"Well, captain, I'll leave you to it. I seem to be a bit of a distraction. Congratulations again."

"I'm glad I kept you alive long enough to fix the warp drive," Karelia said to his chief engineer. "It's a shame it took so long."

"I assure you, sir, it won't happen again," the officer said, gulping slightly.

Karelia grinned a little. "Oh, I am sure of that." He pulled out a Klingon d'ktagh knife, grabbed the engineer's shoulder, and plunged the knife into his bowels. "Oops," he whispered into the engineer's ear. "So sorry, mate. It won't happen again."

Karelia withdrew himself and the knife from the engineer, and pushed the fresh corpse over to the ground. A midshipman rushed to clean up the body, but Karelia stopped him. "Leave it for now. It will make an effective message. Now, since we are finally within visual range of Avalon, get me a weapons lock and a comm channel. Now."

"Get the goddamned warp core online! NOW!"

Karelia screamed toward his engineer, the most incompetent fool he'd ever had the displeasure of working with. "I want us warp capable within the hour! I plan to watch Julian die with my hands around her throat, and if you can't get me there, I swear to you that you'll take her place!"

He turned back to the viewscreen of the I.K.S. Vengeance, the Vor'cha class cruiser he "liberated" from the Alliance shortly before their defeat eight years ago. "Cross me, will you, you bitch? That'll be the last mistake the great "Admiral" Julian ever made."

(OFF: Karelia's obviously commanding one of the hostile ships that the Iroquois passed on their way to Avalon.)

(OFF: Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but Neyo Prime is uninhabited. Check up on your history before you mess with anything that's already been used.)

The Sovereign-class U.S.S. Ticonderoga exploded in a blaze of Borg plasma and red-hot duranium.

The Na'jigat cloud reached DS12. It began feeding power from the five large fusion reactors on the station, and drained power from every system, be it major or auxilliary. The station's lights began to dim, and the station began to list slightly. The force of the power drain destabilized the station's orbit of the planet Envidia II, and the station began to move, affected by Envidia's gravity. Every officer on all the ships watched some viewscreen, as the station plummeted through Envidia II's thin atmosphere, and impacted on the planet's surface. A flash could be seen as the fusion reactors went critical.

"Karelia to the fleet," Will said, barely able to speak the words. "Evacuate the area. Set course to your home bases."

U.S.S. Windsor / MISSION ONE-SHAKEDOWN CRUSE

A large cubical vessel approached Deep Space Twelve at transwarp. All of a sudden, comm channels were alive with activity.

"Lieutenant, set phasers on a rotating frequency..."

"Target the Borg cube and stand by..."

"Rivendell, fall back to support position one..."

"Karelia to the fleet. We have it in visual range, a Borg cube on course zero, mark two-one-five. Speed, warp nine-point--"

And then the chilling, collective voice plays through on all vessels:

"We are the Borg. Lower your shields and surrender your ships. We will add your biological and technological distinctiveness to our own. Your culture will adapt to service us. You will be assimilated. Resistance is futile."

With that, the comm channel fell a deadly silent. One voice then pierced the silence with a single word:

"Fire."

"Karelia to the fleet. Keep your weapons on a rotating frequency. Target the weapon and tractor emitters first. And good luck."

U.S.S. Windsor / MISSION ONE-SHAKEDOWN CRUSE

The Righteous rocked violently as it took a beating from the Na'jigat. An explosion flared from the ceiling, and gas began to leak. A bolt akin to lightning lanced from the cloud and struck the Defiant-class ship. A few escape pods left the ship, but very few survived. Another lightning bolt lanced from the energy cloud, and blasted the Righteous right in the belly. The ship split into several large portions, and the warp nacelles hung only by a few plates of duranium. The Na'jigat cracked the ship open like a coconut, and drained it's energy just as easily. Once the ship had been drained, they absorbed the final explosion as the warp core lost containment.
