can get the shield generators working at half percent with a hand. Lets get to it".
Knowing he might be recalled at any second still, he quickly picked Kawolsky to assist him, and Aonarin to work with the torpedo bays".

He walked quickly to a jeffries tube with the cadet in tow. He climbed up it and laid on his side on the inside, leaving room for the cadet to climb.
"Here we have the power links to the generators".
He used his hand phaser to push against one of the links and check its fit.
"I see what might have caused the loss in power. Three of these are stopping power from moving from the source to the object needing it. Cadet, if you use your own phaser to hold them into place, I will use my own at a small and concentrated setting to arc them back into a connection. It is a rough solution, but good enough untill an engineer with time can repair them proper".

"Hmmmm, what were you like when you were a child?.  Raising children is hard work, but theres no PADD you can read that will tell you how to raise them.  You just hope your doing your best in raising them and hope they turn out right.  My son here im hoping will grow to be a fine man, what he does is up to him, he just needs to know his parents will be there for him regardless of the trouble hes in.  As long as the child knows you love them and will protect them always, is all that matters.  I think you should find the right woman and get married yourself.  Theres plenty of women on the Station you could go out with.  See how you click with them you know." she explained to Oak.

ok i have looked over everything and this is the idea.

If we remove the seconary plasma reyals and bypass them with the ODN plasma filters we can run power for a few days.
when we completed upgrading the forcefield generators and power systems we can build some new plasma relays.
