"My motor reflex is well within normal parameters, Morgan. Can we go and explore now...please?" Larial asked, with an almost childlike need.

"Yes you have, however I meant that you should wait until after we got out of the person's earshot before telling me about them.  Not bad for your first run out though.  So, what do you think about the Celtic Corner?  Do you understand its function on Avalon Station?"

"No you are not.   You are your unique individual and can do whatever you want.  Do you understand that?"

Larial looked at her hand in Morgan's, the sensor-mesh registered as all the usual technical data. Body Temp. 36.9 degrees Celsius, pressure 2.5psi, but her Neural Net new better than that so she placed her other hand on top of his making sure the pressure never exceeded 2.5psi.

But as for Morgan's question of what she wanted to do with her life, Larial's Positronic Neural Net was stumped.

"I do not know." She stated matter-of-factly.

"Yes she does, and she learns very well too."  Morgan said to T'lana.  "I was just speaking with Larial about what interested her, maybe you can help.  She is wondering what to do with her life."

Larial looked down at her body and wondered as her Neural Net assimilated the information taught to her by T'lana.
When Morgan asked her the question of how she was, her Neural Net was pondering every inch of her anatomically correct body.

Looking up as though startled out of a dream, she said.

"Er...I don't know...I guess I am confused, but I am currently functioning...er...I am fine thank for asking Morgan."

Larial moved closely to T'lana and stated,

"Thank you very much T'lana, I...I actually feel something, I feel like a real woman."

Right then Larial's Neural Net shut down to replicate more Positronic Neural Networks and moved her mind up to late twenties worth of experience, in essence she was no longer a child, but a woman.

After about 20 minutes, Larial's Neural Net rebooted and she opened her eyes to a worried Morgan and an understanding T'lana.

Morgan, having completed his work on the reactor and finding the crew gone decides that it is time to reopen an old project of his.

Walking to the wreck of his ship, he enters the cargo compartment and opens a cargo bin.

Making a few modifications, he activates Larial.

"Absolutely, where would you like to go?  You have a complete list of everything on board this station and on the fleets vessels.   Might I add, I am very pleased with your progress Larial.  You have excelled far beyond where I thought you would so far in your development."

Morgan makes the final touches on Larial and closes the access port on the side of her head.

"Acknowledged Morgan."

An overlay schematic appeared in the upper left hand corner of her visual display, showing where they were and where to head.
So Larial set off with Morgan following towards the Celtic Corner.

The first alien species she came across to follow her test was a Vulcan.

"Na'Shaya"

Walking on she stated.

"Vulcan male, planet of origin Vulcan in the 40 Eridani System."

Further along was a human female, considering her another species, to what she was she said,

"Hello."

"Human female, planet of origin Earth, sol system."

Turning the corner and to a turbolift, there was a Klingon waiting for the turbolift.

"Hello." Stated Larial.

The Klingon looked at her strangely as she stated,

"Klingon male, planet of origin Qo'nos, Qo'nos system."

Riding the turbolift, the Klingon staying behind waiting for the next one.

On the Habitat level, there were several species to choose from, but logically the first species she came across that would conform to her instructions was a Trill.

"Hello." stated Larial.

Moving towards the Celtic Corner's entrance, she stated;

"Trill female, planet of origin Trill, joined species with a vermiform symbiont via an abdominal pouch."

With that she entered the Celtic Corner and looked around the room. The optical overlay showed her every species' information and their gender.

"Have I succeeded in my task, Morgan?"

Larial disconnected herself from the recharge terminal but noticed that Morgan was fiddling with her insides still and was fascinated by the whole event.

"Morgan, seeing as you created me, does that make you my father? My reference files make allusion to that effect, but they also make reference to a mother, do I have one? Does that make me your daughter? Or am I more like a computer than an individual life form?"

Morgan laughs at Larials declaration, "Of course you are a life form my dear.  I will always be there to help you when you need it, after all, what are families for if not to help?"

Walking over and sitting next to Larial, Morgan takes her hand "So, to continue our discussion, what do you want to do with your life my dear girl?"

T'lana, was used to people saying how beautiful she was, but didn't really take much notice in it, emotional beings take great stock in the perceptual countenance of individuals and so she usually just tried to go with it.

"Thank you Larial." looked to Morgan.

"Am I to assume Larial has just been activated given her current cognitive skills and am I correct in also assuming that she possesses a self-perpetuating Positronic Neural Net?"

Larial opened her eyes and looked out of the crate for the first time in her life.

She climbed out of the crate, dressed in human female civilian clothing and gave Morgan a hug.

"Hello Morgan."

She lost concentration for a while and walked around the cargo hold looking and touching everything she could find, adding object telemetry to her memory engrams.
Larial was still uneasy on her feet, like a newborn taking it's first steps and enjoying every moment of it.

"Alright then, please lead the way there.  I wish to see if your directional systems can interpret the schematics that are built into you correctly.  Also, I have a test for you on the way there.  I want you to talk to 4 different species of people on the way there and tell me about them after you have said hello, do you think that you can do that my dear girl?"

Morgan was already happy with the progress of Larial and was very excited about having her interact with other people with whom she had never meet.

"Go to Star Fleet academy, interesting, but would it not be more expedient to download the information to my Neural Net?"

Larial looked at her creator a little fear on her face, she ran out of the Celtic Corner.
The excess use of power was too much for Larial's Fusion Core, which cooled and shut down.
Larial collapsed onto the deck of the habitat, 50 feet from the Celtic Corner...offline.

Larial turned to Morgan with a definite more adult demeanor.

"I am fine thank you Morgan, my Neural Net went into stand-by mode simply to replicate more pathways to accommodate the extra information."

Larial moved closer to Morgan and held his hand.

"You worry too much father, all systems are currently functioning within normal parameters."

Larial moved off and sat back down on the seat, crossing her legs as she did so.

"Thanks to T'lana, I am more like a grown woman now, albeit a synthetic one, but a woman none the less."

Larial smiled, her recently activated Positronic Neural Net could not calculate why she smiled, but she did.

"I would like to scan the Celtic Corner please."

"SO that was a little faster then I wanted it to be but as long as you get the information that you need I suppose there is nothing to worry about.
Speaking of which, what are you interested in?  Is there something you would like to do.  Science, engineering, medical.  All of them are fields that you could very easily qualify for.  Would you like to see about engineering?"

"I suppose it has to do with your mother, she made me promise that I would let you decide for yourself what you would like to do with your life.  I suppose it keeps echoing in my head.  As for being a starship computer, I suppose it would be very easy to interface you with a ships computer and downloading an interface avatar into the computers mainframe.  Is that what you would like to experiment with my dear girl?"

Larial stopped what she was doing immediately at the orders of her creator.

"Affirmative Morgan."

Larial's sub-processor began running a diagnostic on her Positronic Matrix. Two seconds later the diagnostic was complete, so she articulated the report.

"My Positronic Neural Net, currently has a floating storage capacity of 250 petabytes of information, with a calculation capability of 12 gigabytes a second. Currently all systems are functioning within normal parameters."

Larial new very well her creator didn't ask for a full systems efficiency rating, but it was good to be thorough...wasn't it?

Larial, took in the information and calculated a response for her creator's question.

"Actual Morgan I have two questions; What is my purpose? And will anyone want to know about me?"

Larial's Positronic Net was almost fully acclimatized to her surroundings and her life so-to-speak.

"Indeed...then if she has not chosen yet, or does not know, then I suggest that she is not mature enough as yet to make that decision. It also depends on what you designed her for, for instance I noticed the Computer Interface. Perhaps she can simply stay with you in engineering, learning from you as she goes, then perhaps she may make a decision. You could also simply program her with all the information required for any situation."

T'lana paused to size Larial again...

"There is another possibility perhaps that you have not considered. There is a civilization from a planet called Tarn-Vedra, the populace use Artificial Intelligence Entities that are placed on their vessels, Drifts and any other locale where they are needed. These AIE's have Android Avatars, physical representations of the AI core. Perhaps Larial could become such an entity, but slightly in reverse, she could become the AIE for a starships computer core and the avatar simultaneously."

"Very nice, well done" Morgan says pleased with the progress made.

"Now I need you to do several things for me.   First I need you to access file Morgan engineering 15-A, you should find a basic technical documentation on warp core construction.  Also I need you to access medical file 8-C and tell me the basics of the human nervous system.  Finally, tell me how you feel."

"Celtic Corner; celtic a verb-noun of the Celts, a race of humans that existed from 15,000 bc, till this day. Corner; a topology that exists at right angles to another topology. Apart from that, it has tables, sensors indicate Replicators and consumables. It is some form of energy production facility for biological organisms."

T'lana moved forward to Larial and placed her fingers on Larial's face in the mind-meld position.

"My thoughts to your thought, your mind to my mind."

With that said the mental connection between T'lana's and Larial's brains was established.
T'lana began to teach Larial on how to be female, how to act, how to perceive and how to live and grow.
The mind-meld only took a couple of minutes, but seeming years worth of life experience was taught to Larial, as well as gender based orientation.

T'lana ended the meld when she had taught the android all that was needed.

"It is done, Morgan."
