"We know we cannot spend the time of towing the entire freighter, not on our own. We have no assistance, so what is certain is it either stays intact, or destroyed".
He considered for a short moment.

"Ensign Swift, salavage the most important cargo from the freighter, transport it to our cargo bay, shuttle bay, crew quarters. The crew can sleep in corridors if there is a peice of equipment we do not want the Heraan to possess in the slightest. When that is finished, I will target the freighter with a photon torpedo, and destroy it. If command finds the decision unacceptable, I alone am responsible for it".

"I'll coordinate our little fleet in the meantime," Hal said, her hologram on the table smiling slightly. "After all, we need to keep up appearances."

*The Iroquois was now playing dead in the water inside the nebula, with the probes also spread out aswell. The Heraani fleet, enraged that such a small ship could do so much damage while the rest of its fleet just sits there and watches, quickly enters the nebula, weapons charged, heading straight for the defiant class vessel and its "fleet"*

=^=Teranis to the bridge. I think they have taken the bait mam. Next thing is we have to make sure we are the first ones to fire. If they atack first we may not have enough time to get out of the nebula in time=^=

"Aye ma'am." Swift raised shields at full strength and gave a little smile. He had the weapon controls of the first federation ship designed for combat directly in his hands. "We are good to go, weapons are functioning within acceptable parameters... and ready to kick some serious nikda." He tapped at the controls, the automated targeting systems were working again but he switched them off. They were not accurate enough and would slow him down.

"I eagerly await assignment, in the meantime we'll be making sure this crew and ship are ready to get to work".

He gave a parting nod to the Admiral before he left, and turned to the rest of the arriving crew.

"Lets get moving then. Mr. Travis, you and Lieutenant Starchaser get on making medical records, meet with each member of the crew. Check out our medical supplies, and report to me when you have finished. Commander Teranis, get to main engineering and see that everything is in order. Report to the bridge when that is complete, and report anything that is out of order. Commander Cook, until our executive officer arrives, you will be my acting XO. As well as chief of science. I want a shipwide status report, that should not be too difficult considering the ship. I do not think this ship has a specified science section, so you may either find suitable extra quarters to set up your own science facility, or better maybe, set up with the Sickbay, and save us some space".

He checked over a PADD of information he held, and continued.

"Report to either me, or Commander Cook as needed. I will be trying to locate our XO and tactical officer, in the meantime".

When they had entered the room swift had set two guards on the door, they used the inside as cover and looked outside it. The Heeran were not to be trifled with, they were warriors who walked around in battle armour, he wished he had brought more grenades.
"Teranis to the Iroquois. Sir, this isnt a Heraan attack! the residue from the weapons fire on the bridge is not starfleet or Heraan............ Its Kazon!" Swift heard Teranis say over the comm.
"That's good news." Swift said, though he didn't see how Kazon could overpower a Heeran vessel.
"Lieutenant try again, you should be picking up a Heeran signiture now." Came Commander Lollocks Voice over the comm.
"Life is full of ups and downs." Swift said and with a brief glimpse at the door. "Commander Teranis I think we had better scout out the rest of the ship, the Heeran probably detected out transport in. Now believe me I want to face them in a head on assault as much as the next guy, but I think it would be best if we attacked to rescue civilians rather then defend an empty room that they see no value in..." Swift said with a slight sardonic note to his words. "That's just my opinion. If you stabilise the captain and the ensign's vitals and leave them here then I think they will be fine, if the Heeran wanted to kill the two of them then they would already be dead. It seems to me that the Heeran forces stormed the bridge, incapacitated everyone to stop the ship from running any counter measures, and then moved on to the next vital section."

We'll continue to hide, our distress signal should have been recieved by now. There is no way we can survive another attack. If necesary i'll take everything offline to prevent detection.

Trust me Commander, the Klingon half of me wants nothing more than a glorious death now. However Starfleet protocals require a different action.

OOC: Sorry, exams and such... got very busy, but I am back now, so sorry Commander.

Weasly Cook entered the bridge looking much better, having gone right away to the medical bay for treatment, however he had not been the only one there and thus he waited till he was the last one.

"Commander, reporting for active duty once more, I have already typed out a request form for new science computers as well as maybe reinforcing some of the support beams around the doors." There was one thing absent from Cook's shoulders. The Siamese cat. He stopped as he saw them coming in the atmosphere of Dantor. His eyes got wide a smile crossed his face. "Beautiful, just sheer beauty."

<Rushing to the Captains and Ensigns side to scan them and over heard Swift>

"THAT! will be not allowed Ensign.  These men need medical attention, they both have lvl 3 plasma burns, a concusion, as well as both there legs are broken.  They will NOT! be left unattended.  I believe they should be transported over to the ship ASAP." Valen said as he began to use his medical tri-corder to scan them.

"They have to be beamed out, Immediately.  The captain has internal bleeding and I cant attend to him here.  Not unless one of you mind sticking your hand into his chest and plug the hole, otherwise he needs medical attention that I cant provide here." he said as he noticed something under the helms control panel, walking over he grabs it and shows it to Teranis.

"It looks like its a Heraani arm still encased in his armor with his weapon attached.  Hmmmmm, this could help further our understanding of the Heraani and find a weakness to them that we havent found before." he said towards the others.

"Ma'am, I don't think the Iroquois can fit much in it's cargo bays. Probably an quarter of one of the shipments, if that. The defiant class was built to fight not to haul cargo. However it might actually be more prudent to try and salvage something from one of the Heeran ships. We may even luck out and find a piece of it's computer core, or a sample of the trooper armour, or even a component of the ship's weaponry." Swift suggested, though not particularly sure if anyone would go for it. "Anything we could beam in to our limited free cargo space could offer vital intel."

((OOC: Sorry, exams.))

Cook then turned his eyes to the screen and began to scan for anything that might indicate that they had figured out his little trick.

OOC: Guys, and Gals. I will sadly be unable to post for the rest of the week, keep up the great work, and see you next week.

*an idea snapped in Teranis's head that would both get the ship to safety and destroy the fleet without endangering the ship*

Mam, all the power from systems we have offline, other than the extra power i need for the warp drive, can be used on our shields. Then if we use the probes and move them forward towards the enemy fleet, we can use them as a distraction to use the picard manuver out of the nebula and fire a phaser shot into the nebula setting off the reaction and taking out the whole enemy fleet with it. We cant rely on reinforcements out here, there is noone to help us. This would be the most logical way of getting out of here alive, and at the same time, against all odds, giving the Heraan a cripling blow.

He held himself in the command chair as the ship rattled from returning fire.

"Target their shield generators, prepare two quantum torpedos. Fire at my word".

"We've got company!" One of the guards at the door said and began to fire.
"Everyone get away from the door." Swift shouted, then turned to his two security team members not at the door. "Get behind the stand alone consoles and fire at will." He ordered calmly and his men quickly ran to position themselves behind two consoles that almost seemed to flank the main entrance. Swift ran to the door and stood next to a security crewman.
"There are four of them sir, I already have two direct hits but it had little effect." The crewman sounded worried and puzzled.
"It's their armour..." Swift said and started to think. "Join them behind the consoles." He ordered and the crewman ran from his position to get behind one of the consoles.
"Look, I'm going to give you Heeran guys a chance to surrender." Swift shouted. "Now I know what you're thinking, you have the armour, you have the warriors code, and despite other races your not overcompensating for a lack of intelligence by being aggressive. Kudos on that. However you forgot one salient thing." Swift pressed a button to activate his grenade and rolled it through the opening. It exploded with a bright flash and a loud bang, a moment after it went off Swift came round the corner and opened fire. "Don't mess with the federation." His compression rifle was at the maximum power reading and was set to a pulse setting. He managed to hit two of the trooper several times before the other two regained their vision and started to open fire. By this time though Swift was safely back behind his cover.
"Excellent sir, shall we do that again." The crewman asked.
"They probably won't fall for that again." Swift said and began to take random potshots designed to be more distracting then accurate fire.
"But there are only two left." The crewman insisted.
"For now." Swift said and fired some more shots.

"Sir there is no way they will drop the shields and risk the lives of fifty crewman to beam up two. I'm sorry but in this business it's a numbers game." Swift walked over to a console and brought up a ship schematic. "Our best bet, if they can't wait, is to try and take back the sickbay. The Heeran may have moved on or it might be occupied. Either way it's a good place to start. I recommend making our way their Commander."

He was cut off as the ship shook violently. The large Heraan ships, and the scouts, had together fired at the Iroquois' propulsion systems. The lights on the bridge dimmed, and came back on emergency power.

=A= Away team, step it up if you can. We have to get out of here =A=

"Do we have engines?" He called loudly, having a strong feeling it was not going to be a good answer. The hit had done serious damage.

Lurado turned quickly as Halcyon spoke, he was caught off guard by the ease the AI could have with retrieving the possibly valuable information. "Do it" he said flatly.

Feeling somewhat relieved that something good might come of the situation, he returned to the question of the freighter.
"It is possible that destroying the freighter is what I would need to do in this situation, but I take it on alone because I very simply do not know".
He stared in one location as he continued.
"What I do know, is that I will not!", his voice raised, "-lose another ship to them".

The guy either needed to check his ego out or come to terms with his own insecurities that he was over compensating for. After all this boarding party and attacking the enemy vessel head on whilst lowering aft shields were both Swift's suggestions but he in no way told the captain to do it.

"The reinforced duranium alloy is probably the most valuable of the lot sir. It probably won't be destroyed in any blast but the isolinear chips and deuterium will be atomised, and they are the least valuable. I'll go over to the freighter with a security team to bring the alloy over." Swift said but before he left he added. "Sir, if you plan to destroy the freighters may I suggest you download the black box information first. It could provide tactical information for future study."
With that Swift left and headed down the halls at a slow run, on the way he grabbed five security officers. They were going to split in to three man teams, each team had a set of pattern enhancers so they could transport it in bulk.

Swift got up and walked out of the bridge, looking like he was in pain. Once the door was closed though he relaxed and walked quite casually down the halls wondering how long he should pretend to be out for. He knew already that he would use a med kit to treat the burns and the non-existent concussion, he had one stowed away in his room for such an occasion. Working out the proper time was key though, not too long or too short. He reached his room in nor time and then lay down on the bed, he decided his best option was to just wait until he couldn't bare sitting around any more. With that he got out the med kit and began getting rid of the burns.

Swift stepped off the transporter pad and looked back to the security team.
"That was most definitely a win." He said with a slight smile.
"Morez was injured sir." A crewman said.
"We faced greater odds and all we came out with is a one crewman getting a few plasma burns? He will be fine. That's definitely a notch in the win column. Now go about your duties."
"Yes sir." They all said in unison and exited the bridge, Swift left shortly after.

Once he entered the Bridge he still had a slightly smug look on his face but nothing overtly obvious. On his way up to the bridge he had seen a number a small engineering teams working on various parts of the ship, he even managed to catch a glimpse of an engineering report with regards to the warp drive. He only wished he could help, however he knew that would give away his secret in a second.
"Ensign Swift reporting back from the excursion Sir, how would you like me to proceed?" Swift said to captain Lurado.

Cook didn't respond at all. He right away however did just that, he let his decoys go and soon the instruments of the enemy showed that the Iroquois had just received reinforcements, hoping to give them more precise time that they needed.

Swift had finished handing out phasers to the crew, for himself he took two Type II phasers and a single Type IV compressed phaser rifle for himself. That might seem like a bit much but he wanted to be fully prepared if he was sent over to a hostile ship of if they were boarded. It probably wouldn't be the latter as not many ships could get the better of a defiant, but anything was possible.
Once this was done he made his way back to the bridge and stood at the back of the room, keeping a watchful eye in case an enemy should inexplicably appear out of thin air. He had fulfilled his outstanding orders and Security teams were station in the sensitive areas of the ship. Thus he felt his presence was most needed on the bridge, this was simply because if the ship was boarded an enemy would head there, or if they came under attack and Commander Lollock became incapacitated. After all they can't leave the security station unmanned.

Back on the Bridge

*... Nonir was doing his best to keep the Heeran ship following the Iroquois and ignoring the Freighter when all of the sudden his consul detects a two scout vessels dropping out of warp and firing on the the ship. The Iroquois rumbles but the weaker weapons on the scout ships do little damage against her but they remain a threat none the less...*

"Captain two Heeran scout ships have dropped from warp and have engaged us, Sir. And from my experiences as an officer when ever there are scout vessels there is a fleet. I suggest we complete our business here as fast as possible before things get out of hand."

Tricking their sensors will work, however it won't work for long. we need to have something with a little more bite up our sleave. The Iroquois and it's shuttlecraft have one distinct tacticle advantage over the Heraan vessels. We are much more manuverable. We need to make sure that any battle situation is on our terms. It needs to be at impulse, not warp. Per haps if we got close enough our limited weapons power could be enough.

Swift got to the inner parts of the pulse phase cannons and quickly reached the crystals that turned the raw energy in to the beam of nadions, in stayed in there for a little while not doing anything and making random scans. Then once he thought he had waited long enough he moved the crystal in to the right position. The he knocked it off by a few microns and once outside asked an engineer to check it. The engineer corrected his 'mistake' and then he was on his way back towards the bridge.
The torpedoes could be loaded and fired manually so is was the automated systems he needed to fix, however the hardware seemed fine so he guessed it was a problem either with the console on thew bridge or the software or firmware. Either way he reckoned he could get them operational. Once on the bridge he approached the main tactical console and began his inspection.

*... Robert gets his orders and he runs off and suits up into his Zero-G suit and heads out side with the repair teams. As soon as he gets out to the impulse drive the shuttle was just backing up with the spare parts. He helps the crewmen remove the damaged parts and salvage what we can from them. He was thinking have our R&D team study the plasma scorching on the damaged part and some how come up with a stronger albative armor to be put on the Iroquois making her hull stronger and more resistant to the Heerani weapons give her a good gain of advantage. They pop out the old and attach the new. They fasten the last part to impulse and Robert insist a test before they head back in...*

"Opening channel."

Hal began the process of cloning herself to the Heraani computer core, which took a surprisingly short amount of time. Then, the Hal clone sifted quickly through the entire Heraani database, sorting out directories and files, and streaming them through a neural link between herself and the real Hal. Meanwhile, back on the Iroquois, Hal was recieving the data and disseminating it to the ship's computer core. In seventeen minutes, she chimed in.

"Sir, I have their entire database. However, I need to set the engine core on the hulk to overload, as I cannot safely delete my clone from their computer, and to allow that core intact is just asking for the Heraan to stumble upon my matrix."

"They are coming along quite well ma'am." Swift told her. "I have fixed the pulse phasers and aligned them so they should fire correctly. I just need to check the console to solve the torpedo tube problem and then get on the the energy transfer systems for the shields. The torpedo tubes may take me some time, besides an engineer is probably better suited to dealing with energy transfer systems.." Her told her, in truth he could have fixed both but he couldn't let her know that.

Swift closed a panel on the security console and then gave one of his tools a little spin before putting it in the box. He had been stalling for time but once he heard they were ready to leave he quickly finished it off.
"Commander Lollock we have full torpedo control back and according to my readings are shields are back to full strength. However I would suggest having an engineering team overhaul the port pulse phaser once we get back to USS Avalon." Swift suggested as he stood by the security console and prepared for battle. He had quantum torpedoes loaded in to all the bays and phasers fully charged. He would raise the shields once the engineering teams were back on the Lothlorien.

*...Robert sat as the suggestions flew out and he thought for a moment. and then spoke out...*

"Halcyon, do we not have a cache of anti-matter mines? According to me calculations about two mines would be sufficient enough to disable the shields of a Heerani ship. Now with our twenty mines we can easily get rid of the shields of ten Heerani ships and I know we have all sorts of chaos to plunge out of our torpedo tubes. Photon, quantum, hellfire, transpahsic, and tri-cobalt masters of disaster. With a couple spreads of those I am quit sure they may reconsider. Our only problem would be the reloading time. Our crews would have to be right on top of things with another torpedo on hands has one fires. because by the time we get our third or forth spread out they might realize that we don't have a task force backing us up but only a couple probes and shuttles."

<Going into his best down to business face>

"Yes sir, Sir I think when the crew gets there stations situated its best that everyone comes down to the sickbay for there physicals and to make sure everything is where there supposed to be.  That includes you, Captain.  I dont think its wise to have the captain of a starship to get sick from common and unknown illnesses during the ships maiden voyage." he said as he left the bridge to find the medical bay.

<After several misturns and misdirection Valen finally found the medical bay, it was small yet adequate for the size of the ship and crew.  There were several crewmen in the medicalbay dropping off supplies in a most disorganized fashion>

"Crewmen, are you done yet?.  We need to get things organized here and you arent helping!" he called to the nearest crewmen.

"Almost done, sir." he said this as more medical supplies were beamed to the medicalbay.  With a sigh the crewmen saluted and left, as he passed by he told Valen they were done.

"Geezzzz, Now where are those hyposprays at in this mess?" he thought outloud as he went headlong into the mess of boxes that took up half the room almost.

I have also in the past studied the picard manuever, and if you remember when i first came on board i made adjustments to the ship, one of them was a stabiliser for the warp core. It will allow us to the manuever multiple times. We can jump to one ship, fire, jump to the next, fire etc etc. I can monitor the progress from here and let you know when we need to stop.

Also i dont suggest we use this too many times, as if you use the same tactic over and over again they tend to catch on *he says with a slight grin*

"Well, the ships small but its a fine one. I'll certainly relish being back in charge of a sickbay, same to you for a ship."

He looks around at some officers working at the new systems.

"You've been working at the academy i hear. Tell me, do they still run the commanders test? I considered going for command when i was moved off the Venture to the Excalibur. but then i went to be a Medical officer on the Rivendell. Maybe i can finally get to it after some of our missions."

Cook nodded in the affirmative to the Chief Engineer and began to work on repairing the sensors, he took one look at some of the main relays for the different areas of the sensor control wiring and right away began to remove parts and change around other areas, he would have to work on repairing this section of the ship, and he would do it correctly, he first called up the schematics of a Defiant class sensor grid and how it should look like without battle damage, and from there he got started on his repairs.

Regardless of the capabilities of the starbase, I do not think it responsible of us to lead any amount of danger to those at the base and planet. The freighter is destroyed, therefore we are the only targets of reach for the Heraan. We can be assured they will not surrender to us, or end their persuit. It had been suggested that we made the freighter a trap for them. Though it likely would have only killed the Heraan away team that were to be sent to it. The margin of error for a plan of that sort, small or large, was unacceptable. And so in destroying it, we are the target.

I called you here for options of either disabling, or destroying our persuing ships. Weapons are for the most part offline, I believe. We cannot hope for efficient fire fight between fresh ships, that have not been in heavy combat as we have. It is prudent to devise something of creativity, but time is short. Are there any ideas?". He finished, looking around the table.

*taking a liking to the xo, Teranis did not want her to come to harm and thought of a very quick way to get the sensors temporarily online til the she docks.*

Before you go i have another suggestion that may help us out a bit.
Although the Auto Targetting scanners are fryed, i may be able to re-route the targetting sensors through the main deflector. So we would avtually be using the ships sensors with the weapons systems. Then we will have automatic targeting and The Commander doesnt need to put herself through any harm.

*He then hoped the Captain would agree and allow him to race to engineering and make the changes*

Captain Fred Lurado took his first step onto the decks of the new Defiant class starship. Not many decks, nothing overly majestic, to some. To him, it was home. A full circle travel from the MEV Paladin, his first command, a Defiant civillian ship. He took a look around. 'Humble' he thought, and he pictured the movement of his equally humble number of crew. He took the turbolift to the bridge, a short ride, and opened a communication to the station.

Cook had moved over to the set of boxes that Valen was working on. "So, anything I could do to help out?" Cook asked again, he was mainly dreading at looking at his quarters and have them refused by Captain Smith, the ship was so small that he would have little choice in the matter of crew accomatations.

"Captain, have you ever heard of Fleet Admiral Halsey? He was a flag officer in the United States Navy in the mid 20th century. During the Second World War, he fooled a superior Japanese fleet into retreating, simply through acting as if he had the advantage. I believe, with some innovation, the idea will work here. The Iroquois is equipped with two Type 9 and one Type 10 shuttlecraft, all three with warp engines. I believe, with some precise modifications, we can tweak the warp signature to emulate that of a starship. We could simulate a small battlegroup, which might be enough to cause the Heraan to turn tail."

Swift's hands moved quickly across the console as he read sensor information, inputted projected coordinates and let of bursts of phaser fire. His enhanced reaction times meant he could do it as efficiently as any computerized system and his brain could compensate for speed and directional changes. He did a Lollock commanded and concentrated fire on the ventricle port on the lead vessel. However when they swung round for a second pass he took full advantage of the torpedoes and blasted all three in quick succession hoping that the first two would break the weakened shields and then the third would pass through and cause major damage to the surrounding systems.

<Briefing Room>

Weasly Cook walked into the room looking like a mess, curled around his neck in a rather uncomfortable position for Cook was one rather sound asleep cat who had attached himself to the clothing of Cook's uniform. He managed a rather lope sided salute due to his strange guest around his neck.

"Sorry ma'am, just got the call, I was just freed from my cell in Science lab, a Support Truss fell in front of the door, after I was about to use the energy in my comm. badge, so... I was stuck till they began to search for anyone that might be trapped. I think that my bay suffered some damage, but easily fixed." He sat down, he had not planned to ramble like that, but it would be rather tough to explain why he had a sleeping cat around his neck, and still in a grubby uniform that showed signs that he had tried to escape on his own in it, including a burned cuff on his left sleeve.
Title: Mission 1: "Here Comes The Cavalry"
Post by: Apodae Swift on April 20, 2007, 11:55:50 PM
Swift got up and walked out of the meeting room, his first priority were the phasers and then once they were cleared up he would have a stab at the torpedo systems. His thoughts begin that in a long battle if he could only have one of the two weapons it would be the phasers. Thus if they got attacked during repairs then they would still be able to mount a defence. Shields were a minor job as he had looked over the damage reports briefly and they could maintain them at half power indefinitely.
"The energy systems seem fine." Swift mused as a tapped on readouts from the pulse phase cannons. Unlike the normal phasers arrays these weapons released the whole energy from a phaser blast in a single burst. This means a lot of energy is needed and as such they use these big energy cells that deliver vast amounts of energy in bursts that can then be turned in to the nadions. "Computer show me the crystal alignment, if they are off it could throw the nadions out of whack." The computer brought up an image, he thought that the crystals were the problem but wanted to check the energy systems first. The computer readouts showed that the crystals were out of alignment and as such the system refused to push energy through them. "Thought so. An energy efficiency problem would have been much easier to solve though... Guess I'm going inside the machine to realign crystals."

"Yes ma'am." Swift said as he exited the bridge, getting weapons wasn't the most glamorous job but he found a way that he could like it. He was giving people weapons, they would then use those weapons to shoot people, thus vicariously he was shooting people. It was a rather large stretch in logic but it kept him happy.
Swift opened up a weapons locker, a couple of crewmen where there. He handed some phasers to each and they took off in to the ship, it may have been as small ship but handing out fifty phasers on his own would be a pain without a little help from the NCOs.
Swift decided to make his first run down to medical, that way he could kill two bird with one stone. Hand out phasers and also get his physical done with, as long as it was just a quick scan. He walked down the corridors and took a turbo lift and soon he was at Sickbay.
"Okay Doc... Docs, I have your weapons here. A phaser each and a compression rifle to keep under your desk or... where ever in case we get boarded." Swift said with a smile. "Also while I'm here I thought you could give me a quick scan, get the physical out of the way."

Swift aimed, time almost seemed to slow down as he picked out the perfect shot and hit the Heeran for the seventh time. He fell backwards on to the floor, that was the last of them.
"Sir I suggest moving on and securing the hall way." One of the crewman behind the stand alone console stood up from his cover and suggested. Before Swift could tell the man to get down the guy was blasted in the shoulder by a Heeran weapon.
"What?" Swift asked and looked around the corner. A team of Six more Heeran had replaced the four fallen ones. "Doc take care of the wounded, the rest of concentrate your fire. Left to right, up to down." Swift ordered, that meant that his men would choose the Heeran soldier on the upper left and finish with the one on the bottom right. That meant with each of the four firing at the same target the enemy troops would drop much quicker.

"Well." Swift began, not knowing where to take this. There were three options, firstly fix it in a heart beat and be a hero, of course that brings obvious questions. Secondly go up there, stall, then fix it after a believable time. Of course the third and most sensible option was to say he couldn't'. "Unfortunately ma'am I am a fighter not an engineer. I can probably calibrate them properly and do minor repairs but if they are damaged too much an engineer would be best." Swift said with his face remaining impassive, he really wanted to get up there and fix them. Tap in to his potential in more ways then simply fighting. But he couldn't unless he wanted to spend the rest of his life in some federation penal colony, and that would be if he got off lightly.

Good Idea Teranis, you've beem redeemed for forgetting at the start of our mission. **She Chuckles**

What if we setup the frieghters computer core to emit faint life signs and at the first sign of transport aboard the vessel it ignites, it would be a brilliant blaze of death.

"Pack it up!" Swift ordered before the crewman could set up the pattern enhancers around another crate.
"But sir we have only filled two thirds of the available space." The crewman said.
"That's an order." Swift insisted.
"Yes sir." The crewman replied and picked up the pattern enhancers. They then went and fetched the other two groups in the different parts of the cargo bay.
"Swift to Iroquois, six to beam up." Swift said and then dematerialised in a shimmer of light.

Swift appeared in the transporter room, the crewman left and he headed up to the bridge. He had left for a few reasons all of which he hoped would be acceptable.
"I am reporting back from the freighter sir." Swift said to the captain as he walked on to the bridge.

Cook right away sat down in the chair that he was standing next to and right away Captain Smith jumped into Cook's lap hoping for more support then what he got from his blue bed.

"Ma'am I would advise against just throwing them at the Heeran ships, instead I suggest setting the reactors of the probes to overload and arming the torpedoes and making them slowly approach the Heeran vessels. They are bound to tractor or teleport them to their vessel at which point they will explode." Swift suggested as he let off some bursts of phaser fire.

"Thank you ma'am, though it really didn't tax me very much." Swift said with a slight grin. "I look forward to being sent on more missions, hopefully though they will be a little more challenging and a little more fun. I'm sure 'vital' cover that quite well."

"Sir, the Heerani fleet has warped into the freighters sector and are sending out many scout ships. If we keep going at our current rate of speed then we will not avoid the enemy and we will lead them straight to Avalon. My recommendation, Sir, is to lay low for a little bit and then wait and see what they do. We cannot risk Avalon." Nonir said.

"Sir if I may make a suggestion?" Swift said walking forwards a little. "Avalon has two thousand phaser banks and nearly a hundred torpedo tubes, not to mentioned really powerful shields. If anything I suggest we slow down a little and lure the whole lot of them right to Avalon and let the station wipe them out of the sky. If we are lucky there might even be a few ships docked that can come out and join the fray. Either way it's much better then turning round and trying to face them head on, believe me if the station had no armaments I would be the first to suggest it. But seeing as how we have a station with enough fire power to pretty much destroy anything put infront of it, I think we should use it."

Post by: Apodae Swift on January 16, 2007, 04:28:46 PM
Swift materialised in the cargo bay of a freighter, he was surrounded by crates that held the duranium alloy. Most of it was in sheets ready to be made in to deck plating or bulkheads but there were bars and poles and other variations already cut.
"Three groups, keep the chatter to a minimum. I want to be out of here as soon as I can." Swift ordered, two security personnel walked off in one direction and two others in a different direction. Swift was left standing with a single crewman. "Let's get these things set up."
Swift approached a couple of crates stacked on top of one another's, the problem was that the stacks were put close together. Luckily each team had four pattern enhancers meaning they could just box off the area they wanted and didn't need to move the crates. Normally only three were used as this is normally all that's needed, however Swift had anticipated this little problem so assigned extra ones.
Swift and the crewman set up the pattern enhancers and then contacted the transporter chief to beam the crates aboard, when they disappeared the crewman started to set the enhancers up around a second set of crates. Swift had his compressed phaser rifle in hand ready to fight just in case a few Heeran soldiers were left. All three teams were working in the same way, one man beaming up crates and the other keeping watch.
"Swift to Captain Lurado." Swift said as he pressed his combadge. "I have started to beam the cargo over, I am having to use pattern enhancers to distinguish the alloy from the hull, bulkheads, and deck plating of the freighter so this may take some time."

He was silently looking at the red shirt personal, and wondered if he would see them alive, he didn't like the sound of hand loading Torpedoes to be fired at an enemy, he felt it was dangerous, but he didn't say anything because other people were saying it already.

if need be i can send a guy to assist in fixing the science bay console. i can spare an officer or two. In answer to your question mam, it depends really on what kind of warp drive the lothlorien is using. its a much older ship then the defiant class. Many advances have come since then. but im sure i could figure something out. Captain Titan, is is possible to get some plasma tranfered to the Iroqouis?

"Aye Ma'am." Swift said and kept a constant scan running with a subroutine that told the computer to alert him when it detected Herran vessels. He was glad he got to act as the chief tactical officer for a while,. but it also made him frown. He was already capable to holding the position and fulfilling all of his duties yet once they were back at SS Avalon he would be back to being a no good ensign and it would be years before he got the rank and position that actually challenged him. He sighed and kept an eye on the scan, it was best to take it in while it lasted. After all he would be back to handing out phasers in no time.

Lurado nods, "He can use any assistance I am sure".

By now, the Heraan ships which had been firing at the Iroquois had been destroyed, or nearing destruction, from the last torpedo fire from the Iroquois damaged weapons system. The Iroquois sat dead in space, without impulse engines or warp drive, almost no weapons. Targeting sensors were offline, the deflector was flucuating, and general scans could not be taken. The ships emergency power was engaged, and the light was a distasteful dim. Only one thing was a relief: There was peace. Even among the damage and danger of being stuck, there was some calm permitted after the combat.

"Extensive damage yes, the scars of war and victory. It's at times like this I wish I was klingon, they know how to celebrate victory. Trying to get a starfleet bridge crew excited about their triumphs is like trying to get latinum from a ferengi." Swift commented as he monitored the weapons systems on the ship. The last thing he needed was for a faulty relay to launch a torpedo.

There are still several life forms on board but there are a great deal of fading lifeforms so when you put one and two together they have a significant amount of wounded. "Grenades ready!" Swift ordered, the six Heeran had been joined by four more. Each of the three security officers grabbed both of their grenades in a single hand and activated them with their thumbs. "Throw on my mark... Now!" Swift shouted and eight grenade flew in to the corridor where the Heeran were. He back away from the door which lowered in to place, he got out his compressed phaser rifle and fired a high energy beam at the bottom of the door welding it in place.
When the frag grenades exploded they made the deck plating shake, inside the corridor the combined explosion and heat partially melted bulkheads and twisted them out of shape, all the Heeran had been taken care of in the blast. From Swift's side of the door way there was a huge dent in the door, meaning it probably wouldn't open again.
"Swift to Iroquois, I suggest emergency beam out. Three people are critical and we are outgunned by superior forces. I have them pinned down but it won't take them long to get through if they are really determined." Swift said over the comm system.

Halcyon, i've done this before. Be prepared for a violent recoil. There is also a possibility for small fires and smoke in the firing chambers.

Ensign Swift, you'll be on tactical for this battle.

Swift wasn't sure he should enter as he wasn't technically the chief of tactical, but considering he was the acting chief of tactical he decided to go in anyway. He walked in and sat one chair away from the main group of officers, he did this because he was only an ensign.
Swift looked round the senior officers, due to his heightened mental capacity he could instantly recall all their faces, names, and service history. An interesting mix of people to say the least. Though he couldn't help thinking, rather guiltily, that he could do any of their jobs better then they did and that included command. He was ashamed to think it, in fact he wished it wasn't true, that way he could take credit for the things he did instead of the geneticists.

No thanks Mr Nonir. Your free to come in and help out although you might need to go back to the bridge so you can manually control the targetting systems of the weapons.

Mr Cook, i think it would be a good idea if you go to the medbay and see how the captain of the freighter is. im sure the Captain would like to know how he is going. I'll be right here now. I can focus my team of the warp core.

Thankyou for your help.

=^=Teranis to the bridge. The sensors are back up and running. It looks like the Herrani repairs are taking longer then our repairs have. They only have minimal shields and their main power is barely holding at 7%.

I've sent Mr Nonir back to the bridge to take control of the manual targetting matrix. Commander Cook is on his way to the medbay to check up on the Caotain of the freighter.

May i suggest we put a tractor on the freighter and get out of here at full impulse before the Heranni ship can react?=^=

"That's a good idea." Swift said to Halcyon and then turned to Captain Lurado. "But I think we can increase our numbers. If we launch all our class four probes they have shield strengths and signatures almost identical to ships, meaning they can sit there and look menacing on sensors. However the genius part comes when we use some good old class threes. The class three probe is designed to be almost undetectable, almost. The Heeran will pick up whatever weak signatures the probes have and hopefully assume we have somehow hid a fleet. They might even think we have a simple cloaking device."
Swift contemplated for a moment and then carried on. "That's not all though, the Heeran are not fools, from what I've seen so far they have a great tactical mind. Hence we need to do more then show a force of arms we should appear to be trying to outmaneuver them. We should slowly retreat so that they think we are trying to draw them in to a trap. It's a double bluff but one that could work and end up with them retreating from what they foresee as an obvious tactical ploy."

I will monitor the warp field from main engineering. I also do have a back up plan if this plan fails.

I noticed when i was checking the sensors, that theres a small a class nebula not far from here, filled with hydrotexoxide (OFF: i dunno i made the name up lol). Its harmless to travel through unless theres phaserfire. A last resort would be to go into warp and exit supspace just on the other side of the nubula. When they follow us, they will exit just inside the nebula. All we need to do is fire a phaserblast into the nebula and high tail it outta here while watching the fireworks display.

"I'm fine!" Swift shouted, it hurt quite badly but the ship needed him. He also couldn't risk having a full medical exam. He felt pain, but what would happen to him if they found out what he was overrode the pain and he dragged himself back to the console and then in to the seat. "Ma'am I'm firing now..." He said and fired again and again at the lead ships reactor core. His reactions had been slowed to that of a normal human, but he was just thankful that he wasn't otherwise he wouldn't have been able to get back to those controls.
Title: Mission 1: "Here Comes The Cavalry"
Post by: Apodae Swift on March 10, 2007, 12:23:53 AM
Swift sat at his console, his face was a little burnt but he was very unsure of himself. Should he be acting like he had a concussion or would a normal human be fine as well? Would they be making a bigger fuss about the burns? Would they even be standing? Should a human be in sickbay? It was a difficult thing to try and work out but he decided to play it that he had a mild migraine and that his concentration was slipping.
"Commander Lollock if we are out of trouble for the time being I would suggest that I be relieved of my duties. I feel my concentration may be wavering from the force of the hit." Swift lied convincingly as he turned in his chair to face her. "I would also like to get my burns seen to, I'm using meditation methods to block most of the pain but the concussion is making that harder and harder to do. Besides you can give the Heeran the run around in the Nebula indefinitely. There will be a point at which a single small ship simply isn't worth the hunt."

Swift sat down at his station, back from 'resting' and 'healing his injuries'.
"Commander I doubt the Heraani would try such a tactic. I doubt they have the resources and knowledge base to pull it off. Granted I could be wrong, they might have stolen a probe form somewhere and studied federation comm traffic. In which case we will fly strait in to an ambush." Swift said as he charged the ships phasers and prepped the torpedoes. "Now unfortunately I can't verify that the Heraani ships are in the Nebula as our sensors are masked just as the Heraani Vessel's sensor are. However we could always got to the out edge and poke a probe through the last hundred meters in order to check."

"Even I have been known to be arrogant at times, although I am awesome so that might not count." "Yes ma'am." Swift said and left the bridge, he couldn't believe an engineer was being put in charge of an away mission with hostiles forces present. He just hoped the guy had some sense considering he as a commander.
Oh his way down to the transporter room he grabbed four crewman to join the away mission. Each was fully armed with a compression rifles and a couple of grenades each. They stood on the transported pad and awaited the engineering team.
"How should I stand?" Swift asked the crewmen after a few moments. "I'm thinking either barrel up ready to shoot, barrel horizontal so I look cool, or it hanging loosely at my side so I can bring it up and fire in a very cool motion."
"I would suggest barrel up sir." One crewman said. "That gives you a hard streak, the ready to kill look, and also leaves you ready to kill."
"Good point." Swift rose his barrel, ready to fire once they beamed over. "I'm just a little concerned they won't see my face, they need to know who kicked their nikda... Forget it. It's not about me looking cool, it's about the federation looking cool."
"Nice of you to sacrifice your coolness for the federation sir." One of the crewman said jokingly.

He heard Valen's comment and he took the rifle out of his hands. "I'll take that, someone would need to protect the Captain wouldn't you say?" He gave a quick jerk of his head in the direction of Captain Smith, who was hiding underneath the bio bed at the aprouching Swift.

He put the phaser on his belt and slinged it so it was hanging by it's strap around his shoulder. "Never thought I would be consricpted into using a phaser... but a first time for everything." He was smiling and laughing, meaning that he was joking about the situation.

Commander Cook only sighed as he side stepped and avoided being collided into by Dr. Starchaser. He was however glad to know that other people had survived in other areas of the ship.

He looked down and closed his eyes, he saw the predicament that he was in and bent over to try and untangle the medical officer, "I am can see that you have not changed much since Frontier's troubles, but please act a little more professonally, we have marines aboard and  you might cause more problems with Navy jokes being spread around." He could only imagine what some of the jokes could be, but he was also worried about the Commander's reaction, a Klingon was someone that he personally didn't want to scare or upset at all.

Captain Smith, the cat around his neck didn't stir at all, but did let out a small snore that could be heard most likely by a few people.

"I never had to convert a section of a ship into a science bay before.... well a first time for everything." "Well, Captain Picard, while he was in command of the U.S.S. Stargazer, employed a special maneuver during combat with a Ferengi D'Kora-class frigate. When Captain Picard realized the Ferengi had the upper hand, he initiated a split-second jump to warp, placing him very near the Ferengi ship. This confused the Ferengi sensors, as they were still detecting the Stargazer in it's original position. They continued to fire on the original image, assuming the new image was simply an illusion. In fact, the opposite was true. The Ferengi were unknowingly firing into empty space while the Stargazer scored several critical hits from it's proverbial high ground. By the time the Ferengi realized the ploy, it was too late."

"I don't know much about science." Swift lied, easily. "But I know my tactics, including the Picard maneuver, he didn't create an illusion. Because warp subverts time and space by travelling through sub-space he actually managed to use warp to get ahead of the light, the image, coming from his own vessel. Thus when he got round the back of the ferengi vessel the light from the ship was only just reaching it. We can use such a maneuver as it isn't anything to do with fooling sensors, we are just using the laws of physics to our advantage. How ever it won't last long as when the time catches up the after image will go to warp and we will be the only target."

Cook nodded to Miss Lollock. "Right Commander, I'll get on it right away." With those words he moved at a quick pace, and since it was a small ship, was soon at work on getting his part of the smoke and mirrors ready to be deployed to confuse the enemy that was coming at them.

It seems some clarification is needed..

The following quote is from a post made by Teranis:

Quote
I noticed when i was checking the sensors, that theres a small a class nebula not far from here, filled with hydrotexoxide (OFF: i dunno i made the name up lol). Its harmless to travel through unless theres phaserfire. A last resort would be to go into warp and exit supspace just on the other side of the nubula. When they follow us, they will exit just inside the nebula. All we need to do is fire a phaserblast into the nebula and high tail it outta here while watching the fireworks display.

This cleary describes the contents of the nebula and its effects to fly through it. His plan was indeed intending to use the Riker maneuver.

It was then agreed apon to be used as a last resort by Commander Lollock:

=/\=Thank you for the information.=/\= If we need to we'll have to initiate the Riker manuver. But only as a last resort, it may destroy us as well.

A most recent post after entering the nebula came from Ensign Swift:

Page 36, 1st post:

Quote
"Hard to tell in this nebula ma'am." Swift replied to the commander. "But why don't we light the way?" He suggested then charged the pulse phasers and fired off a couple of shots, he also increased the shields to full power. "Commander Lollock I also suggest leaking out some warp plasma from the port vents. It will look as if we have been hit and will leave a nice trail for them to follow."

Lt. Commander Teranis then reacted with a post describing the phaserfire igniting the nebula. His post was indeed correct as it would have started a chain reaction in the nebula the ship is currently in.

A misunderstanding has taken place whereas not all of the posts have been read and unfortunately, posts have been deleted. This error is now rectified.

Ensign Swift is allowed to change his post if he wishes, or if you would like to add some what of a twist in the mission, you can always continue on and attemp to leave a quite explosive nebula. I leave it up to you to make your decision.

Thank you..

P.S Please guys i am liking the storyline so far but its starting to get inactive because of mistakes like this. Please try and read every post and dont wait for other people to post before you do. Thnx :D :D

"You guys sent people over to a Heranni ship?" Swift asked. "Some people get to have all the fun." He added before turning to commander Lollock. "I'm no engineer Ma'am and the systems are a bit of a mess, but I should be able to McGyver something together to make it all work."
