Messages - Larial

Larial opened her eyes and looked out of the crate for the first time in her life.

She climbed out of the crate, dressed in human female civilian clothing and gave Morgan a hug.

"Hello Morgan."

She lost concentration for a while and walked around the cargo hold looking and touching everything she could find, adding object telemetry to her memory engrams.
Larial was still uneasy on her feet, like a newborn taking it's first steps and enjoying every moment of it.

Larial thought a minute on that statement of Morgan's and she couldn't understand it, what does a unique individual do?

Larial disconnected herself from the recharge terminal but noticed that Morgan was fiddling with her insides still and was fascinated by the whole event.

"Morgan, seeing as you created me, does that make you my father? My reference files make allusion to that effect, but they also make reference to a mother, do I have one? Does that make me your daughter? Or am I more like a computer than an individual life form?"

"Acknowledged Morgan."

An overlay schematic appeared in the upper left hand corner of her visual display, showing where they were and where to head.
So Larial set off with Morgan following towards the Celtic Corner.

The first alien species she came across to follow her test was a Vulcan.

"Na'Shaya"

Walking on she stated.

"Vulcan male, planet of origin Vulcan in the 40 Eridani System."

Further along was a human female, considering her another species, to what she was she said,

"Hello."

"Human female, planet of origin Earth, sol system."

Turning the corner and to a turbolift, there was a Klingon waiting for the turbolift.

"Hello." Stated Larial.

The Klingon looked at her strangely as she stated,

"Klingon male, planet of origin Qo'nos, Qo'nos system."

Riding the turbolift, the Klingon staying behind waiting for the next one.

On the Habitat level, there were several species to choose from, but logically the first species she came across that would conform to her instructions was a Trill.

"Hello." stated Larial.

Moving towards the Celtic Corner's entrance, she stated;

"Trill female, planet of origin Trill, joined species with a vermiform symbiont via an abdominal pouch."

With that she entered the Celtic Corner and looked around the room. The optical overlay showed her every species' information and their gender.

"Have I succeeded in my task, Morgan?"

Larial looked down at her body and wondered as her Neural Net assimilated the information taught to her by T'lana.
When Morgan asked her the question of how she was, her Neural Net was pondering every inch of her anatomically correct body.

Looking up as though startled out of a dream, she said.

"Er...I don't know...I guess I am confused, but I am currently functioning...er...I am fine thank for asking Morgan."

Larial moved closely to T'lana and stated,

"Thank you very much T'lana, I...I actually feel something, I feel like a real woman."

Right then Larial's Neural Net shut down to replicate more Positronic Neural Networks and moved her mind up to late twenties worth of experience, in essence she was no longer a child, but a woman.

After about 20 minutes, Larial's Neural Net rebooted and she opened her eyes to a worried Morgan and an understanding T'lana.

Larial looked at her hand in Morgan's, the sensor-mesh registered as all the usual technical data. Body Temp. 36.9 degrees Celsius, pressure 2.5psi, but her Neural Net new better than that so she placed her other hand on top of his making sure the pressure never exceeded 2.5psi.

But as for Morgan's question of what she wanted to do with her life, Larial's Positronic Neural Net was stumped.

"I do not know." She stated matter-of-factly.

<Stealth-Reconnaissance vessel Kelata>

Even though Larial heard Captain Taurik's message, he was not her Captain and seeing as her creator was still on the Rivendell, that is exactly where she kept the Kelata.

By now Larial new everything about the Kelata thanks mostly to it's extensive user manual into it's operation, necessary for a prototype.

"Computer, if we towed the Rivendell, could we go to Quantum Slipstream?"

Computer: Acknowledged, as long domain five slipstream velocity is maintained.

Larial was fascinated by the Kelata, it was a highly advanced vessel, that seemed too advanced even for Vulcans.
But that was for another time, when Larial's creator wasn't in danger, but what to do?

Until she was told otherwise, Larial decided the best course of action would be to cloak the Kelata and wait for further instructions, which is exactly what she did.

The Kelata's sensors registered multiple slipspace ruptures, as several Heraani Capital Ships emerged from quantum slipstream.

All her passengers were asleep, not wanting to wake them up, Larial was ready to engage the Kelata's Slipspace Engine at a moments notice.

"Computer, have we been detected at all?"

Computer: Negative.

Larial relaxed a bit, apparently programmed with the ability to panic, as well as all other humanoid emotions.
"Computer, have the Heraani detected my father Morgan Freeman at all."

Computer: Negative, residual theta radiation is masking the Commander's biosigns.

"Maintain a lock on him at all times, please. At the first sign of being detected, beam him aboard."

Computer: Acknowledged, positive lock established, angular confinement at 32 quanta.

Two minutes later, the computer spoke again.

Computer: Attention, Heraani biometrics detected on the USS Rivendell.

"Damn them! Computer, what weapons does the Kelata have."

Computer: The Kelata is equipped with two Quantum Discharge Canons and two micro-quantum torpedo launchers.
Larial thought she new everything about the Kelata, but the little ship seemed to be full of surprises.

"What are Quantum Discharge Canons?"

Computer: Quantum Discharge Canons emit a cohesive, pulsed neutron-based quantum particle beam, at three million electron volts.

"Is there anyway to communicate with Morgan Freeman? Warn him of the Heraani boarding party."

Computer: I...The Kelata is equipped with a subspace transceiver array and a tachyon-beam transceiver system. The subspace transceiver would be detected, but due to the nature of tachyon particles, it is highly unlikely that a message would be detected. But it is also highly unlikely that Commander Freeman would realize that the tachyon particle beam contained a message. At present the Rivendell's sensors and subspace transceiver array is offline.

"Any suggestions then? Hang on, did you just say 'I'? But caught yourself?"

Computer: Affirmative, I am a Synthetic Biological Artificial Intelligence Computer with true sentience, but to facilitate human passengers I maintain the usual Starfleet computer or Artificial Intelligence personality type. I apologize for the slip up.

"No need to apologize, I am pleased to meet another sentient machine. What is Synthetic Biology though?"

Computer: Synthetic Biology is a scientific discipline incorporating biological organisms created by synthetic means. Organic lifeforms that are carbon-based, are constructed of three main components, they are: Sugar, Nitrates and Phosphates. Synthetic Biology has been used by Vulcans for two thousand years, if not more. On Earth, Synthetic Biology began in earnest in the early twenty first century and evolved to maturity in 2019, World War 3 caused most of this technology to be forgotten. Typically organic machines are called Replicants, named after a popular science fiction film of twentieth century earth, entitled Blade Runner. Synthetic Biology is the next logical step from cloning and genetic engineering, which is illegal in the Federation. Replicant technology is not.

"I never new that, oh well back to the task at hand, but if it is alright with you, I would like to continue our discussion some other time."

Computer: That would be acceptable.

"I am glad and you can drop the act you know."

"Yes father."

Larial was glad to hear her creators voice finally after helping as many of the crew as she could and had already took them down to the Kelata. It was the only ship she knew after all and had activated the Kelata's engines and drive systems.

The Kelata, although the size of a runabout, managed to hold quite a few of the crew. Filling it as much as she could, Larial piloted the Kelata out of the Hangar Bay and kept on station and a transporter lock ready to beam her father out.

With the Heraan and the Borg now gone, Larial decloaked the Kelata and opened a subspace channel to the Rivendell. With her passengers waking up and getting something to eat and drink, it was time to see what was going on and why her creator was left on the stricken Starfleet vessel.

"I find it interesting father." Stated Larial, smiling at Morgan.

Suddenly Larial stumbled and lost cognitive functions for a moment. Her Optical System Display (OSD) gave no warning, therefore Larial's subprocessor did not sense the problem before it occurred.

The moment passed and her Neural Net returned to normal operating procedure.

Larial attempted to run a diagnostic, but for some reason that function was not working, neither at the moment was her OSD.

"Oh I see, I am sorry father."

Larial closed her eyes reconnecting with the Main Computer, she altered the Engineering repair schedule and repaired the corruption to the Computer's Operating System.

Disconnecting, she opened her eyes and looked to her father.

"It is done, I have updated the repair schedule and fixed the corrupted files of the Computer."

Larial had spent along time just standing still and listening to everything that was going on. During that time she became bored several times, so she began running through all her functions. In this, the built in help files were most helpful and by the time Morgan and T'lana left she finally knew everything she was capable of.

Returning her Neural Net to normal cognitive and motor functions, she became distressed that her creator was no longer in her vicinity. Looking around the room, she could not see staying her with them alone, so Larial chased after her creator.

Walking quickly into the Engineering Lab she went up to her creator and asked,

"Hello father, can I be of assistance?"

Larial and the repair crew assigned to conduit maintenance had finally finished their work. With Larial's help, the repairs took half the time, which the engineering team thanked Larial for exuberantly.

Larial gave them a smile and stated "your welcome", then went back to engineering for another assignment.

"We finished the repairs on the damaged conduits father, if you would like to inspect them. Anything else I can help you with?"

Larial seen that her father was busy and therefore didn't want to trouble him with the malfunctions that she was having and trying to fix herself.

Larial was about to walk over to her father and see what he was doing, when she suddenly lost cognitive and motor functions and shut down. Larial was rendered inert and collapsed to the deck of the Bridge.
