Messages - Will Karelia

#1
Admiral Karelia - Cockpit, Cardinal Virtue

Will brought the Cardinal Virtue into a tight curve, angling into the Gallifreyan hangar a little closer and a little faster than he probably should have. The ship set safely onto the deck, and Will, leaving the engines hot, dropped the ramp and jogged out into the alien ship.

"What is it?" he asked, a little put off at being summoned like a common crewman. Legudon spoke up first. "We need immediate transport to the surface. The Citadel of Adun is under attack."

Will dropped his contention immediately. "Get in," he said quickly, running back toward the Virtue. With the Gallifreyan councillors following him, he made his way up the ramp, and ducked into the cockpit.

"It's gonna take us about ten minutes to get there," Will said, firing the thorium boosters and propelling the ship out of the hangar like a bat out of hell. "And the Heraan are going to see us coming."

Admiral Will Karelia - Cockpit, Cardinal Virtue

Will ran his hands over the alien control panel, and siphoned power into the slipstream generators. The outer hull of the Virtue began to shine an iridescent blue, and the ship streaked away into slipspace.

Karelia spun his chair around and leaned it back. "Well," he said with a sigh, "here comes the part where we wait. It'll take us about eighteen hours to get to Gallifrey at our current speed. Alone, I could get us there in three, but like Taurik said, we need to hold back with the slower ships of the fleet."

Admiral Karelia - Outskirts of Antioch

Karelia ducked behind the hulk of a Heraani tank while plasma fire streaked over their heads. He then turned to the lieutenant that was trying to speak to him over the commotion. "Lt. Dolan, at your service, Admirals," Dolan said as soon as the Admirals were within hearing range.  "My team will do our best to keep you safe.  I need any information you can provide about the location of the Gallifrey Council memb--" The lieutenant paused a moment. "Nevermind, then.  It seems you're going to have to stick with me for a little while longer.  After we reach the Council members, a Pelican should arrive shortly to pick us up.  We'll be heading back for the marine encampment after that."

Will shouted to be heard over the noise. "Get a Pelican down here ASAP, we're more than ready to get moving," he said, pointing to the councillors only a few dozen meters away. "I know I could sure as hell stand to be out of this mess!"

A plasma bolt struck only a few centimeters from Will's head, and the admiral popped out over the body of the fallen hovertank. He aimed his phaser at one of the attacking soldiers, and fired. The phaser beam struck the Heraan's body shields, and quickly overloaded them, as Karelia had the phaser on setting twelve out of sixteen. The blast seemed to also char the armor of that soldier, but did not severely injure it, and it began running toward them. His phaser's battery had very little charge remaining, and Will had to think fast. He wrenched a piece of plating from the fallen tank, and ducked low to avoid being seen. The Heraan jumped onto and over to their side of the tank, and as soon as it landed, it whirled to see Will slamming the hull shard into it's face as hard as possible. With it's shields down, the alien's unprotected cranium was vulnerable, and the force of the beam crushed it's head quite fatally.

Sighing from the exertion of the swing, Will grabbed the fallen soldier's plasma rifle, and resumed his effort to hold out until the Pelican arrived.

Admiral Karelia - Corridor, Starbase Avalon

Legudon began to stride back toward the turbolift, as Will turned to Julia. "Meet us in the wardroom in ten minutes," he said, mindful of the fact that she was still in her dress. As she retreated into her quarters, Karelia jogged to meet Legudon near the turbolift, and he immediately began his questioning. "What exactly do you mean by 'jeopardy'," he asked.

"My meaning is that my world in about to come under siege," the master replied coldly, "and we have very little time to mount sufficient defense. The attack by the Na'jigat and the Heraan is imminent."

The turbolift opened, and Karelia trailed behind Legudon, stopping to face him once they entered the car. "Wait, the Na'jigat? I thought they were under suppression since the attack on Avalon station last year! How is it that they're ready to attack at all, much less against Gallifrey?"

"This," Legudon said in a very Vulcan-esque manner, "is the source of our concern. We've no idea how they've become so powerful, so fast. If I may, admiral, I'd like to go over this once, and it might be smarter to do in in your conference room, with everyone present?"

Karelia huffed, but remained silent. He absolutely despised being shut up like that, but in the presence of Legudon, he had to admit he felt a bit deflated. After all, what was a Starfleet admiral when compared to an expert warrior, over seven centuries old?

Admiral Karelia - Jungles of Gallifrey

Will was completely out of breath, but managed to force himself to continue running, trying to keep up with the Gallifreyans. It amazed them how they managed to run so far and so steadily, and not one of them had even broken a sweat. He was sure their psionic abilities had something to do with it, but even without them, Will knew the average Gallifreyan was in excellent shape, both quick and strong.

Suddenly, Legudon halted, and the rest came to a stop with them. "Hunting party," was all he whispered. All four warriors faded from view, their power allowing them to bend light itself away from their bodies, rendering them completely invisible.

Will felt like he should be doing something, but he was unarmed, and no match for a Heraan. He ducked down, and held onto Julia as they both tried to stay hidden and out of the way while the Gallifreyans engaged the Heraan.

Fleet Admiral Will Karelia - Admiral Rellek's Quarters, Starbase Avalon

Will and Julia spoke at length after finishing their respective meals, and both of them were having an incredible time. Karelia stared into Julia's eyes as she spoke, lost in both her words and her gaze. After a moment, she stopped speaking, noticing him staring into her eyes.

When she smiled and gave a slight chuckle, he leaned in to her. "I love you," he whispered, and gave her a passionate kiss. And at the one time in his life when thoughts of duty was completely absent from his mind, the doors opened, and breaking their kiss quickly, both of the admirals squinted at the brightness of the intruding light of the corridor, which outlined a tall, black silhouette.

"We must converse," came the statement of the silhouette, the voice of whom sounded much like that of Master Legudon.

Will got to his feet immediately, "You can't just barge in here, Legudon!" he retorted. "This isn't Gallifrey, and some of us humans like our privacy!" Legudon glared. "Your petty mating rituals are unimportant right now, William," he said, somewhat impatiently. "The fate of my world, and yours with it, are in jeopardy."

Karelia's eyes widened. "You've got my attention."

Admiral Karelia - Command Deck, Starbase Avalon

Karelia left the wardroom for a moment to head to Vorak's office. He poked his head inside, just long enough to say "Sir, we need you in the wardroom, ASAP. The Gallifreyans have an emergency briefing for us."

Admiral Will Karelia - Command Deck, Starbase Avalon

Will grasped Julia's hand and held it between both of his. "If you wish to be part of it all, I won't stop you."

"Besides," he said with a smile, "the Virtue could use a good copilot, if she's going to last five seconds out there."

Admiral Karelia - Starfleet Wardroom, Starbase Avalon

"Sounds good. Legudon, Techerakh, we'll see you in an hour. Taurik, get your crew assembled, and get the Thunder up and running."

As the various attendees began to disperse, Will pulled Julia aside. "Where do you plan to be in all of this," he asked quietly with a concerned look on his face.

Admiral Karelia - Wardroom, Starbase Avalon

"Here's my question," Karelia said, speaking up. "What do we do with the Rivendell? She's in no condition to fight, and so send her crew into this onboard that ship would be a death sentence."

Admiral Will Karelia - Crash Site, Antioch Presidium

Will had, within only the past few minutes, developed a terrible migraine. He was not prone to headaches, and considering their proximity to the Citadel and the sounds of combat he had begun to hear from inside, he came to the startling conclusion that the pure psychic power being released within was affecting him. His vulnerable mind was likely unable to effortlessly handle the excess psionic emanations. He pinched the bridge of his nose, trying to squint away the discomfort.

"We should get out of here," he said, fatigued. "Comm traffic says the marines are clearing out the rest of the city." Will offered his good arm to Julia, helping her up from her seat on the floor of the crashed transport. "I'll radio for pickup. Honestly, we're no good down here. It's up to the Gallifreyans now." He pointed to the signs of battle high above, still visible through the dimming evening sky. "I don't know about the rest of you, but I belong up there."

Admiral Karelia - Cockpit, Cardinal Virtue

Karelia swerved the flight sticks of the blockade runner frantically, trying to dodge plasma bolts and torpedoes. Unfortunately, he'd only done a marginal job, and the shields were beginning to weaken, with several fighters still on their tail yet.

Suddenly, a torpedo from one of the larger interceptors slammed into the tail of the Cardinal Virtue, and knocked both thorium engines offline. "Damn!" came Karelia's curse at the loss of the engines. "We're in freefall. I've got almost no control. Hang on everyone, I'm going to try to bring us down, but it won't be pretty!"

The Virtue's pursuers, confident with their kill, veered off, and the small ship fell into the planet's atmosphere. The form of the city of Antioch was becoming visible as the ship penetrated the upper clouds, a mix of black and faint green smoke trailing behind. Will pulled up hard on the sticks, but the ship barely responded, only able to nose up slightly. By the time the ship started coming near the ground, it was sufficiently level, but still traveling far too quickly, and the ship wasn't designed for unpowered atmospheric descent, and had no airbrake of any kind.

"Hold on, everyone!" Will said, gritting his teeth, as the ship started hitting the upper jungle canopy. The trees fell easily before the Virtue's sharp leading edges, but the vessel finally hit the ground, and the entire occupancy was thrown violently to the floor. By the time the ship ground to a halt, it was buried a full twelve feet into the planet, only the upper half and rear of the ship exposed.

Will pulled himself to his knees, and helped Julia do the same. "Are you alright?" he asked, and after getting a weak nod from her, he looked around with sorrow at his ship. Soil and earth was already piling in through the ruined cockpit, and a quick inspection of the ship revealed damage in every room. He thumbed the control to drop the rear ramp, and the hatch thankfully complied. As beautiful as the sun looked and felt on Will's shaken body, it was nothing that helped ease the loss of his vessel.

Admiral Will Karelia - Cockpit, Cardinal Virtue

Will settled into the seat at the fore of the cockpit, and keyed in the sequence to warm the thorium reactors. The subtle hum of systems coming to life could be heard as Julia slid into one of the chairs behind Will.

"Although I prefer the native interface," Will said, "you can switch your panel to LCARS if you like. I've made sure to give this baby all the Starfleet amenities."

Will grasped the flight controls, and the ship lifted from the hangar deck, and nimbly pivoted in the bay to face the forcefield spanning the mouth of it. Karelia ran his hand along the controls to boost the engines to 20%, and the ship banked out of the bay. In the cavernous expanse of the starbase's inner docking structure, the Virtue, while fast, had plenty of room to maneuver. Will took a wide angle toward the space doors, and banked the ship gently and steadily toward the exit.

As soon as the ship was free, he pushed the throttle to 75% to escape the docking pattern, removing himself from the path of other ships trying to enter and exit the station. He dropped the engines to zero, and engaged the retro-thrust system, which would bring the ship to a stop. He turned his chair toward the tactical system, and began scanning the area for all the allied ships in range, effectively taking a head count of all the ships involved.

Admiral Karelia - Pelican Dropship Charlie 0-2-2

Will jumped from the aft ramp of the Pelican, Julia's hand in his. Unfortunately, the fall was several meters, and Will's legs caught a bad footing when he landed, and he landed hard on his arm when he held it out to stop himself. There was a sickening crunch, and the sleeve over his contorted arm began to stain red.

Karelia managed to get himself to his feet and painfully put his arm back in the correct orientation. He seethed with pain, but tried his best not to show it. Ripping off his uniform jacket, he tied the arms together and hooked them over his neck, making a crude sling with the torso of the jacket. He smiled when Julia offered to help him, and assured her he was going to be fine. "I was a medical officer in my glory days, after all," he said.

Admiral Will Karelia - Cockpit, Cardinal Virtue

Will smiled sweetly. "You make it sound like we're not getting through this," he said. He stepped up from his seat and gave Julia a brief kiss. "I'm not going anywhere," he said softly.

A moment passed before he stood straight again. "If you'd like, now's a good chance to get some sleep. Once we reach Gallifrey, we won't have the chance for rest."
